Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here in August 2023, but only for 4 nights - which was a real shame, because it was the very best hotel of our holidays (and we had 3 more). It would definitely have been much better to stay more nights here and shortening the stay at other hotels. Why? Everything was perfect from the beginning to the end and far exceeded our expectations.
We were greeted very warmly by Bill and he helped us carry our luggage upstairs.
The rooms were very clean and nicely furnished, the breakfast selection was varied. We could also choose between various starters or juices which were then brought to the table - a great service. The breakfast was excellent and lovingly prepared.
The Hotel owner, Bill, was our host/barkeeper at the Hotel Bar too and he did a marvellous job.
There were enough private parking lots at the Hotel. The location is very good, the beach is right next to it, which is perfectly accessible by lift. I would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants to spend a holiday on the Isle of Wight because the price/quality ratio was also very good.
We would come back at any time.

Our 8th year in a row visiting the Hambledon Hotel. Bill & Jackie are very welcoming, nothing is too much for them. We stay B&B, the breakfast is very filling with fruit juices, cereals, toast a choice of main breakfast with anything from a full English to scrambled eggs, croissants, kippers & tea or coffee. There is a well stocked bar for pre dinner drinks & then evening drinks. The rooms are very comfortable all with en-suites, there is tea & coffee making facilities in each room. The hotel is situated a couple of minutes walk from the beach. There are plenty of hand sanitizers around the hotel & Bill encourages everyone to use these when entering the hotel, dining room & lounges Jackie is regularly cleaning the door handles, banisters & all areas regularly touched by people. We have already booked again for next year.

Myself and a friend booked a last minute break to this hotel and we were not disappointed. The hotel was very clean throughout and Bill and Jackie were fully compliant with the current COVID-19 guidance. There was hand sanitizer available upon entry to the hotel and in other areas of the building. Our room was very clean and tidy and the beds were really comfortable. The hotel has a private car park and the beach and shops are in walking distance. We booked bed and breakfast for our 4 night stay. There was a good choice of breakfast which included cereal and full English. This was cooked to order by Jackie and was fresh, hot and delicious. Bill and Jackie are a lovely couple and great hosts which made our stay more pleasant.

Yet another wonderful week in the Isle of Wight staying at the Hambledon Hotel. Owners, Bill and Jackie, have done so much to make staying there during these surreal times feel safe. Cleanliness, food, and comfort were all up to the usual high standards. We didn't think we would be able to get away this year so it was great to get away to a place we felt comfortable and assured that guidelines were being followed. We are regular visitors to the Hambledon Hotel and next year will be no different. See you soon Bill and Jackie - looking forward to another great week and more rubbish jokes!

Yet another excellent holiday in the Isle of Wight staying at the Hambledon Hotel. The owners Bill and Jackie have ensured that the hotel is covid friendly and there are plenty of hand sanitisers available. You are encouraged to use these prior to entering the hotel and the dining room. Jackie is always cleaning down the bannister and all other touch areas. The rooms are spotless and very comfortable. The food is excellent, varied and plentiful. If you are looking for a place to stay which is inviting, comfortable, hospitable and with the sea front and local shops within walking distance then look no further this is the place to be.

This was our 11th year visiting The Hambledon Hotel, we’ve already booked for next year. From the minute you arrive you’re made to feel very welcome . The rooms are all modern & very comfortable, all are en-suite, there’s well stocked tea & coffee making facilities in your room that are refreshed daily. The beds are very comfortable, we took our 13 year old granddaughter who had her own room but the way it’s designed made it easy to turn it into a 2 bedroom family room.
Each day starts with a delicious breakfast, you can start with cereal or fresh fruit followed by the main which ranges from a full English, boiled poached or scrambled eggs croissants & many more choices, toast, tea, coffee & fruit juice, breakfast really sets you up for a day relaxing on the nearby beach, walking the many trails or shopping.
The Hambledon is set in a perfect location with sandy beaches only a few minutes walk in one direction & the village the other direction, a 10 minute walk away is the train station so you can travel up to Ryde or get off & join the steam train.
There’s a well stocked bar where the guests can enjoy a drink
Bill & Jackie are the perfect hosts & are only too happy to recommend places to eat. What Bill doesn’t know about the island isn’t worth knowing, he’s full of useful information to make your holiday more enjoyable. I would recommend friends & family to stay here.

Just returned from 10 days staying with Bill & Jackie at the Hambledon hotel, yet again they made our stay with them enjoyable. The Hambledon is a 5 minute walk to the sandy beach or the old village with lots of different shops. We stayed B&B, the breakfast really sets you up for the day exploring with lots of different choices from a full English to smoked haddock & lots in between also with plenty of cereal, toast, tea, coffee & fruit juices, I heard from lots of other guests that the evening meals are also amazing & cooked freshly by Jackie. In the evenings there is a well stocked bar where it’s lovely to sit & chat with other guests finding out what they have done that day & making lots of new friends. The Hambledon is a small family run hotel that is spotlessly clean & comfortable. We enjoyed our stay so much we have booked again for next year. If anyone would like to stay here I would recommend booking early as this is a very popular hotel that gets booked up very quickly.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at the Hambledon, H/B with our 8 year old son The hotel is spotless, breakfast and dinner was great with several choices for each course. The owners Bill & Jackie couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a great holiday. We have stayed here several times over the last 15 years and always come back because of the warm welcome. They have excellent knowledge of the island and always keen to offer advice for things to do. Thoroughly recommend.

This hotel has everything you’d expect a good hotel to offer, from clean, comfortable rooms and shared lounge/bar to reliable Wi-fi connectivity. Everything it says on its website is accurate. Covid measures are thorough.
However, what you don’t learn from the website, but you do see consistently in the reviews, is the calibre of the hosts, Bill and Jackie. They have a rare gift for making each guest feel valued. Their knowledge of walks on the island, of all lengths and degrees of difficulty, is thorough. Nothing is too much trouble for them and their team. The menus are varied, the food beautifully cooked.
For those who might be put off Shanklin by the hills, it’s worth noting that the Shanklin Shuttle bus service stops right outside the hotel.

Just returned home from yet another amazing stay here. Bill, Jackie and all the staff are happy, friendly and make you feel right at home. We stayed B&B and I cannot fault the breakfast at all, it is delicious with plenty of choice. The bedrooms are a light and spacious, with very comfortable beds.
The location is close to the beach, town, bus and train stops so you have easy access to the whole island. We cannot wait to return next year.
