We were in room 5 on the top floor.
Room had iron, ironing board, tea/coffee facilities, tv, en-suite shower, wardrobe and plenty of draw space. Bonus was a hairdryer in the draw.
Bed comfy, room temperature was good, enough space for 2 people
Breakfast was a buffet choice of cereal, fruit and juices plus a full breakfast which was cooked to your liking, which was brought to your table.
Added bonus was the parking.
2 minutes Walking distance to the nearest pubs and restaurants
10 mins walk to marina for any boat trips.
The house is lovely, great location, on site parking, clean, quiet, decent cooked breakfast.
During our two night stay the temperature was below freezing for the entire duration and the room did not have available heat apart from during certain times of the day and even then the room information book was wrong. Heating should have come on at 6.30 a.m. but didn't come on till 8.30 a.m. and then took a good half hour to get anything like hot, by this time we were leaving our room as we had been told our breakfast was at 9 a.m. Neither of us have ever stayed in a B & B, Hotel, Guest house where heating wasn't available at the touch of a switch. We stayed in bed as long as we dared before quickly getting up and dressed for breakfast as the room was extremely cold due to a heavy frost on both nights.
The advertised homemade granola was never available at breakfast nor could we find the extra milk which, according to the book was available to help ourselves to in the dining room if we ran out of milk in our room, which we did as we only had six of those tiny little thimbles of milk in our room fridge.
The plug in the bathroom wasn't water tight and so we had to wash quickly as the water was going down the drain whilst washing and there was no need to take the plug out on completion as it had already all gone! Air freshener in the bathroom didn't work. One tiny bottle (25ml) of shampoo and the same for body wash in the bathroom which weren't replaced on use, bin not emptied, bed not made. I know these things were omitted during Covid but we have stayed in several hotels recently and everything elsewhere seems back to normal, with normal daily room service.
The family run establishment is kept to a very high standard. Many old features of the house have been maintained to preserve its character, yet the modern touches blend perfectly.
We had the king room which was spacious, clean and comfortable. Usual amenities of private bathroom with toiletries, tea/coffee, hairdryer were supplemented with iron and ironing board, small fridge and wine glasses.
Breakfast was pre-order and at a set time for each room. This might not suit everyone but I’m sure the hosts would have accommodated any reasonable request. It suited us just fine on this occasion. The dining room is well organised with room numbers as your table guide. There’s a good choice of fruit and cereal to self select and the cooked choices were well presented, served hot on hot plates (always a plus in my books!) by the hosts. Individual choices were perfectly presented.
It is easy to see why this lovely place has a top rating by its visitors. Thank you Hai and Lan, we would definitely visit again.
Dene House is very clean ,lovely staff Very friendly. Food was excellent .
A bonus of having a wine cooler/fridge in the room which was spacious ,quality furniture and bed was super comfy . Also an iron and ironing board and a fan in our room . It was nice that there was also somewhere to sit and relax in the room With 2 comfy chairs for us to use Instead of having to sit on the bed.Couldn’t ask for anymore .
Nothing was too much trouble .
Hand sanitiser before you enter property and on each floor level
Temperature was taken on arrival in these unprecedented times which was to ensure quests safety well done for been Covid aware Dining room set out for guests safety .
There was also an iron and ironing board and a fan in our room
Thank you for a lovely comfortable stay
Will definitely be back.
We stayed here at this fabulous place 4 years ago.
Wonderful hosts they will go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable.
The room again was spotlessly clean, comfy bed and quiet location away from the hustle and bustle.
Fridge in room to chill wine/beers which was great when we got back late afternoon after a long day going places.
Short walk to centre.
Yorkshire Dales not far away to visit beautiful countryside.
The Riva Cafe Italian is fabulous food.
The Ship Inn for a light lunch or meal, also boaters for a drink and great live music on the weekends.
So much to see and do.
We will be back soon Hai & Lan again for sure.
Thank you both so much, once again for a fabulous stay.
Lou & John 🙂
