Got upgraded from the Ibis as it isn't finished but you shouldn't be able to book a room in the first place surely?.
Went to the bar as a treat and they had no guiness, no red wine, no rose wine, no Plymouth gin, no raspberry gin, no gin glasses so would you mind having it in a beer glass?
My next thought was what sort of upgrade was this and is this really a 4 star hotel?
We ordered 2 single gin & lemonades, charged £15 only to watch the barman put "freeway" lidl lemonade in our beer glass.
I was told that I had been given raspberry gin but in fact it was orange with a hint of raspberry which I found out later when complaining. What if I had an allergy to orange, I didn't know what was in my glass as I hadn't been told. I could have had an allergic reaction and this could have been serious. Nobody should be served something and not told what they have been given.
I have to say that I have never felt so ripped off and mistreated before, you expect to pay a little more in a hotel but seriously come on.
We spoke to Alex who listened to us, apologised and sorted everything out. She was very understanding and is extremely good with her customers so thanks Alex for your help on Sat 28th October.
Thank goodness for the kitchen and waiting staff the next morning serving breakfast who turned everything around for our stay.
As a Coeliac I find it hard to trust eating out but I had a lovely breakfast cooked fresh and gluten free toast cooked in the kitchen without contamination. I was well looked after and really did appreciate it especially after the night before.
How 2 sectors of the same establishment can differ so much is beyond me but I think management need to look into this and start making sure that their staff are properly trained and have all of the equipment they need to do their job efficiently.

Dear H9443SOkareng, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent experience at our hotel. We sincerely apologise for the inconveniences you encountered during your stay, and we appreciate your valuable input, as it helps us improve our services. We understand your frustration regarding the initial room upgrade situation. This was a result of some unforeseen circumstances, and we acknowledge that it should not have occurred in the first place. We're working on ensuring such issues don't happen again in the future. The issues you faced at the bar are certainly not reflective of the standard we aim to maintain. We are in the process of reviewing our beverage selection, and we have taken note of the specific items you mentioned that were unavailable. We also take your feedback about the drink presentation seriously. We understand how important it is to receive what you ordered in the right glass, and we'll be working with our staff to prevent such errors. Your point about allergen awareness is entirely valid. It is our responsibility to inform guests about the ingredients in their drinks, and we deeply regret the oversight in your case. We will reinforce our staff training on this matter to ensure every guest's safety and satisfaction. We are grateful for your kind words about Alex, who assisted you during your stay. She is indeed an asset to our team, and we are proud to have her. We will make sure she receives the recognition she deserves for her excellent service. It's heartening to hear that your breakfast experience was a positive one, and we are pleased that we could accommodate your dietary requirements. We take food allergies seriously and will continue to maintain high standards in this regard. Your observations regarding the discrepancy between different sectors of our establishment are duly noted. We are committed to rectifying this and ensuring that all our staff members are adequately trained and equipped to deliver the level of service our guests expect. Once again, thank you for sharing your feedback, and we hope you will consider giving us another chance in the future. We aim to provide a much-improved experience on your next visit. With best wishes Jason

Good location on the Esplanade Paignton almost opposite the pier, booked a Seaview room which was large and airy, very expensive to drink in the bar and a lot of dogs inside the hotel and at breakfast, charged £15 a day for parking(Booking .com say its free)and wasent told this at check-in. Good views from the front bedrooms very clean and very pleasant and helpful staff, breakfast was freshly cooked to order as the Bay Marie was broken and being fixed, no plates for toast and had to use bowls. So two negatives but overall a pleasant experience.

Dear stuartsG4097SE, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay at our hotel. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed the good location on the Esplanade in Paignton and found your Seaview room to be large and airy with excellent views. We appreciate your compliments on the cleanliness of the hotel and the pleasant and helpful staff. Your understanding regarding the freshly cooked breakfast due to the temporary issue with the Bain Marie is valued. However, we apologise for any inconvenience caused by the unexpected charge for parking and the misinformation regarding it being free on Booking.com. We will review our communication processes to ensure that all guests are provided with accurate information at check-in. Your feedback about the presence of dogs and the lack of plates for toast is duly noted, and we will address these areas for improvement. We're grateful for your overall positive review, and we hope to welcome you back for an even more enjoyable experience in the future. With best wishes Jason

We have just retuned from a wonderful 3 days at this hotel. We had a privileged room which had wonderful views across the bay. The bed was extremely large and comfortable. The hotel is clean and the facilities in the room included, had everything you cold need. Furthermore, shower gel shampoo, conditioner and body lotion were all provided. Dressing gowns and slippers are also provided. The room has a floor to ceiling window which unfortunately does not open and air conditioning has to be relied on. Our air conditioning was also a bit temperamental.

We arrived first thing in the morning and pleased that we were able to check in immediately. This was an added bonus as check in should be from 3.00pm. We were also fortunate to find a parking space as spaces are limited and come on a first come first served basis. Sadly the parking fee is 15 pound per night and if you should use you car you stand a chance of loosing your space.

As we booked through booking.com we were charged 12pounds for breakfast. It should have been 18 pounds. The breakfast was not as good as i would expect for the price. The hot food was only luke warm as it had been standing and not of the best quality. If you wanted eggs other than scrambled which looked awful then you needed to ask. I only found this out off another guest on the last day. Also cereal choice is limited. The rest of the buffet was all i can say was okayish. I was very surprised even shocked that no hand sanitiser is provided in the restaurant and buffet area. I would have thought this should be standard practice.

I will defiantly return, but make other arrangements for food. I would like to thank all of the friendly staff for giving us a pleasurable stay.

We arrived at 1.30pm and was told check in at 3 so we left our bags no problem. Came back at 3.15 room not ready until 4pm.
Paid for a superior room. Photos on website very misleading. Looks like you have floor to ceiling windows on The grass. You don’t. We were on the 4th floor with a window you can’t open. Lady in front of us thought the same as she had a dog and paid £850 as she thought it was ground floor. Very misleading photos. Had a shower went to use towel it was filthy covered in mud. We had a nespresso in room only 1 had one pod for 2 people Asked on way out that evening if we could have more than 1 and there was no biscuits. (Like a biscuit in the morning). Pods never arrived and apparently there was no biscuit delivery. Curtain is hanging off the pelmet.
Came back after. Long day out to have a shower and the towel they left this time was full of holes and ripped. So another trip down to reception and asked them to be replaced. No cold drinks were replenished in our room.
We are not normally people who complain but it is one thing after another. There has not been any sort of compensation offered not sorry have a drink. They just go oh no sorry!!
This is a 4 star hotel which we have paid over £300 to stay at and am very disappointed in the level of service and detail.
Wouldn’t mention it if I wasn’t already doing this review but beware of paying for a sea view yourll be kept awake by the constant banging from the funfair.

Not sure where to start. The decorations and furnishings are very nice. Nice outside area to sit. There was a fair directly across from it, that was never mentioned, although it did go on our first night. But the big storage containers are still there, they belong to the builders so not a pretty site.
We parked the car £15 a day. The room wasn’t ready so we waited one and half hours. We had a meal in the restaurant in the evening, but a couple did walk out as they had waited too long.
Next day we went to breakfast, it was a disaster, there were no orange juice, no cups,no coffee in the machine, no beans or eggs,no butter for the toast. 2 pastries, apparently there had been a coach party in and left nothing for anyone. The staff there was were very stressed. There’s no staff hardly. Tables weren’t cleared.
The following day after being out all day, came back at 4.30 to find the room wasn’t cleaned. I had no toilet paper, no tissues, no tea bags, no water, no dry towels, so going down to find the Manager, I spoke to Deputy Duty Manager and explained the trouble, he listened to what I had to say and told me the cleaners are there until 9 in the evening, which I found unbelievable. When I come back I want to relax and have a shower, I don’t want cleaners in so I asked for the things I needed to be bought to my room and cleaned it myself. The following day my room was cleaned earlier and to good standard, but the next day it was late afternoon again.
The following morning the Manager must of listened to what I’d said and he was on the floor at breakfast helping staff, which made a big difference, that was the first time I’d seen them smile and less stressed. You definitely need more staff for breakfast and cleaners. My final day was today and I’ve got home to find you’ve taken two lots of £75 so £150 out the bank for parking so had to get back on the phone and I’m waiting for a refund.
Maybe 🤔 it’ll improve but sorry it’s not for me.

Dear 453mystery, We appreciate you taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent stay with us. We sincerely apologise for the inconveniences you encountered during your visit, and we take your comments seriously as we are committed to providing the best possible experience for our guests. We're delighted to hear that you found our decorations and furnishings appealing, and we agree that our outside seating area offers a pleasant place to relax. We understand that the presence of storage containers near our property was not aesthetically pleasing. These containers are indeed related to ongoing construction, and we apologise for any disruption they may have caused during your stay. We regret that your check-in experience was marred by a wait, and we will review our processes to ensure that this does not happen in the future. The breakfast experience you described is certainly not up to our standards, and we apologise for the shortage of items and the stress experienced by our staff. Your feedback about the lack of availability and cleanliness of your room amenities is also concerning, and we will address this with our housekeeping team. We are pleased to hear that you noticed an improvement in our breakfast service when the Deputy Manager stepped in to assist. We are actively working on staffing levels and training to ensure a more consistent and pleasant dining experience for our guests. Regarding the parking charges, we apologise for any billing errors you encountered, and we are actively working to resolve this issue for you promptly. We appreciate your feedback and will use it constructively to make necessary improvements. We sincerely hope you reconsider and give us another opportunity to provide you with a more enjoyable stay in the future. With best wishes Jason

I stayed here on business on the 23rd August and the first pleasing thing was that there is more than adequate off road secure parking. From the moment I walked into the reception all the staff were friendly and professional. I stayed in room 251, and it was spotlessly clean, complementary biscuits and bottled water, both still and sparkling and tea and coffee. There were two comfy chairs, large flat screen TV and a large extremely comfortable bed with spotlessly clean linen.
The bathroom was large tiled floor to ceiling with a rain shower, and complimentary shampoo and shower gel. I ate my evening meal in the restaurant, and the service was first class, and the food was even better.
I then had a wonderful nights sleep, and awoke ready for my breakfast, and it didn’t disappoint.
There was everything available, freshly cooked and beautifully presented.
I would highly recommend this hotel if you stay for either business or pleasure.

I was to meet a friend and so decided on Paignton seafront due to three new bars opening (two in new hotels).

The Mercure replaced an old relic and is purpose built and sits on the Esplanade, overlooking The Green, Paignton Beach and Tor Bay.

Good level access through a nicely landscaped (and illuminated) terrace and come in via Reception.

Bar is open to the public and has a really nice environment about it. Nicely laid out into formal areas and lounges with a well stocked bar. Friendly staff were attentive and whilst quiet, staff quickly cleared away plates and glasses.

£6 for a pint of draught Devon Rock (£3 1/2 pint) it was really nice looking out.

Looks great (and busy) on the terrace on nice days.

Yes, a chain hotel, but certainly is a welcome change from the tired old establishments that still remain.

There are a number of great long-running bars as neighbours and you can see
where they’ve invested.

Underground parking for guests on site. Really enjoyed our drink there.

Customer Service was excellent

Hotel has been recently built and both the rooms and public spaces were spotless

Breakfast at £18 was expensive but the restaurant prices were comparable to high-end eateries in Paignton

We used Paignton as base to explore nearby towns such as Totnes, Darmouth and Brixham.

I would recommend buying a £6.50 all day bus ticket and visit the key attractions.

For sea food I would recommend Brixham, expecially the Rockfish restaurant. Fresh fish, excellent service and great views.

We had an enjoyable two night break in Devon.

Travelled up my train which was more expensive than the hotel room even on an advanced single ticket.

Avoid the hotel if you must have parking and your rooms cleaned.
Lock your luggage in your room and keep your receipt.

Booked 2 rooms, family stay.
Parking. Avoid if you must have parking.
As a person with limited mobility, we needed parking, which was 1 of our main criteria for selecting this hotel. The hotel claims there's parking. In fact, it's limited to around 50 cars when there's 150 rooms. I had to park away from the hotel and walk.
Key cards not working. We went out for the evening. When we returned our key cards wouldn't work for both the rooms. My son went to reception and when he returned some 30mins later, he said he got delayed as there were lots of people with the same problem.
Attempts to overcharge. I paid the full amount when we checked in, as is the usual case. However, when checking out the receptionist said we have underpaid. I challenged this and asked her to check their records but she wouldn't and asked me for evidence of amount paid, which I provided. I queried if I had booked drinks, room service etc then it was likely I would not have picked up their attempts to overcharge.
Housekeeping not to be trusted. As my wife suffers from severe OCD and so needs everything clean, as we were going out in the morning, I approached the duty housekeeping manageress in her office and asked for our rooms to be cleaned and gave her our room number. She said they would be. When we returned that evening, nothing had been done. Why say you going to do something if you had no intention of doing so.
When checking out, we complained to the duty manager. He dismissed everything we were saying claiming and didn't seem interested at all.

We stayed at this hotel in November with our dog Coco
From the moment we arrived at the hotel was amazing the staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you the room from modern so clean and spacious and had a stunning views of the sea.

we had dinner and drinks at the hotel which I highly recommend the queue to the food is so tasty they Have a excellent selection and the restaurant team are really helpful. My partner is gluten-free and They had lots of different taste the options for him.

Martin the restaurant manager is an excellent restaurant manager with his team and is very hands-on and ensures you have an excellent dining experience.

There was a load of selection of breakfast which was kept locked up and hot and the food is really tasty.

This hotel is dog friendly, It is a really modern nice dog friendly hotel which I highly recommend you visit with your dogThere is loads to do in the surrounding area with your dog. my main part that I loved was this hotel is on the beach which is still dog friendly friendly just across the road the beach is there.

10000/10
