Excellent location with comfortable rooms and great restaurant and lounge area. However, what makes this hotel are the outstanding staff. Courtney, Teagan and Margaret are an absolute credit to this hotel. Nothing was too much trouble, very friendly and accommodating.

We have had Sunday Lunch here on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed but today , 5 November, was a complete letdown. Our table was booked for 12.30 and after ordering drinks we were told that the menu wasn't ready. Surely any chef would have the menu planned days in advance. The choice of food available was nothing like it used to be or anything like their website. The quality of the food was also very poor. We ordered beef and chicken, both tasted as though they were boil in the bag meat and not fresh. The roast potatoes were probably bought frozen, they were very hard. Cabbage and carrots were fresh. We weren't tempted by the poor choice of dessert. The staff were not as pleasant or as interested as previous visits. Sadly we will not be going back.

Booked with a Red Letter Day voucher for my birthday and since it was only for one night we wanted somewhere local. Never been before but will definitely go back. We got there and we were immediately impressed as our room was upgraded for free as they weren't too busy. Loved the decor and the surroundings. Had a few drinks before our meal in the Hearty Hedgehog restaurant (almost £14 for two medium glasses of Malbec...not the cheapest I've ever had but not overly pricey either. Paid just over £10 for 2 pints too, so relatively well priced) we were also gifted with a free plate of freshly made sticky toffee pudding slices... the chef had just finished and there were some left overs! We paid £20 for a deal of 2 fish & chips with 2 glasses of prosecco and it's been a while since we've had such a nice meal...so generous and tasty. Very attentive staff throughout! The cheesecake and brownie were another win! Another few drinks in the snug overlooking the grounds and it was time for bed. The upgraded room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was lovely and the shower was powerful and refreshing. Only thing I'd say we missed was menu/price lists on website before the stay and tiny cups in the bedroom...but that's just a personal preference for a giant cuppa. Overall had a lovely stay, very friendly staff, tasty food, comfortable surroundings and a bloody lovely breakfast included. Would definitely recommend.

When we arrived we had a lovely welcome from the receptionist, our room wasnt free but we were very early we sat and had coffe and then another lady arranged a taxi for us even though she was on her way home. We checked in later with lour friends and went to our rooms, We were extremely disappointed with our room, it was ridiculously small, there was no where to put a suitcase ,we had to make coffeee on the floor next to bed as no where to put kettle. We thought ok its one night we ll manage, until we went in the bathroom. I couldnt shut the shower door properly as it was teeny ( im a size 14) my husband had to pass me shower gel as there was no way I was able to bend down and get it. Without going into too much my husband could only just get in the teeny tiny gap for the toilet and there was no way he d fit in the shower and he s not huge. By then I d had enough This was crazy for £125. I complained, The lady was very obliging and moved us to a deluxe room, Which was far more roomier, except there was a lighting issue after several laps of the hotel up and down stairs we got a replacement lamp. The room was adequate but by no means deluxe, glad I d not paid for a deluxe. We went down to dinner which was niced the staff were very friendly and we had a complimentary drink. The pie and fish and chips looked very good and were enjoyed. My friend and I had rib eye which wascooked beautifuly and tasted great, shame about the presentation I expected more for £25 but Id done with complaining. we had a pleasant evening. Breakfast in the morning was very good fresh and tasty, not sure the cleaner should be hoovering whilst guests are eating though. All in all we had a pleasant stay the staff are so friendly and helpful. Its a beautiful manor house thats been refurbished and lovely grounds outside. Maybe they should keep the teeny tiny room as a broom cupboard. Unfortunately I wouldnt choose to stay again as there are cheaper , better value hotels, as we found out the following night. Our friends room was fine and pretty similiar to our deluxe room which was even more confusing, as we dboth booked a cosy room.

Where to start. Didn’t really want to have to leave a more negative review but our stay was not what we expected having never been here before and paying £230 to stay for one night, I have to be honest with my review. We booked our stay here for our 1 year wedding anniversary and booked the sanctuary suite. Arrival at the hotel was ok, lady on reception was polite. we asked her for a menu for the restaurant so that we could decide if we wanted to eat there or not and she said the menu for that night wasn’t ready yet and she would ask the chef and let us know, by this time it was 3pm. We then went up to our room to put our bags in, room on first look, looked ok. Nothing special for what we had paid and no little extra’s for our anniversary although they ask if you are staying for a special occasion and we did mention that we would like special touches for this if possible. We then went to bar for a drink and again asked for the menu to be told the same thing that they would ask the chef and get back to us. We bought drinks and sat in the lounge which looks lovely at first but discovered it was quite dirty (pics attached). Then my husband noticed how dirty his pint glass was and had food bits on it so took it back to the bar and told the bar lady and she said ‘’where’’ I can’t see it, no apology from her and she went to clean the glass with the pint still in until she realised my husband was still stood there and then gave him a full new drink and said that this glass was clean as she checked it. He sat down to drink and we both noticed it has lipsticks all around the rim of the glass, so again he had to say something and she responded with ‘’well I did check it’’ as thought we had just done it. She did change the drink again though. We drank our drinks and by half 4 gave up waiting for the menu as no one got back to us and booked to eat outside of the hotel. The sanctuary suite - it’s a lovely room overall, the bed was very comfortable, the bath in the room was lovely too. Room in places was a little dirty though, behind the bedside table had been neglected as quite a bit rubbish behind one where I plugged my charger in. Whole place does not have a warm or friendly feel, it’s a bit dirty and staff standards are a little bit lacking. Unfortunately I don’t think we will be back here as it is expensive for what you get. There are cheaper alternatives for a much better experience with little extra touches. It’s a shame as the building and surrounding area are beautiful.

As a busy hardworking couple,we stayed here for a very occasional night away to relax and enjoy.. We arrived early, to unwind and have a drink or 2 before checking in, which was no problem. Ordered a pint, can we have a look at the cocktail menu, we don't make cocktails, prosecco bellini, we don't make them. Is there any TV's to maybe watch some sport, no we don't want that kind of clientele in here, is there any rooms with music to sit in, no... Food menu for tonight, yes but it's limited, not much on... So, after paying 180 quid for a room,up to 10/15 quid per person on food, 10 quid a round then we had shots on top, a good few.. The new manager approached me after hearing myself saying there's limited drinks/food so did buy us a drink, which was very nice, but tbf, we've spent north of 250/300 quid for 1 night for a professional working couple, with extremely limited service, a free drink just didn't match the cost of the stay... Room was nice and clean, very small to be offered to a couple, but nice nonetheless. Breakfast wasn't great, quite dry but a good selection on offer, didn't look like some of the TA reviews pics... We couldn't justify staying here again for the price we paid and the lack of service on offer at the time, a free drink or 2 isn't enough for the cost and our very limited time away we work very hard to enjoy..... But, TBF this was under the new manager Darren and only his 4th/5th day of taking over, but should have asked us to return in a while to see how he's turned it around with maybe a complimentary room, due to the lack of everything, especially at the price and money spent there.... Some really great staff, think it's Nathan went above and beyond, top lad.. I really do with Darren and his staff extremely good look in turning it around for the future.. And to see if Darren will get in touch and offer a stay after he's turned things around... Good luck

Me and my family went out for a evening meal to celebrate a birthday. We wanted to have a nice meal. But, there were a few issues, upon walking in the staff were not all that polite, and the place looked deserted and empty. For 4 starters and mains with 4 drinks cost £101.40. The value for money is fair but quality within the food definitely lacked. Luke warm food for the main… the servers were a complete disaster as every 3 seconds one had some reason to look around and walk off… not sure whether training was provided or not, I’m assuming not. So, food wasn’t that great, it’s rather hidden and forgotten about. Service was inadequate. For 4 starters to appear, it took nearly one hour despite there being less than 10 people in the restaurant. Not all that good, avoid if you can.

Beautiful place, and very lovely staff who couldn’t do anymore for you, especially the general manager Darren, such a lovely and helpful man who truly cares about his guests and it’s so refreshing to see! Would definitely come back again, and excited to see what the future holds for Hallgarth Manor House.

Stayed only one night and just about good enough. The staff were very friendly , but useless, either overworked or no training or no clue. Evening meal took for ever , and I felt sorry for an elderly couple that were still waiting when we left. I settled all my bar bill and evening meal, and the next morning got charged again for a round I know I paid for. No response from Email and receipt proof. Stayed in room above the main entrance, which you would struggle to swing an ant. The shower was the smallest I have ever seen. The décor needs at least a deep clean and some touch up and repairs.
