Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were at a celebration party and had hired the Windermere Suite. Half way through the Afternoon they advised us that they could no longer provide any snacks like Chips or sandwiches, how can a large hotel like the Belsfield run out of chips and sandwiches. It seemed the overnight guests were more important than a large group of locals.

Staff were excellent - friendly and attentive. Food in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast was very good quality. Views from the gardens overlooking Lake Windermere are unbeatable. I would recommend booking directly with the Hotel for accuracy.

Got a really good deal cozy room £220 for two nights with breakfast .Carpark view but for the price you can not grumble. We stayed for breakfast which was lovely and plentiful. If you place your card on the door to do not disturb and do not have your room cleaned it entitles you to a free drink which is a great idea. Down side is you have to pay extra for your car on the hotel car park which can be an extra £15.00 for 24hrs. The room I booked on line did not look the same, which I only checked the paperwork when I returned home. Also need to dust behind the dressing table, Overall would return but go for a room with a lake view

We stayed at The Belsfield for one night in February 2024 as a belated Valentines treat. We arrived early so we could park up and take a hike. We returned 20 minutes before advertised check-in time of 15:00 a bit wet and muddy so chanced for an early check-in so we could change but were told the room was not ready but could change in the lobby toilets. When we did check-in later, we found the room to be comfortable (mattresses were definitely on the oversoft side but we didn't mind that) but the bathroom was very cramped (my knees touched the wall whilst on toilet...sorry for TMI) and dated (paint coming off the wall) and the shower tray would fill up when showering. Breakfast was a mixed experience - the views of Lake Windermere are incredible. My request for a cappuccino was a hard no which was surprising given most hotels have machines for Lattes/Cappuccinos now. Fruit from buffet did not look like it had been freshly cut but the cooked English breakfast, while a little small portion size wise, was very very tasty. All in all a good stay but will probably try another hotel for our next visit.

We had a lovely stay with a good sized room with a lake view. The bathroom was lovely with a shower and roll top bath. Breakfast was good although the staff need to be more organised at busy periods as the buffet was empty for long periods of time.

A very disappointing stay for the price. Positives: Great location. A fabulous setting with views of the lake. Excellent parking. Great reception. Rooms are very average (31). Great shower however bathroom ceiling had paint hanging off, grouting missing from floor tiles and damaged bath panel. We met our friends for a drink in a room adjacent to the bar. We had a few drinks and went into town for a meal and a few more drinks. We returned and went for a night cap to the same room. Unfortunately, all the glasses and crisp packets which we left 3 hours previous were still on the table. BREAKFAST was very average for the standard of the hotel. Poor choice of cereals (I would have like muesli or granola). Poor selection of fruit. I would have liked a selection of yogurts also. Full English and eggs Benedict were average for the standard of hotel. Our friends came for breakfast later: ordered there food and waited 30 minutes but their cooked selection failed to arrive. Breakfast staff were unorganised and need training. Not value for money. I have stayed in dozens of hotels in the Lake District and ALL are far better quality and value.

Booked afternoon tea for my wife’s birthday 4 weeks in advance. Arranged to have 1 savoury and 1 plant based afternoon tea so we could try both. This was noted and written in their book. Also asked for staff to acknowledge my wife’s birthday, all agreed. On arrival they had no clue who we were, we were handed menus (although they supposedly already knew what we were having), and during the whole time I waited for at least someone to wish my wife happy birthday - needless to say nobody did. Whilst there we became snowed in and were unable to move the car so asked if we could stay. We were eventually given a room at a cost of £299, very expensive for a mediocre room at best. Breakfast was nothing special with small portions. The only good thing was that the Hotel Manager was a lovely guy who came and dug our car out of the snow so that we could go home. In all, disappointing, expensive, wouldn’t rush back there again unfortunately.

Stayed for two nights on the midweek break, we couldn't fault the staff all very helpful and friendly. We upgraded to a lake view room which was lovely very spacious with big shower and roll top bath. The hotel is a little bit tired in places but very clean and tidy, the evening meal very nice and plenty choice for breakfast full continental as well as hot food to choose from. The bonus is free parking if you book direct with hotel. Would definitely go back again.

Real review : We booked two nights and three rooms for five adults for my father-in-law‘s 80th surprise weekend birthday. Considering amount of money we spent we were given all three rooms what are called cosy rooms, extremely small. Views overlooking car park, back of another building and onto air-conditioning. I would highly recommend people view room before checking in and in addition, you also have to pay £15 for 24 hours to park in hotel carpark. Hotel rooms outdated with mould in ceiling and in bathroom shower in all three rooms. Left with a bitter taste in our mouth and discussed compensation were given £50 to use in restaurant, completely inappropriate considering the amount of money we paid for off-peak stay. Extremely small for breakfast although given choice of continental breakfast. Would highly recommend old oak pub to eat three minutes walk away from hotel.
