Not sure of what was so wonderful about Chester le Street in Durham that someone went to the trouble of building a castle but I'm sure if I'd read some of the leaflets or asked one of the tunic wearing staff, they would have enlightened me. Full of authentic castle stuff and twisty corridors, it's just so not premier Inn...

Got a late booking here for a Sunday night. Found the reception hidden round the side. Being a proper castle all the door ways are defended and not suitable for the usual large lobby. Good welcome and sent me off with a porter to my room. My sense of direction is good but I was soon lost. With four sides...

Stopped here again and as usual had a great relaxing time. Our room was in the main hotel and was large with big en-suite. Was a bit worried with it being freezing outside that parts of the castle would be cold but not an issue at all. The bar area has a couple of great open fires and comfy chairs...

What a fabulous place. You feel as though you are staying with friends in their sumptuous castle. I sat in the library having a sandwich when I arrived and I was able to read the 1848 Encyclopedia Britannia beside a log fire. In the evening I had the signature dish of fillet steak which was the best and in the...

We booked for just one night stay at Lumley Castle but could have stayed longer. The castle is beautiful and it's great that all of the original features have been kept. It's so quirky it's unbelievable! I love this hotel and will definitely be back. The staff are great so friendly and helpful

Cross Game of Thrones with League of Gentlemen and set in a beautiful castle in Durham and it only half describes this magical place! Wonderful setting and great traditional English food from kippers for breakfast to pheasant and venison for dinner - magic! But the staff make this place!

Superb venue for the medieval banquet they offered but it was not what you would expect !! service was very poor and food extremely basic on the night. Waited in a que for dinner and packed in like animals. Waited in another que for breakfast for 35 minutes. The hot breakfast choice was either full English or kippers. Told no...

We arrived well in time for our afternoon tea, which was booked for 3pm. We were shown to our table then waited for 15 minutes before the waitress came over with the menu. We ordered a standard afternoon tea, then waited a further 45 minutes before our Tea arrived and this was after asking how much longer it would be....

My boyfriend took me here for my 23rd birthday and I adored it! Felt like a true princess. We arrived here in august and it was a beautiful day. Got straight up to our room and oh my god ... you opened the wardrobe and walked into the bathroom. It was so so special! We never ate here on an...
