Inspired by the other positive trip advisor reviews, location and price, we were delighted to have stayed at the Cherwood Guest House for 2 nights. Hazel is truly the hostess with the mostess who we hit it off with straight away as she is originally from the same place as us, and she looked after everything brilliantly whilst we were there without any issues.

The hotel is perfectly placed with less than a minutes walk to the beach and local shops, and with cheap parking and access to bus route just a stone’s throw away. The hotel and bedroom was very clean and tidy with a sea view (in our room) and a general family atmosphere, which made the whole thing feel more like visiting old friends than being in a hotel. Breakfast is also very yummy. To put it into perspective, I said ‘thanks for having us’ when we left, which isn’t something I would usually say when checking out of a hotel!

Paignton itself really is one of the remaining unspoilt seaside towns that I have wanted to tick off the list for some time now, and I would thoroughly recommend staying at the Cherwood. We would love to come back and stay with Hazel and co again (and for longer) again in the future.

Jo and Martin, are the perfect hosts; attentive, humorous, hardworking and efficient. For their first season here, it's most impressive.
The room was well decorated, clean and very "home from home"
Breakfast is done efficiently, covid friendly and their system helps to reduce food waste.
The guest house is a few minutes walk from Paignton Pier, the Steam Railway and main station, plus the town centre, bus station etc.
This is a great location with so many costal walks nearby also Victoria Park is a pretty little bonus if you like a bit of greenery.
We stayed for 6 nights and cannot find fault. We look forward to staying again and highly recommend the Cherwood to anyone.

Thank you Jo and Martin for making our stay so special and showing how passionate you are about customers happiness. Flavio, 2 1/2 years old baby, had a great time with you at breakfast; thanks for not charging for babysitting :). Room and communal areas were spotless, everything looks fresh and clean, amazing location, always making sure that you'll never leave your table feeling hungry. Amazing experience that will leave good memories and will definitely be back!!!

What an absolute top notch, gem of a guest house. We had the absolute best time staying at Cherwood with two children in tow. We were blown away from the start with the most professional yet personal service we received on the phone when booking with Jo. On arrival we were all greeted warmly and we were amazed at Jo and Martins ability to remember everyone’s names. First impressions were simply wonderful in this immaculately, spotless, clean and well organised establishment. The room was kitted out with toiletries, towels and even had soft toys for the kiddies. We stayed in the family room which was spacious and comfortable with extra little touches that made us smile-a fan for the hot weather, notepad n pen and a personalised welcome card. There were lots of beachy bits to borrow too, which our children delighted in testing out.Breakfast was a hit with the whole family with a vast array of options, although you do have to preorder in advance for the following day. We ate like kings!(And Queens) Nothing was too much trouble and Jo made us all feel so welcome. Martin is now our childrens favourite chef and always came in to chat to the children each morning. The only downside to Cherwood is that there is no insight parking, but it’s well worth paying that little bit extra for the multi story car park which is literally across the road. It’s location is ideal with the beach a mere stones throw away and the shops n arcades very close by. Theres so much to do, you really don’t have to go far to have the best holiday. Jo and Martin are at hand with suggestions for trips out or local places to eat. They go the extra mile to help everyone.Honestly can’t fault them and send the biggest thanks for making our stay sooooo, so special.

We booked a family room for 3 nights and wished we could have stayed alot longer. On arrival we was met by Martin who was very friendly, helpful and informative although checkin wasn't supposed to be till 3pm we were asked the day before what time we would be arriving they made sure our room was ready early for us. Although the Martin and Jo have only had this place since March you can clearly tell they have vast experience in hospitallity. From Hand sanitiser on the key ring to a sweet jar on the landing for the kids (and me lol) They have definetly thought of everything and some. We had room 4 which had a large double bed and another room with bunk beds with a TV / DVD in each room. The rooms were VERY VERY clean. We had a great nights sleep. The ensuite was great with a few added bits and bobs for the ladies. The breakfast was superb with lots of choice it is a pre-order system which we are not normally keen on but if you do change your mind in the morning I am sure there would be no problem. They have a dog which is kept out of the way but Jo did bring him out to say goodbye to us at my son Ollies request. The beach and the town is now more than a 5 minute walk. A big THANK YOU to martin and Jo for making our stay exceptional. We will be back soon.

Recently spent a lovely weekend at The Cherwood for my Birthday Celebration. Personal touches including card, wine and chocolates were a lovely surprise. Rooms were lovely and comfortable and despite Covid restrictions, it was a very enjoyable stay. Social distancing and cleanliness was very well observed and we felt completely safe.
Arrangements for breakfast were very well organised and the breakfast itself was of a very high standard. Nothing was too much trouble for Jo and Martin - they are excellent hosts and you can tell they are passionate about The Cherwood. Thank you again - will definitely be back.

My husband, two children and I have just spent a week's holiday at the Cherwood and couldn't have had a more pleasant stay.
Jo and Martin are wonderful hosts, I always feel that when you book the right guest house, it almost feels like staying with family and you are made to feel at home. That is exactly what it feels like at the Cherwood and the children really enjoyed interacting with Jo and Martin, particularly my little girl who would bring things down to breakfast to show them.
The room was a good size, impeccably clean and a travel cot and high chair was provided for our 20 month old son.
There are plenty of breakfast options (the waffles were a big hit!) and also yoghurt, fresh fruit and cereal which is perfect for hungry little ones!
Little details were thought of like plates, bowls, cups and cutlery for the children at breakfast and even plastic cups for them in the room. My 3 year old daughter loved the teddies on the bed and the sticker books available for her to use.
Jo and Martin also kindly let us leave our buggy in the hallway, which really helped us.
It is extremely close to the shop and restaurants and there is a nice park just up the road with a play park with swings, slide etc.
A lovely, relaxing stay in a wonderful guest house that we wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

We stayed as a family of four in room 8. The room was modern, clean and a reasonable size. The kids loved the bunk beds. Breakfast was freshly cooked each morning and was lovely. The property was in a great location down a side street around 300 metres from Paignton Beach and Pier. Parking (which was pre arranged) was £4 per day on a nearby public car park. I would definitely recommend this accommodation.

We spent 10 nights at this excellent hotel just last week. Hazel and David couldn’t do enough for us during our stay.

On arrival, we were greeted by Hazel and were told of how things worked, including the social distancing at breakfast. We were also able to access our room straight away. All very efficient.
Hazel, also let my sister (who was staying at an apartment around the corner) store her bags until she, herself, could check in, which was really very kind.

We were in the large family room. Very clean, spacious and just what was required. The children absolutely loved having their own room and bunk beds. The room was cleaned and fresh towels and bedding was provided throughout our stay.

Breakfast was lovely each day, and on two occasions where the children slept in, Hazel and David were very accommodating and made the breakfast into a sandwich to take to our rooms.

On the day of departure we were offered snacks and drinks for our journey home, as we were leaving before breakfast, which was also very kind.

Location is perfect, walking distance to all amenities, including the beech, the pier, harbour, shops, bars and restaurants.

We would recommend this hotel to all, including couples and families. It really was a pleasure to stay at the Cherwood and hopefully we’ll be back soon.
