friendly welcome from Joan & Simon who both waiting for us with big umbrellas which was an excellent touch and very much needed as it was pouring down greeted us and welcomed Us helping with bags shown us into the warm
Welcoming may cottage. Simon shown us up to our double spacious room whilst Joan but the kettle on and made us a nice drink each. Although kettle and tea/coffee available in the the room we thought it was really nice of them
To offer. As it was my birthday I thought it was such a nice touch that the room was decorated and the gift of chocolate went down well with the nice cup of tea Joan & Simon helped with everything we needed to know about the local area and the personal touch doesn’t go unnoticed at all we thank you for this it really added to our stay. the rooms were clean spacious and the bathroom well stocked with toiletries the bath was especially nice and warm after a couple of long walks in the day. Breakfast was very nice I had a full English each day but with plenty of options fresh fruit cereal juice tea/coffee we didn’t go hungry
The cottage was in a perfect area not far at all
From the bars and restaurants and the lake itself. No more then a 5 minute walk. Only downside was the weather but that will on spur us on to return in the summer 5***** thanks Joan and Simon.. Mark and Lucy. Wrexham

Returned from a 2 night stay at the May Cottage over the 8-9 August. What a lovely place, a traditional style B & B with good facilities, spotlessly clean , comfortable bed and in a great location for Bowness. Simon and Joan are very friendly hosts and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast was cooked fresh both days on a pre order and was delicious. Will definitely stay again.

All we could want from a good quality bed and breakfast for our 4 night stay, 5 mins walk to the lake and 2 to town, with plenty of restaurants, cafes and pubs. (We booked our evening meals out in advance, due to covid, good job we did as people were turned away as many places were fully booked.) Joan and Simon were friendly, very welcoming hosts, with a good knowledge of the area, offering suggestions of places to visit, to make the most of our time. Spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, good sized room with black out blinds and king size bed with crisp white bedding and quality mattress for an extremely comfortable, peaceful night's sleep. Lovely to have the armchairs in the room too. Large, modern en suite, with crisp white towels and quality shampoo, shower gel and hand sanitiser. Hair dryer and fan were in the room, with iron and board available at request. Greek yoghurt with raspberry and blueberry compot was delicious for breakfast as was the cooked breakfast options perfectly prepared and so tasty, with generous portions, setting you up for the day. Nothing was too much trouble, with Joan and Simon checking we were happy with everything, which we were. We would highly recommend this pretty perfect place with parking, a great base to explore the spectacular lakes. So glad we chose May Cottage.

The first thing to say, which is so very important, is the host photographs are accurate!!! I get so fed up with arriving at places to find the camera angle doesn't tell the whole story!

May Cottage is a great B&B perhaps 4-5 minutes walk from Bowness centre, quiet and peaceful but with easy access to pubs, shops and restaurants. My room, No.2, had a king size bed but with enough space to move around easily and have a couple of casual chairs to relax in. A very comfortable bed which could split to make two singles and excellent pillows - another important point as I hate sleeping on an overstuffed brick. The shower room is a good size and has an excellent, powerful shower.

Breakfast is very well prepared and cooked which just rounds off the stay nicely. Many thanks to Simon and Joan for a very welcoming stay.

Myself and a friend stayed at May Cottage for 4 nights to explore the Lake District. The property is in the perfect location - 5 minutes walk into Bowness and the Lake, where there are loads of pubs, restaurants, bars and shops nearby.
Simon and Joan were excellent hosts - they were welcoming, charming and attentive and made us feel so at home. Simon’s recommendations of where to go each day for walks or activities were perfectly suited to what we wanted to do, and he and Joan could not have done any more for us during our stay.
The room was lovely and comfortable and we slept so well after long days walking! The little touches of tea/coffee making facilities, toiletries in the bathroom and maps/information for us to access was great. The method of ordering breakfast the night before worked perfectly and we both agreed that the cooked breakfast was the best we have ever had!
We will definitely be back to visit May Cottage again and explore more of the Lake District, thanks to our perfect hosts who made our experience so enjoyable!

Just love this B&B and the first class service you receive from Joan and SImon. The rooms are first class, with added touches such as a wide plentiful selection of tea and coffee, flannels and cotton wool for removing make up and one of the comfiest hotel beds I know of.
You can park on site and walk into Bowness in minutes and we highly recommend using the boat and bus passes to take you eveywhere - see the lakes in a whole new light
Breakfast is exceptional, plentiful and great care is taken over it
Spa access at the Lakes hotel is an added and very welcomed bonus after a day out in the lakes
Joan and Simon are exceptional hosts and we will be back again as soon as we can.

Lovely accommodation with beautiful and comfortable rooms. The super king-size bed was a treat. The bathroom was absolutely perfect. The breakfast was superb, with excellent service and amenities.
Joan and Simon were delightful and very helpful and welcoming. Full of useful guides and help and knowledge of the area and options.
The B&B is situated within easy walking distance of the centre of Bowness, so one is able to visit the sailings on Windermere, the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and pubs/restaurants without having to worry about parking in the town. Just leave your car at May Cottage and wander around to your heart's content.
Would definitely visit this B&B again and plan to do so when the weather is better. We were unlucky enough to arrive during a monsoon and some roads were blocked with floods and others were just about passable, but we still saw some spectacular sights of raging rivers (which would have been babbling brooks in drier weather). A summer visit is the plan for our next visit.

Great location with parking space, didn’t need the car after we arrived as everything we needed was within walking distance. Spacious room, large comfortable bed and a superb bathroom, all spotlessly clean. All the little extras provided in the room were very thoughtful and made us feel extra welcome. Joan and Simon were friendly and helpful hosts with great recommendations for places to visit and eat. Couldn’t fault breakfast and we had something different from the menu every morning. Everything we wanted for our stay. Would definitely book again.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at May Cottage, guests of the lovely Joan and Simon. The breakfast was delicious, the room was nicely decorated although a little on the small side but tbat is partly due to the bed being nice and large and very comfortable. The bathrooms are newly refurbished and everything is immaculately clean and beautifully finished. They clearly take great pride in giving the best they can to their guests and they're both also lovely, warm people who deserve to do very well in this business. We would not hesitate to recommend this guest house and would happily stay here for another three nights next time we're in the Lake District.
