This was a nice convenient on route stop from London to stoke on Trent .
Lovely quiet little place out in the country side .
Room was a bit small but tidy enough.
A good menu reasonable price for this type of place
Had a vegan burger was a bit dry but overall enjoyable . Good pint of ale ..
Unfortunately for me on this occasion some off the staff let it down .
When I first checked in Tom took a phone call mid checkin left me stood there which I thought was a little bad mannered as there was other staff available .
I think they may have been training so the call should have been left . But overall he was the best member of staff .
I went down for a drink an evening meal ,whilst waiting I started chatting to one of the waitresses who then had a conversation mid my conversation With someone else . I asked if I could take my food to the room of which Tom said yes but then was abruptly told no by a young man called Sam .
I have been working and staying away in hotels across the country right through the pandemic and meals in the room have never been an issue at any hotel .
I had to bargain with him and in the end he let me on the condition I brought the plate back iam 47 not 15 .
I understand rules are rules and he’s just doing his job but sometimes in hospitality you need to think outside the box and work with not against the customer

Just had the most amazing Sunday lunch prepared as a takeaway from Slaters.
Meal for 4 ... whole roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots, cabbage, cauliflower, yorkshire’s, stuffing, pigs in blankets and gravy ... all for £35 (and there’s enough for 6!)👍
They’re doing choice of lunch on Sundays and meals Thurs, Fri and Saturday evenings, highly recommended.

We stayed here just for one night as we had to attend a funeral. They were very accommodating about an early check-in so we could get changed. The room was spacious, quiet (overlooking the garden) with comfortable beds, and very well equipped ( tea/coffee, biscuits, nice bath/ shower products etc). Dinner ( in the pub), and breakfast were also great with friendly prompt service and a menu with something for everyone. Good value too.

I organised a celebration for my daughter’s birthday at Slaters having understood it to be excellent. The whole family were very disappointed with the quality of the food (tasteless, not a lot of choice on the main menu and only one choice on the specials board). Disorganised service all the time we were there to a point where nobody ordered a dessert just so we could leave. I had arranged for cake to be brought out after our meal…this was done in a hurry when half of our party were not seated….totally spoilt the occasion. Will definitely not be returning

Stayed one night, business trip. Food was fine, standard pub fare and good breakfast.
The room was disappointing. Clearly hadn't been redecorated for decades, awful red patterned swag curtains, yellow walls, cheap-looking 'fake' antique furniture. Not very clean either, spiders, cobwebs. The bathroom looked straight onto the carpark with a huge window that wasn't frosted, so you had to lower the blind and have the light on, to get privacy. The shower had a useless, rickety folding screen, and you couldn't avoid drenching the bathroom floor and door.

Very pleasant and comfortable country hotel about 4 miles from Keele University (much easier than trying to stay in Newcastle itself). Ground floor accessible rooms for people with restricted mobility (I use a wheelchair).)

Extremely helpful and welcoming staff.

Popular restaurant on site can be busy, worth booking table ahead. Reassuring to see a hotel so proactive with anti COVID-19 measures, eg temperature checks on arrival.

Marked down for disappointing breakfast. No fruit, yoghurt or fresh juice. Otherwise perfect.

Slater's hosted our Burns Night Dinner. We were only a small group of 10 but they really took a lot of trouble for us. The food was excellent and the thoughtful touch of making a commemorative menu with a portrait of Burns on the front shows how professional the team is.Thank you

We had Our Golden Wedding anniversary reception here after renewing our vows. It seemed the perfect venue for our very special celebration, but it was a disaster.
Our wedding coordinator was changed on the day. She was hopeless, inexperienced and missing for most of the time. Our expensive drinks package was not provided and guests were served with cheap Shloe r fruit juice. Our of 26 guests who chose lamb, 17 found it inedible and 4 others found it tough and tasteless. The puddings were very poor. Some staff were rude to my guests.

I was able to get a partial refund on the drinks package but when I contacted Slaters about the poor food, they did not have the courtesy to reply to my email. Disgusting!

Room 6 has a faulty floor in the bathroom leading to broken lino with gaps and a very uneven surface. On checking out it was obvious the receptionist knew all about this and had done so for a while. Unbelievable that we were allocated the room, no apology or refund. External double glazing panel also had a long crack.
Restaurant service and food were great - fabulous steak and kidney pie.

Very disappointed in the service
Had to keep asking staff to remove plates from table, also for drinks, shouldn’t need to keep asking for service. Staff too busy chatting at the bar, forgetting about customers.
Want exactly busy.
I ordered a Fillet steak, asked for medium, pink no blood
When it arrived it was medium/ well done. I told the staff who swiftly removed it. A minute or two later it was bought back and I was told this was what I ordered.
He explained the chef is unable to cook a steak Pink no blood !!
It was not impossible
I explained that I’ve had many steaks that are pink and juicy in my life
He said sorry the Chef said can’t do it.
I sat and watched my family eat
Everyone else in the party where happy with their food
