Stayed at the Melbourne for 2 nights New Year’s Eve and day, from walking in we were made to feel welcome and you noticed straightaway how clean it was, we was in room 2 which was very spacious and had an extra large bed and even a small fridge in the bottom of the wardrobe. Towels were provided along with tea and coffee. Breakfast was what you wanted really but would recommend the full English, it was prepared from scratch so it came fresh and piping hot, cannot fault the Melbourne so on leaving we’ve booked again for this New Year’s Eve but added an extra day, would definitely recommend it.

I stayed here with my friend last weekend and we were happy from start to finish. We booked a basic room but for a basic room it was very nice. It was handy that toiletries were provided. The bed was very comfortable. The owners whenever we saw them was very friendly and helpful, even recommending places to go. We paid for breakfast when we arrived, good price of £6 each for each night. The breakfast was really nice, Julie one of the owners made it as we had full breakfasts both days and we both really enjoyed it. The guest house is ideally located as out of the thick of everything but close enough to dip in and out. We will use here as a base when we come back.

We would like to thank Russell and Julie for their fantastic welcome. Julie upgraded our stay to their premium room without charge as my husband was probably too tall for the bedroom allocated . The guest house was spotless clean and I felt safe with the Covid measures in place. They were more than happy to recommend local places to eat and we were not disappointed. The breakfast was delicious and cooked to order, you could have as much toast as you wished . I would say nothing was too much trouble and we felt very at home. Would recommend this guest house to stay as just a 15 minute walk to the lake. We will definitely return to stay .

I am sorry to hear you have have experienced problems with Booking.com, We have not spoken to you and you have not stayed with us as Guest, or indeed experienced our Hospitality. Your experience is nothing to do with Melbourne Guest House and therefore it is extremely unfair to place a negative review when you issues are with booking.com.

Booked two nights at Melbourne Guest House but unfortunately got notified by the government that I had been in contact with someone who had tested positive for Covid-19 and had to self isolate when I was literally ten minutes away from the accommodation.

After driving two hours to get there the responsible thing to do and my legal duty was to drive the two hours back home to keep everyone safe including the owners and guests at Melbourne Guest House .

I called the guest House only to be told that they would expect full payment despite it being a legal obligation to self isolate and was clearly out of my control .

I phoned booking .com who told me payment was at the discretion of the owner ( which was true as the next B & B we were booked into and had to cancel did not charge as cancellation was due to Covid and out of my control)

The owner did take full payment off the registered bank card which I find highly inappropriate. Would she have preferred I didn't return home and possible put them all at risk ?

Shame on you Melbourne Guest House .

Looking at practically every guest house/ hotel in the area I settled on this one due to number of wonderful comments about the owners.
And they did not disappoint.. they were so lovely, accommodating and down to earth people. Even give recommendations and maps for local walks.
I didn’t realise how perfect the location actually was. Walk down the street down left and your at the top of bowness bank.
The guest house had parking outside (free) and 4 dedicated spots slightly further down the street.
We managed to check in early end the room was clean and comfortable (no3) top floor.
The breakfast was delicious, able to give times each day that suited us and our plans.
Managed to sit in the same seat next to the window.
We will return and thank you for a great few days away.

This was our 3rd visit to the Melbourne and once again it did not disappoint.
It has everything you need for a wonderful few days away whilst soaking up the delights of the Lakes.
Spotlessly clean, free parking - although limited - great location and SUPERB BREAKFAST !!.
The owner's / hosts Julie & Russ are very nice people who are always happy to accommodate your requests or needs.
Naturally some will have concerns due to Covid 19 but rest assured they take this seriously and have measures in place to make your stay as safe as possible.
Our room this time was No1...ground floor, very little noise from outside so no issues there, a good size , well appointed & lovely.
If you've never been then your missing out, get booked in and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
We'll be back soon enough...

Felt like a struggling guest house. Money taken before we were taken to our room which was basic to say the least and way over priced. Breakfast ok but not the best quality. Decor tired and needs alot of work and money putting into it and with t he e prices they are charging for such small basic rooms then they should be able to afford it.

Like my first visit in 2019 as a single traveller I spent 4 nights staying in this delightful B&B. This time however I occupied the single room rather than a double as per my first visit. The down side to this is that there is no shower unit but instead there is a separate toilet, although not the most convient arrangement it did not stop me from enjoying my stay.
Once again I was warmly greeted by Russell and Julie and this continued each day at breakfast, Choice of breakfast was realy good and each day I went out to explore the lake area fully fortified. In other words only needing a light lunch.
Its conviently placed for either walking to the lake or (as I did) walking to the bus station in Windermere.
Using the local bus service is a great way to see and visit the surrounding places without the hassel of using your car and then finding somewhere to park.
It was very busy whilst I was there. Another alternative is to take a trip with a company called Mountain Goat where you can sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Obviously at this current time covid restrictions apply here and elswhere but I'm sure we are all use to this now.
Eating out at can be a problem since for most places you need to book a table.

I hope to return again sometime in the future.
