Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fantastic night at Abbey House (Winter getaway) free up-graded to the Spring suite. Suite was immaculate with a bottle of fizz on ice. Beautiful decor and nice touches like the changing-coloured lights around the bath area, beautiful bathroom, tea, coffee, free Wi-Fi, I am on EE and had nothing on my phone, so the good quality Wi-Fi was helpful. We had dinner at Oscars restaurant food was very good with a tasty veggie wellington. Breakfast was very nice with a continental selection and cooked breakfast cooked to order. Polite and friendly staff, a very pleasant experience.

We stayed for three nights and had an exceptional experience. We had lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and room service across the 3 days and all the food was good and you could tell good quality ingredients had been used. The suite was very spacious with proper furniture, the bathroom was huge and my wife adored the bath. The real highlight however was the staff, they were always friendly and engaging. Nothing was to much trouble for them.

We came here to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary for a meal with our little kids. Food was OK, ambience was zero! . Even though we pre booked a table, we were put in a room with no ambience at all. All by ourselves . No music no nothing. A couple joined us in the room at a corner table . They quickly realised how drab the ambience was and asked if they could be sat outside. We asked the same , ie to be moved, but we're told it was too busy. Then the waitresses ..omg every two minutes asking us of everything was OK? Especially when it took them 30 mins to get our orders. The only saving grace was the Indian waiter who came to chat with us We gave a £10 tip making the bill to £100 exactly just because of the Indian waiter. The food was passable. They forgot the goats cheese balls that we ordered . And also when we requested our garlic mayo, the lady said she would see what she could do ... and didn't turn up at all. It was our kids that entertained us. AMBIENCE was the worst . Drab , dull and basically charmless

Just Beautiful, stunning grounds you can wonder round and sit and enjoy. So many benches about so you can relax or sit on the terrace to enjoy the views. This stunning hotel is a picture to behold. We had great service and very good food. The room was lovely and great nights sleep.

Can't praise this hotel enough. Stayed a few times very clean. lovely friendly staff lovely location. Food was amazing. There is a nice little walk to the old ruined Abbey through the well looked after gardens. The Abbey house is really good as a wedding venue. Highly recommended

Abbey House Hotel was really good. Stayed here a couple of nights on business. Staff here were brilliant and very friendly. Breakfast was really good as well. They have a well laid out gym if you’d like to exercise during your stay. The only downside is the knocking pipes during the night in my room (room 114). Typical noise you get from pipe expansion when the heating turns on but was constant and has disturbed my sleep. Without this I’d have given the hotel a 5.

A massive thank you to Lauren & Laura & the rest of the Abbey house team who helped us plan, prepare & run our magical wedding on the 2nd December 2023, even though it dropped 6 inches of snow on the morning of the wedding they made sure us & our guests were well looked after. The drink & the food flowed, sore feet were had from dancing, so thank you to our DJ Pete Murphy for recreating the 90’s club vibe.

Went for the Christmas lunch menu, it was really good, last years was not a very pleasant experience. They obviously have new staff. It was busy and we where offered a table either in the bar or the al fresco (despite the booking being made 5 weeks in advance). We chose al fresco, it was a little noisy but very warm. My one complaint was warm food, served on a cold plate. Please I want hot food served on a HOT plate.
