Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This hotel is one of the cleanest and friendliest we have stayed in. The staff were very helpful. The bedrooms are spacious and airy. A choice of cooked or buffet breakfast is available, also evening meals are available.

Hotel's Favourite
We stayed here for 2 nights before the grand national with 4 couples. Check in very smooth. Rooms very nice and spotless. We had dinner both nights in the hotel which was really nice and very reasonably priced. Staff here are exceptional. They can’t do enough for you, always with a smile and a chat. Always making sure you were happy with things. Taking group photos, making sure outside seats were dry and had seat covers on before we sat. Breakfast great. Transport to and from Aintree with Wigan Travel - Airports who again provided a great service. We would have no problem booking here again and would highly recommend this hotel - for the staff alone!

What a fantastic stay we had at The Holiday Inn Express in Wigan. We cannot recommend the Hotel enough. The cleanliness in the Public Areas was excellent and also the same is said for the bedrooms. We enjoyed eating in the restaurant with a good choice of food on the menu. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. They were always happy to help. We will definitely be staying there again next year when we have our reunion.

I can't fault this hotel if you need a base in the area. We stayed for the night before our friends' wedding nearby and were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed our stay. The staff are a real credit to the hotel, everyone we encountered was so helpful, welcoming and friendly. The room and public areas were clean, bright and fresh. The bar was well stocked and reasonably priced. The room and bathroom were spacious, comfortable and like new. The hotel and rooms seem to be really well soundproofed as it is near to a main road, railway line and industrial park but we couldn't hear a thing when we were inside the building. Breakfast was really good with plenty of choice in a buffet, and really set us up for the day.

We arrived at night and area around hotel looked a bit industrial but we were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. Only stayed one night for morning flight from Manchester. Everything was excellent. Staff were superb. Room was large and new. Breakfast was great. Charge points for EVs. Would definitely use again if in the area.

Stayed for 2 nights but soon realised the hotel is mostly occupied by homeless people. Paying guests are in the minority here. A shame as the staff were nice, good evening meal menu which was reasonably priced. Rooms are modern & clean & breakfast is good. Noisy kids in the corridors started around 7am spoiled the experience.

This has become our go to hotel when in the area. Clean, tidy, lots of parking, good menu, full bar and express breakfast. Most of all its staff are lovely specially the young man with dark curly hair and a lovely young lady called Amy. Bizarrely there are segregated dining and sitting areas in this hotel because they have 'lots of families' currently staying with them. One section is for families and an area for adults only after 5pm. If you are sensitive to hotels hosting lots of homeless people it’s not for you. We aren’t - just sad for the plight they find themselves in and it is painful seeing people filling the outside areas, just whiling their day away. Fingers crossed they get sorted out soon. Such a shame.

After having a second rental break down we were stranded with 4 children and luggage near Wigan. Thanks to a local we found this hotel and despite some booking issues Micheal saved the day and stayed past his shift to make sure it was all sorted out. We came to the UK from Texas to show our children this beautiful country and the people we have encounter have been equally beautiful. Thanks Micheal and Holiday Inn Express for giving us a safe place to sleep after a very challenging day.
