Style, character & facilities we would rate a 9/10. Based on life's true luxuries, a warm friendly welcome, knowledgeable advice. A great hearty English breakfast with quality smoked back bacon and black pudding and a big Bodum of proper Italian coffee ( we asked after the great taste)
There was privacy when you needed it and conversation when we felt convivial.
Style and interior decoration of our room - Primley Park - interesting story behind the name) provided by the owners was fun and quirky.
Fab little touches. Fluffy Bathrobes and slippers in the luxury bathroom. Coffee maker and homemade Flapjacks with a chocolate base in a cookie jar! No sad little biscuit in a wrapper here. And so we can go on. Loads of nice personal touches everywhere. Like a fridge provided for guests own refreshments. Really cool!
The best bit must be the location. 10/10. A three minute walk to Goodrington beach with its multiple facilities, Coastal walks. Pedaloes. Rentable Sun loungers, beach huts and deck chairs. A Blue flag beach in a bay where we actually saw people bathing.
Safe for toddlers and children.
More exciting are water skiing and ringo rides.
The facilities at the adjacent Quay West Youngs Park was still out of action due to Covid but offers water slides, flumes etc with crazy golf and bumping boats.
Literally just up the road a few minutes away by car is the Paignton Zoo and there is a Steam Train from Paignton to Dartmouth.
Excellent cold beer and cheap eats was on offer at the Brewers Fayre next door. We preferred the local seafood restaurants and found good value for money & choice along the beach front restaurants.
We stumbled across this place and what a find.
We arrived covid weary & left after a 4 day stay feeling refreshed and recharged. For sale was 2 new fluffy bathrobes that we bought for £26 each. What a bargain. And a free recipe provided by Mij for flapjacks with a chocolate base. Personally we think the flapjacks and quirky interior of Room9 deserved a receive a special mention.

We spent a week at Earlston in a lovely room. Quiet, cosy and very clean. The owners Aiden and Mij were very welcoming as was their daughter Ruth. Nothing is too much trouble. We had an excellent breakfast each day socially distanced in the newly decorated Dining room. Delicious locally sourced food ,brilliantly cooked and served by Aiden. There is also a well stocked bar available in the evenings. They have put in place all facilities to keep Covid safe , hand sanitizer at entrance , plenty of anti bac soap ( Carex ) in rooms and fresh milk is available for the refreshment tray on request. Everywhere is spotless .We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay and will be back.

Aidan and Mij's philosophy is that the hotel doesnt just 'allow' dogs, but it actively welcomes them and this was certainly the case. As soon as we walked into our room we could see that in the little extras like the dog bowl, jar of Bonios, dog bedspread and towel and roll of poo bags. There was an enclosed garden area where Nala could have a run with Dexter!

The room was spotlessly clean and beautifully and tastefully decorated. I wanted to take the painting on the wall home! There were coffee and tea making facilities and a little jar with homemade brownies in, cut above the biccies in a plastic wrapper! There was a flat screen Smart TV with access to Netflix.

The dining room was light and airy with a jolly seaside theme. Every precaution had been taken to be Covid safe with sanitiser in several places, face masks worn in communal areas etc. The breakfast was to die for and the sausages - wow!! On our last day, Mij came out to the car with some chocolate based flapjacks in a foil for us as she had only given us one not two sausages for brekkie! They were gorgeous and a good snack for our long journey home!

The hotel is in walking distance of the beaches and the steam train. We got the train to Dartmouth - a lovely day out! Some parts of Paignton are a bit dodgey but on the whole our visit was lovely and you just walk through the more 'Blackpool' type areas if they're not for you! Absolutely loved our stay and would not hesitate to come back if in the area again.

I recently booked rooms here for myself and 9 friends getting together to play golf and go canoeing on the Dart, and every single one us had nothing but praise for this fabulous little hotel and its wonderful, attentive staff.
The rooms were all spotless and beautifully presented, the breakfasts were epic, and we were all made to feel extremely welcome.
You might find other hotels that can match it in terms of rooms and facilities, but service this good is extremely rare - especially when you factor in the amazing value for money.

Aidan and Mij are a wonderful couple who were the kind of hosts that make you ready to say bye to chain hotels that have lost their soul in search of customer service somewhere along the way.

The breakfast and their attention to detail got better as they got to know us and our 14 month old...who warmed to their charms despite the obvious hampering of face masks at such a time as this.

Our toddler loved seeing their dog from the window and would have loved the up close encounter if not for being so small!

The area and views are lovely and the recommendations from Aidan were helpful as we had little clue of what the weather was really like for the locals and not according to Google! We had a mix of weather but with our waterproofing gear we tackled wind and rain before the sun broke through in the second half of our week long trip. Although one day it rained about 8 different times, the other days were fairly English staple.

I got to see the unique rooms up close as photos don't do them justice I feel. Such character and love poured into each room makes me excited to experience more than a few.. Maybe when our toddler can talk and give opinions of things... Not far off mind!

Very accommodating for dogs if you're an owner you can feel rest assured.

Top stuff from a top family!

Aidan the owner was very friendly and helpful with advice about places to visit and eat in the local area. We had a lovely, comfortable large room with a seaview, lots of storage and a wonderful huge freestanding bath. The hotel is very clean and eco friendly with bamboo toilet rolls, tissues and we even had our own recycling bin in our room. We were able to collect stainless steel flasks of fresh milk from a fridge downstairs to make tea and coffee in our room, so no annoying plastic containers of long life milk here.
The breakfasts were well cooked and tasty, and you ordered the night before exactly how many bacon, sausage etc you required.
We parked at the hotel and could walk into Paignton or Goodrington sands a few minutes in either direction. We enjoyed our holiday.

We had a lovely stay here.Nothing was too much trouble for Aidan & Mij in keeping us comfortable & happy. The breakfast was delicious, the room was so comfortable ,beautifully decorated (as all the rooms at Earlston House) and quiet & peaceful so much so that on one cold & rainy day it was difficult to drag ourselves out of this very pleasant room. We shall definitely be back.

Just returned from our 2nd visit to Earlston House and it certainly exceeded our expectations again. The rooms are spotless and very spacious, and the helpful staff are always available should you need anything and the home cooked breakfast is totally amazing.
The accommodation is within walking distance of Paighton beach, the pier and plenty of restaurants.
The hotel has off road parking and the room we had, had magnificent views of the sea.
We would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning in the near future.

We booked (myself and hubby), a last minute stay here due to viewing guest houses to purchase as a business, the owners Mitch and Aidan were the perfect hosts, friendly and advising us regarding local businesses for sale, the room itself was very clean and in good order, with a nice modern bathroom, and comfy bed, with a stunning sea and coastal view, all in all a bit of a find, breakfast was great, very tasty and we will definitely stay again when viewing properties in the area, Aidan even went as far as working us out travel time from Paignton to St Austell. Lovely hosts who seem to have adapted well to the new norm of social distancing, with all interactions keeping this in mind. All in all a safe and lovely visit.

We arrived quite late last Friday, around 11pm, because of the traffic, but Aidan was waiting with a great smile: gave us the keys or our room, which was the Berry Pomerade, showed us around and surprisingly we found an extra bed for our dogs plus cookies. It was a very pleasant welcome. He also sent us a message while we were still driving there about the breakfast booking and the food order, which was so much appreciated! The room was absolutely lovely with a view of the bay, bed was super comfortable(one of our dogs, Baloo, decided to sleep with us too LOL) and they gave us complimentary towels ans bathrobes. Not to mention, Breakfast was delicious on both mornings! We went outside with our dogs and their black labrador Dexter welcomed me too, he was such a cutie boy! Parking was included in the stay just right in front of the hotel entrance. For the whole stay, both Aidan and Mij were friendly and always smiling, we really felt pampered. The hotel is also 10 minutes walk from the dog friendly beach. It's sad that only Mij managed to meet our dogs but doesn't matter because we will definetely book again! Thank you so much Aidan and Mij and hope to see you soon xx Noemi and Steven
