I had two recents visits, one for lunch and one an overnight stay , first the meal , waited an age for the food to arrive , not idea why as the place is full of students hogging the wifi with one coffee all day , went into the Starbucks which belongs to the hotel and could not get a...

We stayed here for two nights. We were upgraded to the Cathedral Suite - which had great views of the castle and the cathedral. Staff were very helpful and efficient. They even loaned us a brolly when we had some rain. Breakfast is buffet style but very good.

My stay in February was not good, but returning in May the experience was better. There were lavender plants in the conservatory, which were fresh (In February the flowers in the conservatory were dead. The breakfast was plentiful and the staff were very pleasant and helpful

On my recommendation of this hotel, my parents on a recent trip up to see us decided to stay at the Royal County and they were not disappointed. Before they arrived I went in and spoke to Reception staff explaining that my Father is registered disabled and that I wanted to pay the parking in the secure carpark for the...

Nice enough hotel, with a central location. My room was very spacious, but the bathroom looked very dated. The lack of free WiFi in the rooms seems dated too. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Staff throughout the hotel were friendly and efficient.

A very dated hotel in need of refurbishment-the hotel bar was full of students during the day and early evening with no where to sit-wifi signal at its limit-and when I asked why do you let the students in-I was told in no uncertain terms that they spend a lot of money-well that put me off drinking in the bar...

We stayed here for one night during our roadtrip to Scotland, and enjoyed the short walk to the main part of town and Durham cathedral. The rooms are clean, but this is very clearly two buildings converted into one hotel years ago which now is rather run-down and could do with a complete overhaul. A very typical British country hotel,...

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. The original part of the hotel dating back to the 16th Century has been extended over the years but the interior bedroom décor is the same across them all. We are sorry that you felt the car parking charge of £5.00 overnight was expensive - there is a charge as...

Friendly service at this hotel in the centre of Durham. We stayed in the older building which has plenty of character. There's a beautiful organ clock at the top of the old staircase, but which did not appear to be working. The room was a reasonable size, with a decent size en suite and big window for lots of natural...

We had one night stay at the county, and have to say we were not that impressed. The room I booked was suppose to be superior but was really small and run down, it looked out over a roof below which wasn't that pleasant. The sofa bed was terrible. The spa and pool was ok but again feel that they...

This was a lovely hotel right in the heart of Durham, so great location. Very friendly staff, always willing to give restaurant and sight-seeing suggestions. Room was spacious and clean and breakfast (although a little pricey) is quite good too. Definitely recommend to anyone travelling through Durham.
