Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing bed and breakfast experience. Warm, comfortable and clean with a charming homely vibe. Nick is very welcoming and helpful. The cooked breakfast in the morning is excellent and it was so nice to come back to complimentary home cooked shortbread and cakes each day. So many 5* reviews for a reason. Highly recommend staying.

This two night trip was exceptional. I cannot fault Fairfield House or the host Nick. We visited whilst we went to a wedding about ten minutes away. The room itself was lovely, bathroom well equipped and felt luxurious. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we slept very well both nights. The water, fresh milk and homemade cakes and biscuits were the cherry on top of what was already a perfect stay. The house and garden themselves are beautiful. We had to leave early on one of the mornings so Nick made us bacon sandwiches to go. When were able to have a sit down breakfast the next day it was delicious and homely. I would recommend this place to anyone and cannot wait to visit again.

Honestly one of the best stays we have had in the country, if not the best! We are no strangers to the Lake District, particularly Bowness-on-Windermere. We usually do a day trip rather than stay over, but we’ve had a lot going on recently, and as it was my Fiancé’s birthday, decided to book a last minute stay as a bit of an escape from our busy lives! THE BOOKING PROCESS: I come across Fairfield House on booking.com, and after reading the description, looking at the photographs and scrolling through the reviews on TripAdvisor, I was sold! With independent businesses like this, I always search to see if they have their own booking platform, to hopefully avoid them paying out fees to the likes of Booking.com (this is purely a presumption, but I feel better booking direct if I can). When booking, there was an option to type a message. I requested whether it would be possible to put a birthday banner/ some balloons in the room as a little extra surprise for my partner. I know this isn’t always a possibility, but I thought I’d ask anyway! LOCATION: The location of the place was perfect for us and came with free parking, which in a place so close to everything, is extremely rare (unless you stay at one of the large hotels). CHECK IN: Check in was advised from 3pm. We arrived at around 3.50pm, I headed inside to check in, whilst my partner parked the car. I was greeted by Nick, who runs Fairfield House. Once I’d given my name, he recognised it and said he had sorted the banners and balloons for me, for which I was extremely grateful. Nick took the time to chat to us. The weather was extremely wet when we arrived, and he asked if we had any plans for the evening. We didn’t, and Nick mentioned that there were still tickets available for a show on at the Old Laundry Theatre called Yippee Ki Yay (a retelling of classic film Die Hard). The show had won awards at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and just happened to be on the one night we were there. Given my partner is a huge Die Hard fan, we booked tickets straight away! Nick showed us both up to the room, directing us to where breakfast would be the following morning, and the timings for this. My partner was delighted when the door opened and there were birthday banners, balloons and even a little cake with a candle waiting for him! This honestly made his day. THE ROOM: Given our last minute booking, there was only one room left, room 2. The room is described as a small room, which I suppose for a B&B/ guest house, it was. However, it had everything we needed and was actually really cozy! The room was immaculate and the bathroom was bright and also immaculately clean. In the bathroom, the usual shampoo, conditioner and shower gel and shower caps were provided, along with clean towels. There were makeup remover cloths, which I’ve never seen provided before, which I thought was a really cute touch. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was decorated lovely and modern with tasteful furniture. OTHER FACILITIES: The room was equipped with tea and coffee making facilities (and beautiful homemade shortbread, some of the nicest we have tasted)! On the landing outside of our room, there was a little station set up, with a mini fridge. The fridge contained cold individual bottles of water and the cutest little glass milk bottles. On top of the station, was the most beautiful cake stand which had fresh homemade cakes on offer. All of this was there for guests to help themselves to. These little touches really did make all the difference! BREAKFAST We headed down for breakfast about 8.30ish. The room was bright and spacious and had beautiful views of the gardens (even in the torrential rain, they were stunning). Nick greeted us and offered tea/ coffee. There was a beautiful unit displaying a multitude of different cereals, fruits, pastries, yoghurts, fresh juice, etc. this was displayed beautifully, and seemed to cater for all (gluten free options etc). There was a little toast station filled with lovely fresh white and granary bread and the menus on the table provided the options for hot food. Naturally, my partner ordered a full English. I’m not a huge eater of a morning, so I just had some toast. However, after seeing my partners breakfast, and hearing him rave about it all morning, I am certain I missed out!! CHECK OUT After breakfast, we headed back to the room to collect our bags. I knew Nick was busy as it was peak breakfast time, so we packed up the car before coming back to check out. CONCLUSION: Nick was nothing short of wonderful our whole stay. He is extremely knowledgeable about the area and is more than happy to share local recommendations (which resulted in us seeing one of the best shows we’ve watched, we highly recommend Yippee Ki Yay if you are lucky enough to be near a showing of it). Fairfield House is absolutely stunning. In the perfect location, with the added bonus of private parking (included in the booking). We were only there for such a short time, but the place, and Nick really did have a huge impact on us, and we will 100% stay again in the future. We wish Nick the very best and will hopefully see him again next time we visit. Thanks so much

We have just returned today from a beautiful stay at this B&B. The host much was lovely and the place was kept immaculate. The little touches of cake, fresh milk, bottled water and shortbread biscuits were a real treat. So easy to walk into town and had everything right where you needed it. We stumbled across this one place by chance but we are already looking at booking it for next year. 10/10 and would 100% recommend to anyone.
