We are regular visitors to this area to see family. On this occasion our visit was timed to coincide with the Appledore Book Festival. In order to comply with Covid requirements we decided to look for separate accommodation close to family. The Poplars proved to be an ideal location for our purpose. The Poplars occupies a beautiful Edwardian house in a quiet residential area of Barnstaple. Maggie and Saul (along with cheeky "Westie" Pearl!) are friendly and fairly laid back hosts, and guests are free to roam and linger in the beautiful garden. The breakfasts use locally sourced ingredients, and in my view easily out perform those served up in larger establishments. The super sweet black pudding was quite a revelation and is worth a 5 🌟 in its own right!

Welcomed by hosts with home-made lemon cake! Very comfortable and spacious room. Beautiful and relaxing garden. Good choice of breakfast. Excellent location for sight seeing as very close to main A361 road. Excellent value for money.

Would highly recommend this B&B. The rooms are spacious, chic and comfortable. Lovely short countryside break vibes, a fab home cooked breakfast, and friendly, helpful hosts. Maggie was very welcoming.

Just got back from a five night stay absolutely fabulous Maggie and Saul are great hosts Saul cooks the most amazing breakfasts local produce and lots of choice with Maggie homemade jam . Maggie even made us a beautiful marmalade cake when we arrived . The house is amazing and their garden which we sat out most afternoon was lovely . We had a garden view room very spacious very comfy bed and had everything you needed. Before we arrived had an email from them with a list of local restaurants to book which we did and was not disappointed. We will definitely be back next year cannot recommend this place enough would give more than 5 stars if we could .

Highly recommended. We stayed for two nights, the property itself is exemplary with a beautiful garden which can be enjoyed by guests. Breakfast is all locally sourced and cooked freshly. The hosts couldn't have been more helpful and they even allowed us to charge our car :)
