Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had to work weekdays in Barrow for 10 months along way from home. The Maindee has a family feel where you are always made to feel welcome. The rooms are comfortable and cosy in the winter and cool in the summer.

Just stayed 8 nights here. Hosts are charming, the place is spotlessly clean and it is 5 minutes from Barrow Railway Station. They have a small dog who is also a host and greets you as well. No complaints at all. Grand old Victorian house.

This is a quaint Guest House close to the train station and eateries as well as shopping. The owner, Ian, is very pleasant and accommodating . The rooms are clean with ample room for comfort. The beds are wonderful and cozy. The only draw back is the shared bathroom which services a group of four rooms. Not to my comfort level but many travellers would be ok with that. Very clean. Would recommend.

Ian was warm and welcoming as always. He managed to squeeze me and my daughter and her friend in for the night at very last minute after swapping other guests around to accommodate us. Clean room and clean shared shower room with shower gel and shampoo provided. The beds are like marshmallows soo comfortable. Breakfast is all so amazing Ian went out to get my daughter Rice Krispies for breakfast Highly highly recommend.

Stayed here for 2 consecutive week ends for work. Ian the owner has a very comfortable B & B convenient for the rail station, buses and town centre. Everything in the room was what you expect and spotless. The shared bathroom was again spotless with a variety of soaps. Rooms are on the upper floors and normally face the rear from what I could see so very quiet. Actually good access to the Southern Lakes which is about 40 minutes. The T V had all channels available so plenty of choice. Opposite is a huge park but I didn’t have time to investigate but it looked attractive from outside. I’d definitely stay again if in the area again.

Booked over the telephone after reading good reviews. Arrived. Parking a nightmare. Met the owner who was pleasant..we had to remove our boots at the entrance. We were showed our rooms. They were very old fashioned. Cold too. The carpet on the stairs and landing felt damp and looked stained. There isnt enough toilets for the amount of bedrooms. The toilet was filthy and had to ask owner to clean it as I had the freight of my life when lifting the toilet seat up....omg. Shower cubicle very small. Sink was tiny and struggled to wash hands in it. Overall very poor and wont be staying again

A comfortable home from home. This is probably the cleanest place I have ever stayed. I usually don't stay in guest houses, prefering hotels. I choose Maindee for the close location to the railway station. I am glad I did. I will stay again The hosts were friendly and there were chocolates on the dresser by the front door for guests to help themselves too. The bed was very comfortable .

Ian and Phoebe are such genuine and warm hosts. We were looking for a place to stay in Barrow while working and rang Maindee on the off chance for a room that night. There was no reply but within minutes Ian rang me back and asked if he could help. He managed to squeeze us in and we arrived 10 minutes later to a lovely B&B. Ian and Phoebe were so helpful and made our brief stay very comfortable. The room was extremely clean and the shared bathroom was spotless. They provided spare shower gel and shampoos in the bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and our room had a sink and kettle with milk and coffee etc. Parking is to the side of the property and we managed to get parked quite close both times. We were working locally and Ian saved our bacon and a long trek back out West and back! I would definitely recommend this B&B.

Traditional Good quality B&B with a good breakfast, our room was spacious and the TV was a good size. It is close to the Town centre with it's places to eat. Run by Very nice Lady - Feebee. There is on street parking in the adjacent side street.

Friendly family run guest house, good breakfast, comfortable rooms. Ian and Phoebe are very hospitable. We stayed there for 3 days in April with two friends, one double room and a single room. Just a few minutes walk from the train station.
