Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Having been warmly welcomed by our wonderful hosts, Sarah and Andrew, we were shown to our delightful accommodation. We opted for one of the tents which had fabulous views of the surrounding fields, the lake, the gypsy caravans and horse boxes on site. Each of the 10 pitches has its own shower room and fridge in the spacious barn where hot drinks can be made, washing up can be done and mobile ‘phones etc can be charged. There’s also comfy sofas with cushions where naps can be taken and board games can be played. Sleeping in the tent was like sleeping in a huge marshmallow - so soft, warm, comforting and quiet. On a trip to the loo at 4am I was stunned by the number of stars to be seen due to almost zero light pollution. If you’re looking for a little bit of heaven get down the North Thorne Farm in Devon!

We had such a fun glamping experience at North Thorne Farm staying in “Bluebell” - the horse box, whilst our daughters had their own Bell Tent. The barn provided a great communal area with all amenities provided, we even had our own shower and bathroom. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts, Sarah & Andy, a lovely touch was some delicious homemade cake on our arrival. A perfect location for a family getaway with North Devons famous coastline only a short drive away. We enjoyed our evenings with a BBQ and drinks round the fire pit

Absolutely fabulous stone cottage set in beautiful Devon countryside. Our gracious hosts, Sarah and Andrew, welcomed us with homemade scones and locally sourced essentials. Impeccably clean, decorated and furnished beautifully to a high standard, made the cottage feel like home. Added magical touches for Christmas made our stay even more special and festive. Perfectly situated to explore the Devon countryside, Exmoor and stunning coast, we can’t wait to return in warmer months. Many thanks for making our stay one to remember!

Thank you for a fantastic stay. Owners Sarah and Andrew make you feel very welcome show you round the site and to your accommodation. I stayed in one of the Bell tents which had a double and 2 single beds with loads of room for a family of 4. Unfortunately the weather wasnt playing ball so I wasn't able to use the fire pit and the outside space so I'll definitely be back. Each unit has its own bathroom (mine was travel themed) so I could leave my things and not have to keep taking to and from the tent which was nice. And each unit has their own fridge as well in the barn which houses all the bathrooms, a guest kitchen area for washing up and a seating area. There is also a games room with table-tennis table and other games available and a tennis court.

There is also a small on site shop.

Would 100% recommend staying and I will staying again. Thank you Sarah and Andrew for a great day

Had an incredible break here. Sarah and Andy are wonderful hosts, the location is awesome, - you can see both Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks from their upper field - and you drive across a dam holding back the beautiful Whistle and Pound reservoir to get to the property. There are local walks, woods, beaches, pretty towns and villages, cream teas, etc. It’s Devon!! On top of that you go home to a welcoming cottage, a hot shower, a lovely little kitchen, a courtyard area, a wonderful mezzanine loft bedroom and a separate two single bed room on the ground floor, amazing views all around the barns, Pygmy goats to walk past, chickens (and lots of different colourful breeds), sheep wandering about, amazing local produce, it’s simply idyllic. When you add in the wonderful Exmoor, Dartmoor and North Devon coast on your doorstep it’s not a decision of if you should go, but when. Once you have seen the night sky full of stars without light pollution and breathed fresh air, your spirits are lifted and you literally feel the relaxation impact your very soul. Go. Soon. You won’t regret it.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Calving Barn Cottage. We were made to feel so welcomed by Sarah and Andy who are amazing hosts and the cottage was beautiful! All of the small details and touches is what made it so special. Scones with fresh jam and cream, as well as milk and fresh bread on arrival was such a lovely touch! We were thrilled with all of the recommendations Sarah and Andy gave us! Braunton Burrows and Saunton Sands was one of our favourites, alongside the walks through Lynton and Lynmouth and the valley of the rocks - a beautiful view! We also loved the recommendation of the local pub, The Black Venus Inn - great food! The surroundings of the cottage are stunning and make for such a beautiful stay, we especially loved spending our mornings walking around the reservoir! We cannot wait to come back and visit.

We had a wonderful stay in the converted horse box in July. The site was beautiful and quiet with an amazing night sky. The horse box was really comfortable and came with an outside picnic bench and bbq and also chairs round a fire pit. We had our own private shower room and fridge. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and gave us a homemade cake on our arrival. We will definitely be coming back.

We needed a quiet break after the two years of the pandemic and ready for me to get ready for eye surgery. The cottage was very well renovated and extremely clean and cosy for the two of us. We had lovely walks around the resevoir and also made use of the barbecue in the enclosed courtyard whilst there ! We slept very well and woke up to the very verbal cockerel in the morning (not too early as well !) The added bonus was that my auntie and uncle were able to join us for a few hours from Kent, Sarah and Andrew were the most superb hosts and could not fault their attention to detail.

Arriving at North Thorne you drive past the beautiful Wistlandpound Reservoir up the lane to the Glamping site. We were given a warm welcome by hosts Sarah and Andy and shown around the site.

We are not seasoned campers so it was great to see everything has been thought of! You have your own toilet, shower room and private fridge. Inside was a homemade cake to enjoy.

We are a family of four, our teenage daughters stayed in a well equipped bell tent and my husband and I stayed in Bluebell the fabulously quirky and cute Horsebox. Both had fire pits to enjoy.

North Thorne is a beautiful site. A short drive to lots of North Devon’s top spots like Illfracombe and Woolacombe.

Spending time relaxing in the kitchen barn and games room was a fun way to meet others. Sharing a cup of tea or glass of wine.

We got a shot of adrenaline by visiting a local quad bike centre that was nearby.

Sarah and Andy also have a beautiful cottage to stay in all year round. We will be returning. Highly recommend to get away from it all.
