Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited end of Oct for my Birthday. Booked the four poster bedroom, bed was so creaky spent the nights wondering if the top canape was going to fall on our heads and that eas without any action! Room was clean but lacked any luxury touches. Shower head sprayed everywhere apart from in the shower and the toilet didn't flush properly. Woodlands attached to the hotel next door which was a bit weird. Breakfast was disappointing: overcooked eggs and undercooked bacon and sausages on both mornings. Not the best ingredients. Plus points: Staff were very professional and responsive. Hotel is in a good location half way between Windermere and Bowness. Unfortunately we wouldn't stay again as it didn't meet expectations in terms of getting the basics right.

Woodlands was a convenient location in easy reach of all the amenities. Our room was clean and well organised. Comfortable bed, TV, nice quality towels and loo roll! Breakfast service was exceptional, probably the best I have ever had. Staff were very helpful, attentive and overall we had a very pleasant stay. Some people might describe the rooms as dated. For me this was a guesthouse traditional in style and I found it very relaxing. Thank you.

Stayed for 2 nights as part of an autumnal couple of nights away. Nice room, with a large comfy bed, great service & a fantastic breakfast. Also in a decent location, a short walk into Windermere, whilst in a central position for travelling round the lakes.

Well situated almost between Windermere and Bowness. The room served a purpose but as others say it's a little tied and dated. We were worried about being kept awake by road noise but the traffic calmed down later and it didn't bother us. Some sockets on the wall opposite the bed would have been good for using the iron and the fan. Glasses taken up to our room of an evening were still there at the end of our trip! Bathroom was very small though served it's purpose, shower head fell off when trying to wash my hair with it. All the staff were very pleasant, whenever we pressed the bell at reception or bar someone turned up straight away. we had to leave early the day we went home, a man let us out and said the kitchen could make us bacon sandwiches to take away, we said no to that but he went and got a couple of bananas and croissants.

Really enjoyed our short stay on our way back to Wales from Scotland. We booked a suite (Room 17) Spacious, very Clean with a Comfy Bed. Plenty of towels, toiletries, refreshments including biscuits. A nice touch were the chocolates on the bed. Thank you. Breakfast was excellent, with a good choice, served by Liam who was very efficient & friendly. The dining room was pristine & elegant. Bonus we had a private patio & parking space.

The building and furniture was a little sad and tired. The staff and food was fantastic! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the breakfast was very good, served hot and quickly. There is a very good choice of breakfasts, hot, cold or a combination of both. Parking off road. The room and hotel was clean and comfortable. Our next visit to Windemere, we will definitely be staying at The Woodlands.

Not suitable for individuals with mobility issues due to location, no lift (3 floors) no ramps. Guest house 25 mins walk away from the centre of Bowness, uphill, but walkable if your fit! Room 15 on the top floor nice, but very old and tired. Bathroom was very small and cramped. Its a very warm room also, but we had the option to use a fan which was in the wardrobe. Hairdryer and towels in the room. Staff very attentive, room cleaned after the first night. breakfast menu very good (smoked salmon, eggs as you like them and full English, cereals toast, jams, tea coffee etc.) Bar shuts at 10.30pm, however didn't use this due to their being lots of bars in Bowness. I wouldn't class it as a luxury guest house, more cosy due to the room being old and tired. I would return if we had a better room for the same price. Enjoyable stay one the less.

It was a really pleasant stay. Place is out of the way and it’s really cosy. Comfy beds, cute rooms and nice service. Room and bathroom were both clean. The only thing I was missing were lack of shower gel/soap/shampoo in the bathroom which should be basic in hotel room in xxi century. Breakfast was tasty and there was a good Choice. Parking is not big but we managed to find a space.

The staff at the hotel were all very friendly and helpful. The location was about 7 mins walk to Windemere and about 15mins walk to Bowness so the location was good. Breakfast was excellent. The room was a little tired and you could hear squeeky floorboards coming from the room above which made it quite annoying. On the whole we had a pleasant stay.

We’ve have now stayed here 3 times over the last couple of years and have never had any problems. Yes the communication could be better, as in not replying to emails or being on hand for the phone but the staff work their butts off! We stayed in room 16 The courtyard suite, we’ve stayed in that twice and room 17 next door, Kings suite once. Both rooms lovely, spacious and clean, Needed a fan whilst there, cleaned and brought to us straight away. Hairdryers to use too, Toiletries and clean towels , coffee, tea , water and hot chocolate. Didn’t use the bar as too many restaurants and pubs nearby, plenty of car parking. Breakfast was lovely, I had smoked salmon two days running, my husband a full English. Cereals , fruit, juices, yoghurts and croissants too. Lovely little place , near enough to walk to places but out of the hustle and bustle so you can sleep at night. I’m sure they’ll be a fourth visit! The staff make this hotel and are still the same staff that we saw first time round, Thank you woodlands for a nice two night stay.
