My wife and I, both of us in our late sixties stayed here for two nights and it was such a great experience. Our reason for travelling down from Leicester to the south coast was to visit the Tank Museum in Bovington, so we really could have stayed anywhere from Poole to Weymouth. I began looking on Booking.com using the map to search for properties along the coast and inland that had parking and with breakfast included. Unluckily for me I began at Poole and searched across from east to west, so Weymouth was the last place I looked. It took quite a while as there are a lot of properties that fitted my criteria, and I looked at each and every one of them as I worked my way across. As soon as I clicked on The George on the map and it opened the page up in my browser I knew that I had found our place to stay. Everything about it looked to fit in with what we wanted – the reviews were good, the price was a pittance for what they were offering (£171 for the two night stay, with breakfast included) and all of the photos gave me a warm, happy feeling that we were going to enjoy our stay here. I spent no more time looking and booked it.

When we arrived we loved the layout of the car park as there was plenty of space and a good amount of room between cars, so less chance of getting our car damaged. We used the car constantly over the three days that we stayed in the B&B and always managed to get a space to park on our return. The fact that they have parking onsite was quite a major factor in booking this place, as most B&Bs in the town do not have parking onsite, so you have to pay between £10-£15 to park on street or in a car park, that is if you can find a space.

We were met by Mike as soon as we walked through the door, who is one of the friendliest hosts we have ever encountered in any of the many guest houses we have stayed in over the countless years we have been travelling. He was so likeable and nothing ever seemed too much trouble for him. He definitely has found his vocation in life.

Anyway, we were soon in our room (room 5), and we just knew that we were going to like it, which we did. Now, it wasn’t the biggest room we’ve ever had in a B&B, but it was so well thought out and laid out that we knew it was going to be a great place to call home for the next few days, which it was. The room was immaculate and tastefully decorated – Mike told us that Karis was the brains behind the interior design, so well done to her (we never actually met Karis whilst we stayed there, which was a real pity as we would have liked to have passed the time of day with the woman behind the man :) ). The room also had everything we required for our stay (comfortable bed, good quality bedding, kettle with plenty of brew kit, hair dryer, flat screen TV, plenty of storage space and hangers).

The en-suite was small, but again perfectly useable. We had good quality towels and plenty of toiletries supplied. The shower was also very good – powerful with plenty of hot water.

Breakfast was truly great, which I believe was cooked by Mike. Now I kidded Mike when I got there that as a Scotsman I liked porridge in the morning. Without batting an eyelid he told me that I could have it if I wanted – this just shows how amenable Mike is and as I’ve said, a great host. In the end the cooked breakfast was so good that I decided to have that on both mornings. There was plenty of other food items to choose from for breakfast, so a great meal to start the day.

There were a few things that I have to comment on about the room that Mike and Karis might consider doing to enhance the experience. Now none of these particularly bothered us, so I’m still going to give the place an excellent rating overall, but just some points that they might consider that myself and my wife discussed. These are;

• The quilt was slightly too small for the bed, which resulted in our feet sticking out the bottom (we put the blanket that was in the wardrobe over the bottom of the bed, so all was good, but the quilt really could do with being replaced with a King sized).
• The headboard bangs of the wall at the slightest movement in the bed (we put a towel between the wall and the headboard which made it better, but the headboard needs to be looked at to stop it doing this).
• The shower tray is quite slippy, so needs a rubber mat to prevent accidents.
• Whoever cleans the en-suite needs to look up at the fan, and just give it a bit of a vacuum.

We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely book this B&B again. I would also highly recommend it to anyone that wants a lovely place to stay, with plenty of parking, a great breakfast and perfect hosts.

Our recent stay at this establishment provided a mixed experience. On the positive side, the room was impeccably clean, and the staff was friendly and accommodating, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere.

However, a couple of factors impacted our stay negatively. First, there was a constant buzzing noise, possibly from the bathroom fan, which proved a bit distracting. Additionally, the location on the main road meant there was occasional disturbance from loud cars passing by.

Furthermore, we found the breakfast to be underwhelming initially. Served cold with single items on the plate, it lacked the variety we anticipated. However, it’s worth noting that on the second day of our stay, the breakfast was a pleasant surprise as it was served nice and hot.

In addition, the friendly staff made a very positive impact on my overall stay.

Lastly, it’s worth mentioning that the central heating was switched off, impacting the room’s comfort level.

In conclusion, while the stay had positive elements, addressing the noise issue, improving breakfast options consistently, and ensuring climate control would contribute to a more satisfying guest experience. The warmth and friendliness of the staff, however, added a significant positive note to my overall stay.

Just returned from a 2 day break. What a great little find the B&B is in walking distance to the town and attractions Mike and his wife are so knowledgeable about the area lots of hints and tips of places to visit and places to eat. The breakfast was superb, quality ingredients and plenty of choice fresh fruit and cereals. The bed was very comfy and the room nicely decorated loved my chocolate. Can’t wait to visit again.

The George is a lovely B&B in Weymouth with helpful, friendly staff and a great breakfast, cooked to order with fresh pastries too. The rooms were spotlessly clean. The B&B is an easy walk to the beach and restaurants or a quick bus ride if the feet aren’t willing. The driveway is easy to miss.

We stayed a couple of nights with our 2 dogs in the Sunflower room ( Room 1 ). The room was perfect as we had a little enclosed yard in which to safely let the dogs out.
Room was large with a en-suite, and very clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was delicious, with a great choice of cereals, juices and cooked.
Five minute walk from the beach.
We will definitely book here again.
Highly recommend.

I spend a weekend here each year with a group of friends and have always been well looked after. I'd been a little concerned about the impact of the recent change of ownership, but needn't have worried.
We received a warm welcome by the friendly and efficient new team. The whole place was clean and tidy, and one minor niggle was very rapidly dealt with.
The cooked breakfast was good, generous and rapidly delivered following our orders, while other options were also available.
Another very enjoyable weekend, and I'll definitely return next year.

Have just spent 4 nights at this truly excellent guest house. Plenty parking made a good first impression along with a warm welcome from the owner. Our room was spotlessly clean with a spacious en suite. Tea and coffee facilities in the room were welcomed. There have been many comments about the high quality of the breakfast and these comments are spot on. The owner was previously a chef and this shows...a superbly cooked English breakfast served by the friendly staff. The George is 20 mins or so walk from the town centre so well located. Book this guest house...as Guest Houses go this is one of the best.
