We stayed at Oak Cottage for on night only after a day in Durham. The reccomendation for evening dinner in Lanchester was spot on, so after a long day and a Huge meal we were in need of a good night sleep. We were not disappointed. We both slept well and in the morning went down for breakfast in the conservatory,a very... Needed a place to stay for one night but forgot about the Great North run. Left it till the last minute and everywhere was around £120. Found this place by chance and so glad we did. Just the one room which was perfect. The hosts made us feel so welcome and were there if we needed them. Breakfast was delightful... More

Stopped here for four nights whilst our daughter graduated from Durham University. The hosts Kim and Mike are the most delightful couple you could wish to meet and nothing is too much trouble for them. Their 'house' is wonderful, the room is spacious and clean and the garden is alive with birds of all types, our daughter got a photo... More

The hosts are delightful and were very welcoming. They pointed me in the direction of dinner in a neighbouring village and were spot on with warnings about portion sizes. Breakfast was fantastic (no need for lunch) and the unfolding entertainment of feeding birds of all types was just fantastic.

Lovely comfortable place run by lovely warm friendly people. Bedroom has it all. Nice clean bed, two comfy chairs, tv, ensuite with shower. A little out of the way for a trip to Durham but well worth the travel and only 15 minutes in the car. We ate in the Kings Head which was about a 10 minute drive away,... More

This was our second stay at Oak Cottage, which gave us a welcome stop-over on our way from Northumberland back to Essex. The lovely owners are very welcoming and genuinely seem to enjoy meeting new people and looking after them. The bedroom was very comfortable; the decor traditional. Breakfast was one of the highlights. Not just because of the lovely... More

We stayed 2 nights at the Oak Cottage, had a nice big room with very modern bathroom and lovely views into the garden in the morning, during breakfast. Very pleasant, helpful hosts. One thing that really affected the stay was the mattress in the bed, it was really hard and we had problems sleeping on it - Would be good... More

My wife and I stayed one night with Mike and Kim on our way up to Edinburgh. We had a lovely large room and separate bathroom at the top of the stairs, both of which were spotlessly clean. Comfy armchairs were in the room, tea/coffee making facilities, TV and a good selection of brochures on local attractions. Delicious cooked breakfast... More
