Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I wish we had booked a Premier Inn instead, The Hotel grounds are mainly a carpark. The lock on our bathroom did not work, the toilet seat was loose as was the loo roll holder. The lock on the window didn't work, fortunately we were on the first floor so security wasn't an issue. The gap around the room door was so large that you didn't have to put the room light on to walk to the loo at night. The mattress was sunk in the middle so you had to adopt a sleeping position that avoided you rolling into each other. The Hotel should have been aware of all of these issues as they would have been obvious from a basic inspection. The bathroom is the only bathroom that I have been in where I could sit in the loo and touch the plug of both the bath and the sink at the same time. I don't normally try to do this but it demonstrates how small the bathroom is. When I sat on the loo my knees touched the bath! To top this off we had to listen to a drunk couple have a swearing contest until the gone midnight, we would have reported this to reception but there was nobody at reception, had there been anyone at reception they would have been able to hear the entertainment for themselves.

Came for a friend's wedding. Everything was absolutely beautiful. Staff were so attentive, friendly and helpful. Big shout out to Declan and Lewis who were great! The venue was beautiful, food was excellent, possibly the best roast beef I've had! Breakfast was incredible too, quality ingredients. We stayed in one of the lodges which was really lovely, great jacuzzi bath! All in all, a fabulous venue for a wedding. It's easy to see why they've won an award for their weddings. Credit to the staff for excellent service .

On 15th September we got married at Bowburn Hall Hotel and it couldn’t have gone better due to this amazing venue and staff - anyone thinking about booking Bowburn needs to do it! Since booking our wedding we’ve visited Bowburn on several occasions and have always been impressed with the venue, food and customer service. The staff at Bowburn took the stress out of planning a wedding through regular meetings and offering such good value for money for what’s included in the exclusive package. On the wedding day Lewis was our wedding co-ordinator and was very attentive to make sure the day ran smoothly, alongside all the other staff who were always welcoming and friendly. The amount and standard of food was exceptional on the day with a wide range to choose from when planning the wedding. The weather wasn’t on our side but the venue accommodated the full day inside. Accommodation was great, especially the garden lodges which my partner and I would love to come back to stay in. Would highly recommend Bowburn for anyone booking a wedding, we will definitely look forward to coming back regularly to visit the restaurant!

I met a friend for lunch and ordered fish and chips. It was cold on arrival, the batter contained no fish to speak of and what there was looked like it had been cooked before and then battered. The chips were cold and consisted of thin shards of potato skin so fried they were inedible . The only good things were the garden oeas

The en suite shower was one of the worst I've encountered. Totally unusable due to a blocked waste which flooded the shower tray, the grouting was covered in black mould throughout and the base trim was hanging off. You would be better off at a Travelodge which are cleaner and half the price. My complaint got an apology but no refund.

A pleasant find when looking for somewhere to break up our journey from the south of England back to Scotland. A nice, clean room with a large comfy bed and a nice refurbed en-suite shower room. Quite a quirky dining room / conservatory area which served a limited daily menu with a comprehensive specials board till late. Food was freshly cooked and very nice. Self-service cooked & continental breakfast available a well - standard choice and again nicely cooked. Garden area outside conservatory with a small play area for children. Pleasant staff. No elevator / lift and all bedrooms are up at least one flight of stairs

I've booked this venue for our wedding next Sept. From the very get go, Tom and Lucy were understanding, caring and considerate to our requirements. Both are very apparently superb at what they do as we left feeling very at ease and very happy with our decision. The communication between us all has been informative and seamless. We also sampled some sublime food at the venue and we're more than suitably impressed with the prices and the service all round Truly a north eastern gem. Well don't team Bowburn. Mark A.

Solo one night stay: Pros: - Very quiet especially on the night time. - Felt very private - Spa bath was amazing - Bed was firm and comfortable - Room was tidy and spacious enough for no more than two - Toiletries provided were great - Towels provided - Drinks and biscuits available with a great selection! - Car park can be seen from the lodge - Check in was very easy and staff were welcoming and helpful Cons: - No Wi-Fi at all (luckily had unlimited data) - TV would not load Netflix even though it was in the description of the room. - Stains on the sofa (maybe not a deal breaker but not nice to look at when you’re staying in such an expensive lodge) - Room is very basic, not much life or character to it at all. Just not worth the price. Looks beautiful on the outside and just a bit of a let down inside. - Breakfast was so very limited. A full English is available but very limited. - The price. Payed £169 for one person for one night in the lodge with breakfast (so £159 for the room and £10 breakfast). Would not pay for breakfast for £10 when it’s cheaper and so much better elsewhere. Just not the best food unfortunately. Bacon was very underdone and the mushrooms were bland. Sausages were nice though. Overall stay here is 3/5. Simply just because the lodges are so boring, even as a couple with no Wi-Fi and no working Netflix (I can’t imagine they would be “you know” from 3pm check in through to 11am check out 🤣) There’s just nothing to do in there but sleep or bathe and they don’t take 20 hours either and if you could sleep for 20 hours, why pay £169 to sleep in a bed… Anyway, disliked the food, and the options for breakfast which doesn’t boost my rating. Don’t think a return is in the calender. It promises so much and looks absolutely beautiful outside and then instantly lets you down yet costs quite a bit of money. There are better places out there for better value of money, Not saying avoid this place as if you’re looking for an escape from everything and don’t mind the price then this is absolutely for you. Relaxing yes. Only because it was booked as an escape night for one so good for me. Won’t bring the other half as a romantic getaway, it’s not romantic at all.
