Situated on a level position, directly opposite Paignton Seafront and a short walk to the town centre, you couldn’t ask for a better located hotel in Paignton on the English Riviera. The Marine hotel is airy, modern and light yet highly comfortable with a warm and friendly family atmosphere. We are able to cater for most dietary requirements, please just let us know. We do allow dogs with a small supplement. After just one visit, you’ll want to adopt the hotel as your second home by the sea.

The Marine Hotel garners praise for its prime location near the beach and local amenities, with guests often applauding its lively atmosphere and modern decor. While the entertainment and lounge are highlights, some visitors have expressed dissatisfaction with the Wi-Fi and dated aspects of the hotel.
Cleanliness is a strong suit, with well-kept rooms and comfy beds frequently mentioned, though opinions on value and room quality vary. The staff's friendliness and attentiveness are well-regarded, despite occasional slow service at the bar.

Feedback on visit to Marine Hotel Our break was a Turkey and Tinsel break at the end of November, if you do not want the full package of Christmas or New Year then I recommend this 2 in 1 break, I prefer this one. We arrived at the Marine Hotel after a good run from East Midlands around 1100. Sadly on departing from the car and taking to the steps our Cousin mis footed herself and ended up falling on the steps (hotel was not at fault at all), realising they had broken bones in their leg and arm which necessitated a visit to the local Urgent Treatment Centre and finally got booked in at 2300 after visits to two hospitals.
On finally arriving back at the hotel we were met by the cheerful and friendly Millie who looked after us well, she had organised that meals would be available for us. In the meantime, the hotel manager Steph had arranged that our injured guest be allocated a room with easy access to the lift and that no stairs were involved. This welcome and organising is typical of the Marine Hotel and their customer care.
We have stayed here before and are returning guests to the Hotel which speaks volumes about the service we receive here the excellent customer service second to none, nothing is too much of a problem.
My advice is if there is an issue or you want to request something, please ask and if it is within the remit of the hotel they will do their upmost to accommodate you, eg the main course is not what you like then just ask and they will look at alternatives.
The staff at the Marine Hotel are second to none, they are the best asset the hotel has, they all appear happy with a smile and a cheerful disposition, and you can have a laugh with them, and nothing is too much trouble for them. Reception staff are more than happy to answer any questions you may have, even down to local directions.
On the entertainment side there is a variety of entertainers from good comedians who actually make you laugh, in a similar style to Peter Kay, singers with different styles of music, what is refreshing is that they do actually engage with the audience and take your requests and views into consideration.
Housekeeping is good at the hotel and our rooms were cleaned daily, bins etc emptied and all done with a smile as they say. Get to know your team as all too often they are unseen in the background.
Catering staff beaver away in the background to ensure food is served hot and to an excellent quality, there was a good variety of meals on offer during our stay and hand on heart we can say that the hot food was hot as were the plates, I would go as far as to say the staff excelled themselves with the food and it was presented in an excellent way.
If you are looking for a Hotel that is close to the amenities, has a seafront locality and everything is in easy reach of the Hotel may I recommend the Marine Hotel Paignton, we are regular visitors.

Marine Hotel Paignton We were on a 5 day stay with Grayway Coaches in mid February. It was a short holiday with themed evening meals: British, Indian, Italian and Chinese. On arrival at about 5pm we were welcomed with a Devon Cream Tea served with Coffee and Teas while our cases were taken up to our room. After being allocated our rooms 407 and 419 we got into lift to find the only options were Ground, Floor 1 and Floor 2. Very confused we had to ask a member of staff if the lift went to floor 4 and was told press 1 for floor 3 and 2 for floor 4. Perhaps a sign in the lift would help clarify this confusion Hotel location is good very central and within a 10 minute walk to the Harbour, Pier and Bus Station. Our bedroom and en-suite bathroom was quite small but recently decorated and fairly modern and acceptable for our short stay. It had all the facilities you’d expect, it was clean and warm. Our only criticism was the low water pressure in the shower which took a long time to run warm. Wi-Fi was only available in the public rooms on the ground floor with no reception in our bedroom. Our first evening dinner (Monday) was very average with typical hotel standard catering. They ran out of our choice of starters (fishcakes) and then ran out of cheesecake desserts so we had to choose other options. Tea and coffee is offered after dinner in the bar/lounge area. After dinner we were entertained by a very good female vocalist (Amanda) who sang a selection of songs through the decades. On Wednesday we had Wayne a singer/comedian who was both a good singer and very funny. Tuesday was a Indian themed dinner which was delicious, we started with Mulligatawny Soup accompanied by Onion Bhajis, Potato Pakoras, Poppadoms and Mango Chutney followed by Chicken and Spinach Masala, Bombay Potatoes, Pilau Rice and Side Salad. Dessert was Indian Rice Pudding. The Italian Menu on Wednesday was also excellent. We were on an all inclusive drinks package, the bar served Becks Lager, Boddingtons Beer, Smirnoff Vodka, Gordon’s Gin, Bell’s Whisky and Wine all included in our package, so thats pretty good. A criticism was the speed of service in the bar. The bar staff had to “multitask” disappearing to the restaurant sometimes leaving the bar unattended for ten minutes even after ringing the bell for service. I must mention Amy on Breakfast service who was polite, friendly and efficient. Overall the Marine Hotel is adequate for a short stay, the food quality did improve vastly after our first night but the speed of service needs improvement in the bar. Pros…Hotel location, Good Food especially the Indian and Italian menus, Good Entertainment. Cons…Sparse Fried Breakfast, Slow Bar Service after dinner, Poor Shower Pressure, No WiFi in Bedrooms. My Score would be 4 out 5 but good value for money and we enjoyed our stay at the Marine Hotel.

Booked a girls weekend with Brent Thomas coaches and ended up at the Marine hotel. After a warm welcome of cups of tea & coffee served by Ryan, who also went round checking if we had any problems and setting up the WiFi for us. We were soon able to go to our rooms.
We booked two rooms and both rooms overlooked the front, one room had a side window that also looked over the park. The rooms were clean, with a comfy bed and pillows, tea & coffee was provided with plenty of milk.
Food was excellent at both breakfast and dinner time, with a choice meat, fish, veg & cold choice, that had to be ordered in the morning.
The staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them. My friend like a bottle of water on the table for breakfast and every morning they remembered to put a bottle on the table. We found the hotel the friendliest hotel we ever been too
Entertainment was also excellent and we found no need to go out. With our bus driver doing bingo followed by a singer / comedian.
All four of us really enjoyed our stay with plenty of laughs and couldn't fault it

We returned to the Marine Hotel in May this year (Last week) this time accompanied by our 2 Teenage Grandchildren (16 & 18). We had adjoining rooms which made it easier etc. After the booking I requested a couple of changes due to a change in family dynamics and the changes were made without any fuss. My grandson has a limited diet and we were concerned that the hotel may not cope with this, how wrong could I be, he ate well and was consulted on a personal basis in this choice of menu. The hotel is not new to us and one of the main reasons why we choose this hotel is that the staff both front of house and non customer facing roles are excellent, when I say nothing is too much trouble, it is true. We did chat to a couple of staff who are in roles that are not customer facing and they were really good and chatty. I take the trouble to get to know the staff and hand on heart we can say that we know front of house staff by their given name as I feel it makes it more personal. The food on offer is normally prepared on the day and you are asked every morning to make your choice from the menu to ensure it is fresh and if there is something on the menu you may not like, you are normally offered an alternative, that does not happen in lots of hotels. The restaurant staff have a very efficient system in place to ensure you are not kept waiting between courses etc. The cleanliness of the rooms could not be faulted and our experience was that the rooms were cleaning as you would expect it yourself. The biggest asset the hotel has is that from the manager down there is an ethos that the customer comes first and they will try their utmost to make your stay a pleasant experience and will try and remedy any issues that may arise, again I stress they can only sort things out if guests tell them about it. Entertainment is provided 6 out of 7 nights plus on the non entertainment evening there is an option to play bingo or relax and chat, I know bingo is not for everyone, but you can win some money and it is really a bit of fun too. We have our August 2023 holiday booked and are really looking forward to it.

We stayed here as part of a coach holiday for 8 days and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was very good with generous portions and a good selection at each meal. Breakfast is served at your table and it is then that you have yo decide on your dinner in the evening. Service is fast and accurate. There is little waiting between courses. The evening meal consists of three selections for the first two courses and for a sweet there is a very wide choice One problem for disabled people is that there are numerous steps along the landing. We told them in advance and were provided with a room such that the access from the lift to our room was flat and this was important as we had a disabled scooter. In addition we needed a walk-in shower and his was provided There was entertainment each night and it seemed to get better as the week wore on. The magician in particular was very good. The singers did not have the amplification too loud so we could hear the songs and the music was tailored for our age group The bar was well stocked and the staff were all excellent and very helpful The hotel was very clean and the view from the public room was perfect. When we left the staff come out to wave us off. Would I return again YES, YES, YES A big thank you to all the staff for producing a memorable stay.

We stayed for 3 nights; would have stayed longer but storm Ciaran changed our minds! The staff are very pleasant, polite and caring which is something lacking in most of the hotels we have previously visited. Prior to our checking in I had a number of questions via email which were answered very quickly and very helpful. We stayed with our two dogs that were greeted in a very friendly manner by the staff and not treated as an inconvenience or nuisance that we have experienced in other hotels. The location of the hotel is perfect, a very short walk across the road to the beach, the pier, the town centre and train station. I cannot fault anything from the hotel and want to thank them for a wonderful stay. The price of the stay offers very very good value for money, we had half board and found the food very good and a varied choice.

The hotel is ideally situated bring directly opposite the beach and just a short walk into Paignton town centre. There is free parking in the small carpark but it might prove a challenge for very long cars. The hotel was quiet, clean, tidy and cosy and they know their market - folk who want a traditional hotel where you will be treated well and won’t go hungry. The staff make its place and the owners and management should be proud of the staff’s friendliness and efficiency. We will return for more of the same later in the year.

Despite the fact that the staff were extremely efficient and friendly, sadly our visit to this hotel was one of the worst we have experienced. On arrival at the hotel we were told that we had to order our evening meal by 4 pm, and that the meal would be of Indian cuisine. None in our party wanted what was on offer, and we were told we could choose an alternative such as salad or ploughmans. One of our group, who had salad for dinner, also requested a salad dressing. We were told that there were no salad dressings available, save for tartar sauce or mayonaise. We were given a twin room which was small and dingy. We found that there was a very low flow of water from the shower, the shower door would not close, and in attempting to close the shower door, the door came off its upper track and fell back into the shower. We also noted that the layout of bathroom taps were in an opposite position than the British standard for tap positioning. Furthermore we also noted that power sockets outside our room were clipped to the wall, and unprotected by a secondary sheathing. During the evening we were sat in the lounge area playing cards, when a member of staff came into the lounge and offered guests the opportunity to play Bingo. During one of our games of cards, the member of staff who was running the Bingo yelled across the room and told us to keep quiet. This was a rude and an unjust comment because we were not making any loud noises, and were not interfering in the games of Bingo in any way. We asked for a room change due to the poor condition of our room, and was provided with the only alternative twin room available. The room was very small and difficult to get around, but it was bright due to the decor. The couple who accompanied us on our trip to the hotel were also unimpressed with the hotel. On arrival in their room the waste bin was full of rubbish. and there were no toilet rolls in the bathroom. Although their room was large and comfortable, like us, they also thought the food provided at the hotel was extremely poor. As an example the bacon provided at breakfast needed a steak knife to cut it, and the fried eggs were rubbery. The hot water delivered to our table was also slightly tainted brown and had to be changed. During dinner the cold water delivered to our table tasted horrible, and had a strong odour of chlorine. A photographer came to our table at dinner and took photographs of us eating without asking our permission. We consider that this was an intrusion into our privacy and should be stopped.

Dear Mikee1112018, Thank you for taking the time to write us a review it is vital we receive both positive and negative feedback in order to improve as a business. I am pleased to hear that you found our staff extremely friendly and efficient. As you have explained, we were indeed offering a Indian & Italian themed menus, however you were indeed given additional choices not just a salad or a ploughman's like you have mentioned. Nothing we offered was to your taste, our staff went above and beyond offering additional choices, however we do not a buffet dinner like you had hoped. I can assure you all food is cooked fresh to order which is why we have a cut of time to pre order to ensure we are ready for service. If you had made us known at the time you were not happy with breakfast also, we could of always replaced this for you. The first room you had been allocated was a upgraded sea view twin room, with stunning sea views of Paignton seafront. I am aware you had a issue with your shower and thanked you ate the time for reporting it, this did get fixed that morning and we moved you to a additional twin room. I am sorry you felt you was being yelled at to be quiet whilst guest was playing bingo, i will speak to our bar team. Thank you for your feedback regarding photographer we will certainly pass this comment onto them. I am sorry your visit was not what you had expected and hope you find right hotel for what you are looking for.

This was our first time at the Marine Hotel Paignton and immediately we realised what we had been missing. On our arrival we received the accolade as the first guests through the door in 2021. Immediate help was offered with bags suitcases etc, many hotels wait to ask the question after they see you struggle.
It was a nice friendly welcome and got the distinct impression that we had made the right choice, smiles all round and everyone had a cheery disposition and you just felt that you would enjoy your stay.
As we were the first guests of the year the room was immediately available to occupy, we were shown to our rooms and given a good tour of the hotel and the do's and don'ts under the current Covid rules, basically in bar areas & restaurant you remove your masks and they were only required whilst moving around the hotel.
We were a bit apprehensive initially before arrival of what it would be like under Covid, but there was not need to worry at at all.
Hotel manager Nicola is a really cheery person and this rubs off on to the staff, we can honestly say that all staff head a really happy disposition and that can't always be said at some of the hotels we have stayed at in the past.
Our room was large and airy, had windows in the roof as well as normal windows and we really liked this as they made the room really light and was very clean and the cleanliness was of a high standard.
Breakfast is served to the table, this makes a really nice change from the usual free for all tussle of breakfast buffet that we have experienced at other hotels in the area. At breakfast you are asked to make you evening meal choice, this may seem odd but when you realise that the reasoning is that your food is freshly cooked for the evening meal and helps stop food wastage, which can only be a good thing. There is plenty of choice available and the Marine hotel caters for all tastes. Chef and his team go to great lengths to ensure everyone is happy with their meals etc
During our stay there was entertainment on for 2 of the 4 evenings, things getting back to normal, whilst the number of guests was not capacity all of us present had a good time and artistes interacted well and all joined in.
The majority of the staff were returning from Furlough and seemed to be happy to be back at work, this is a good testament to the management at the hotel. Talking of staff the way the Marine Hotel distributes the tips from guests is excellent all tips received are split up equally amongst the staff to ensure a fair distribute and everyone is appreciated.
Suffice to say that we were returning for a week in August and have booked for New Year too.
If you want a stay in a hotel that does cater for it's guests and will try and meet reasonable requests wherever possible this is the one for you and of course the added bonus is that it right on the sea front and a short walk from the main shopping area,
Thank you Team Marine

We booked this hotel using a Buy A Gift voucher. Dinner was included on both nights instead of the one night which was what our voucher stated which was good value.
The staff are very friendly and polite but they seem to be rushed off their feet and work long hours.
The hotel is large with rooms on several levels. It is very dated and in desperate need of modernisation. Our room was clean but the furniture and furnishings were very old. The pillows were thin and well used as were the duvets. The bathroom was clean but dated. The shower unit was stained yellow due to its age and the hose leaked. It took a while to heat up and had very little power.
There was assistive equipment (grab rail) in place in our bathroom with laminated paper signs stuck to the walls with blu tak reminding guests how to use it. There is a lift at the hotel.
We ate at the restaurant on the first evening. We were asked to chose our food on arrival at the hotel. The food appeared to be home cooked and tasted ok. There is only a half an hour slot for all guests to dine which is too short. Breakfast was very basic and no choice to what you could have with your cooked breakfast or how much of each item. No offer of fruit juice unless you chose it as a starter instead of cereal, yoghurt or fruit.
The communal lounge area leads on to a conservatory with cane furniture throughout. There is a small bar area and a stage but there was no entertainment on the Saturday and Sunday evening. There were 6 people in this area on the evening we sat there. The view of the sea front from the conservatory area was pleasant and the seats comfortable albeit deep and low which would make transfers from them difficult for those with mobility difficulties.
The hotel is in a great location. It is opposite a crazy golf course and the seafront. There are bars and shops a few minutes walk away. There is a bus stop that runs in summer months practically outside the hotel.
With so much competition from other hotels and B&Bs in the area, I hope this hotel can continue to keep going. It’s principals for guests are traditional and well meant but it’s appeal for guests to stay or return to the hotel will be poor for many.
