Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My son and I have stayed at the RF for 3 years with a golfing group and I wanted to write a review for the hotel and its staff. They have always accommodated all our comings and goings, arrival times and food and beverage needs with a smile and a helpful word. The food is excellent as are the rooms and the best testament I can make is that with a large group , "the rooms" have never been a source of complaint or protracted discussion. The restaurant food is great and they have always found us a large table and varying arrival times. The staff are (always) polite and helpful despite the challenge of a large group of inattentive golfers buried in discussion and relaxing after a day on the links. When staff remember you and go the extra mile to help you enjoy your stay and find "solutions" to group needs it makes a real difference. Rooms have all facilities with good showers | tea | bedding | towels and the secure parking next door is a real blessing. the hotel is a hub of activity in Barnstable so probably not great for a quiet peaceful break, but if you want a lively atmosphere, local views, amenities & scenery on tap look no further. All in all a wonderful hotel and (as always) it the staff who make it with a great attitude! Thanks folks.

We had one night at The Royal & Fortescue and we had a really lovely time. The room was spacious and comfortable and our dinner at 62 The Bank was absolutely fantastic. The staff in both the hotel and restaurant were all delightful and we had an excellent stay. Very reasonable too.

Very nice quality Hotel. Booked with a third party online then found l could have got a better deal booking direct with the Hotel. Breakfast lovely. Nice central town position. We were lucky so problem parking for us but spaces limited on the Hotel's two car parks which would be my only grumble. Would definitely stay again!

Great location for all local amenities. Close to some really great eating places. Lovely room with all you can need. My only criticism is the awful pillows. Literally, flat hard stones. Parking on site is limited also, but plenty of other parking nearby

Excellent service from all staff. The bistro provides an excellent location for the full English breakfast buffet and for evening meals. All food quality and presentation was excellent. Rooms in the mews are quite small but cosy, hot water takes ages to get through to the wash basin and shower.

We have been enjoying the food, comfort and excellent service standards at the most conveniently located Royal & Fortescue in Barnstable for many years. The hotel has suited many family occasions by our youngest grandchild at 13 through to our elderly mother in her 98th year.

This was a group booking made by our company, we stated we were all night workers and need to sleep in the day however we were placed in a communal walkway outside where staff would move large bins throughout the day making it very difficult to sleep during the day, this was questioned on the first night and the staff said that this was the best location in the hotel for us. There was also left over belonging from the previous guests in draws.
