Well don't know where to begin .we rang widened touring park to see if they were dog friendly they assured us they were .we asked can the dog go into the restraint and bar and pool area . They stated as long as the dog was on a lead (fare enough). We booked on this understanding for 4 nights as it was my wife's birthday. When we arrived we approached the reception only to find a lady sat in the door way on a old round table. She had to find out booking from a hand written note book and asked if we had paid. Surly they should know as we paid inn full before arrival. She stated there was a shop which was a cluttered disused shop with alsorts lying around she stated if you want anything from the shop I will fetch it extremely unusual as you can't go into the shop . Food was even stranger you had to book your meal in the afternoon and pick it up at a set time of 6pm it would be served in containers and there was no where to eat. So you had to take it back to your caravan .as the non existing restaurant was a make shift kitchen adjoined to the non existent shop. She then said before I had even got on site (quote) if you not happy and have complaints don't tell trip advisor tell me so I can sort it . Back to dog friendly. Ther was no provisions for dogs ,only a so called dog walk which was situated in a dark steep slippery woodland path to an extremely steep incline field.(if you were under 25 years you may be fit enough to use the terrain. The dog friendly bar did not exist as when we tried to use it as advertised we were told no dogs allowed.same for the pool area. Same as the club .so in fact no where to go and enjoy for sport or just a quiet drink. The dog was also only allowed to walk half of the camp site as half the site was signed no dogs in this area so there was a very limited area to go . Ablutions. You had a distinct lack of area to take your waste and the facilities that were old and in disrepair and even lack of toilet rolls would you believe The elson area had no hand sanitizer in the bottle all week. We only seen one person on the site from the team once and we spoke to seasonal pitch users they said there was an extreme lack of maintenance and it had not developed in standard for the last 5 years .in fact when we were there two season pitch holders told us they were leaving as standards were so bad . This was evident when we looked down at the children's play area which look so run down even dad's army would not have used it for training the home guard I was expecting Captain mannering to pop out.. The owner said in defence we are not commercial and all the facilities we offer you are not charged for your stay .(What facilities I asked). We are fun loving caravan users and have been caravaning for twenty years. We have seen some fantastic sites both family run and commercial. Over our time but I have never seen such a unbelievable shambles. They are extremely far from dog friendly and to be extremely honest I still don't know what we paid out £235. For 4 nights for . I still can't believe they said don't complain to trip advisor and told us even before we entered our pitch about complaints . This only makes me feel we are not the first to complain. This is not about bitching because of no dog facilities.but please don't waste you money . You will sadly only see the column I have written is a fair description of wide end touring park and as the name suggests make a wide swerve from this site .

Reading andrews b comments is like staying at another venue completely we stayed for 10 nights and never had a bad experience except with the groundsman who has a grudge against his job he thinks it’s ok to ride round on scooters when kids are about he stood talking in the pool with me for over an hour trying to convince me to put bad reviews on social media but my experiences and my kids experiences were not bad staff were friendly and toilets and showers were clean in a modern block at the top end of the park but not at the bottom near the pool we’re they need updating whoever cleaned them on a regular basis needed to be shown how to clean assuming they weren’t cleaned by the same people as those at the top end. . The shop area is an office amongst it a takeaway we’re the food is good and customer service was good and food was hot when it arrrived bar was busy on bingo nights as you would expect but only waited a bout 7-8 mins when we first arrived. It’s only a small bar but adequate for the park with seating outside if you don’t want to be part of the bingo clan. I have 2 teenagers and they loved the pool and were served at the kids end of the bar by a young girl who was capable of dealing with a queue 2 blokes behind bar most of the time and kept up with the punters once the initial rush was over one sold bingo tickets and called the bingo and then there were the entertainment which was good apart from Monday when they had a kids entertainer who did exactly the same both weeks. But did make the kids feel welcome. Overall rating of the park was good and we were not hassled by the owners or the staff apart from jobs worth man on a scooter who really thinks he’s important but thankfully he tells us he’s only there this year so it will be safe to return next year

Want to go on holiday and just sit around getting pissed and not have to watch your kids, allowing them to run around like an unsupervised rowdy mob of hooligans EVEN at 11:30 at night every night? Then this is the place for you. NOT for families with young children or for camping! The facilities are dated and dirty, the grounds unkept, immune to tent pegs and uneven with some families having to set up tents on a 30% gradient hill! There are brambles and Holly trees all over so expect to get stabbed and cut to pieces because there appears to be no groundskeeper maintaining these or removing them from the floor. There are roads everywhere where no one enforces a slow speed limit meaning you cannot let little ones play or take your eyes off them for two seconds and tents are pitched close to these roads, as they have tried to squeeze in as many pitches as humanly possible. It’s so cosy you’ll want to take protection incase you slip into your neighbour accidentally in the night! Let’s hope no one loses control of their cars either, speeding that close to the tents! There is apparently a shop onsite that you are not allowed in because they are still attempting to enforce the use of face masks in all public spaces even though they acknowledge that they can’t. The pool area isn’t terrible though but is very deep with the shallow end being 1m deep so again, not suitable for little ones.

The site, despite being quite basic, was a perfect base to explore North Devon. Really impressed with the size of our pitch, which comfortably fitted a touring caravan, small tent, 2 cars and still had ample space for 6yo to play and for us to sit out during the day/evening. Swimming pool was clean and perfect size and was rarely too busy. My only main gripes were the closures of the main toilets and shower blocks between 11am and 1pm, not too much a cause for concern, but on a couple of days it was a mild inconvenience. Also, I think the club house could do with a little modernisation and a little more entertainment. That being said, we didn't venture over much, instead heading out most evenings. I wouldn't pick it as somewhere you could spend all day, every day if you have kids (apart from the pool, there is very little for them), but it is a perfect base. Paignton is only 10 minutes drive with Torquay and Brixham only 15/20 minutes. We even managed a trip to Port Isaac which only took 90 minutes, but Bude and Exeter would only take an hour.

So disappointed with our trip here in Aygust 2021. Had been told that they had no trace of our booking after numerous emails and phone all from us. Wondered how they still had pitches. Another example of tents being second class citizens on campsites. Pitches crammed together down a hill, road with lots of road noise behind. Told where our pitch started and ended but people both sides had camped into our pitch. So close people's snoring kept me awake. Toilets and showers awful. Several toilet locked from inside, resulting in queues especially when the bar was open. Told this was for covid restrictions????? Urinal out of order for several days. Saw the same squashed moth on the door for a week. Showers dribbled out cold then warm then cold water, more water was coming from pipes underneath than the shower head. Found out by chance after 8 days that there is another toilet and shower block in the middle of the statics up by a 'danger do not enter 'farm entrance. Asked why nobody tells you about this to be fobbed off. Pool area neglected with lots of uneven dangerous slabs . Shop shut off, so you have to order from the door, takeaway closed midweek. Bar something from the 1970s, and packed . This site seriously needs to invest some money on some basic maintenance and modernising. Sorry, would not recommend or return.

I actually booked this site back in Feb 2021 for a August holiday with my kids. After numerous phone calls to the site, being fobbed off saying they will take the deposit and send booking confirmation or they had lost my booking and will process it again , also ignoring my emails in the months leading up to August. I decided to book elsewhere so my children cold actually have a holiday.A week before I was due to travel to my now choosen destination, widend called me and said they was wondering if I still wanted my original booking... very unprofessional. Using the excuse that the lady in charge of bookings had now left and they was sorting though the mess. Personally think they overbooked the site this summer hoping original bookings went abroad and they could then use reserve list. I Understand they have lost money through pandemic, but not to play with families summer holidays like that. Book at your own risk!

We booked at this site last minute and it was the best choice we made! Made to feel welcome from the start, the park is super clean all round, food from the cafe take away was amazing and huge portions! All staff was friendly and so helpful, they work there socks off keeping the place running as well as there farm and kennels near by, the swimming pool and area was clean at all times, they made you feel part of the widend family by the end of our week, I have no complaints what so ever and because of that we have rebooked for next year and looking to get a seasonal pitch too! Well done to julie and team for everything you do! Can’t wait to see you next year x

Had a lovely time at Widend campsite. The staff were very friendly & inviting. The campsite was clean, there was Covid restrictions in place and hand gel stations which made myself and family feel safe. Lovely play area which was used by all the children including our 5 year old. We used the swimming pool once and again in clean and deck chairs available. Brilliant location for explore the English riviera. We had day trips to Paignton, Torquay, Brixham and some national trust spots. It’s a relatively busy site, which is fantastic for busy families, communal gatherings etc. Yet if you did want a quote trip I would suggest ringing ahead as the staff were very helpful and they could probably look to ensure your pitch is in the right setting. We were by the park, which worked well for us as our kids could play with us watching from outside the tent. Yet the park is busy til dark- equally all kids were sensible with noise level (we have a 3 month old and she slept through everything). Happy camping!!!
