We really love visiting Chestnut Villa, as it is so homely and dog friendly and always a warm welcome from owner Lesley. When you arrive she will get you settled with a fresh pot of tea and biscuits. The rooms are comfortable usually double and single bed with TV in each room. The house is in a lovely setting near...

We are regular guests at Chestnut Villa. The setting by the river is quiet and relaxing...dippers and kingfishers hidden from the house but easily seen after a 59 second walk through the tall grass. Feeling weary, excited, curious or apprehensive...Lesley will be there for you....sharing her family home. GOLD STAR.

We love this B&B. It is not a modern property as the name clearly indicates and only has a handful of rooms but it is a delight to stay here. The decor is elegant with walls adorned with the owner's own paintings. The rooms are comfortable and most have an additional single bed. The food is delicious and the service...

Arrived for a pre-booked stay in busy graduation week to find that the owner had double-booked. We can only suggest you are very careful about your reservation as nothing was confirmed in writing or by email, and the 2 telephone calls we made were not reliable. We were helped to alternative accommodation, so all was well in the end. But...

Only had a one night stay but I will certainly try to return to Chestnut Villa. Lesley is a lovely host and made us feel so welcome and even our Border Collie was made to feel at home. The house is lovely and so is the garden and given a special feel with Lesley's fine collection of paintings throughout the...

My husband, friend, and I spent two nights with Lesley, the loveliest hostess ever. Don't know which we liked better, the delicious breakfasts with homemade jams and fruit, or watching the bunnies and pheasant in the English garden out our upper window in the evening. We were welcomed with tea and cookies, and relaxed conversation ranging from art, to history,...

This is the second time I have stayed at Chestnut Villa and once again the welcome by Lesley was very warm and she made a pot of tea on arrival which was a nice touch. The room was perfect with a very comfy bed and the decor was modern, but still a traditional room. Very quiet as well. The breakfast...

Lesley was so welcoming to us. We felt very well looked after. She provided an excellent breakfast. We enjoyed Lesley's art in the breakfast room. We stayed in a family room, but needed to use a travel cot for our daughter. There was not much space once this was put up - but we were fine for the night. The...

My son, wife and I stayed here for one night and the owner went out of er way to make us feel at home. Plenty of offsite parking with beautifully kept gardens. The room was lovely with our own bathroom and after showing us to our room, we were welcomed with a pot of tea and biscuits downstairs in a...

Me and my two friends stayed here for 2 nights. The proprietor was extremely friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble! The food was excellent and the room, were three of us ladies stayed was very clean, comfortable and recommended. The walk into Durham along the river is lovely from this B and B.

“The three rooms all have their charms. One is often used for singles but the two win beds can be joined to make a terrific double. It has an en suite and is a good size. There is one family room with a double and a single bed and ensuite. The third room is very similar but with a private bathroom. All are equally good with period decor and lovely art work.”
