I stayed at this hotel whilst on business in Barrow and was very pleasantly surprised. i was in room 14 and it was massive; king size bed, plenty of room to spread out in the room with a desk and chair. The bathroom had obviously been refurbished with a stand alone bath and a walk in shower, and very nice...

Been a few years since I've been here. Turned up drenched from the walk from the train station, it rains a lot in Cumbria. Was warmed by the welcome from the smiling, cheery staff. The Duke looks nice from outside, a rather grand Victorian pile of bricks. It's quite fantastic inside. Stayed in room 316, which is quite a walk...

Absolutely could not fault the place. The room we stayed in was absolutely beautiful, a mixture of modern decor and old rustic. The room was so comfortable, perfect for having a quiet new years eve with a bottle of champagne! Breakfast was fairly standard with a choice of cereal and/or hot food. In a decent area with lots of places...

Lovely hotel and the staff were very accommodating. Would recommend to anyone! The breakfast and dinner menus are also winners!! The location with the proximity to the station is also fab! Can't wait to go back again.

I've had several reasonable stays but the last was not so good. Completely disorganised at breakfast on my last day and they could not provide within 30mins. Reception not interested in hearing about the issue. Generally seem to provide a good service but not on that day.

We recently stayed at the DofE over the New Year weekend and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the accommodation. I have known this hotel for at least 35 years and, at one point used to spend considerable time in there as I knew the daughter of a previous owner. Since then it has improved beyond all recognition and...

My boyfriend booked this hotel as a christmas present and so we could enjoy New Years Eve. The hotel advises check in at 3pm which I did think was a bit late, but we were fine with going out and having some lunch down the road at Wetherspoons (which was really nice!) After this it was only 1.30ish so we...
