Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just returned from a lovely few days at this lovely little B&B. Hosts were fantastic, made us feel very welcome. Had lots of great information to offer and always cheery and friendly when saw us around the property. Rooms & property clean throughout. Loved the decor. Breakfast had plenty to offer and was very tasty. Our only issue was the shower wasn’t very powerful, other than that we were extremely happy with our stay and would most definitely return!

Hard to say a just few good words about the Royson and the owners as there are so many good things to say. Rooms spotless and nicely decorated. Breakfast great. Owners very friendly. They certainly go out of the way to provide everything. Beach towels, brollies etc etc. Highly recommended.

Sharon and Nigel were amazing hosts. They went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. The children's play room is fabulous and kept the kids entertained for hours! Rooms are clean and spacious. There are many breakfast choices which are served fresh and delicious. We highly recommend staying at The Royson.

What a fabulous place to stay! Nigel and Sharon are lovely and very welcoming. Their B and B is just delightful. We stayed in room 7 on the top floor with our two young children and the room had everything we needed and more!! Hot chocolate with marshmallows was a lovely touch (being a non tea or coffee drinker, I often don’t have anything) and squash too. Everything is clean and tidy and beautifully decorated throughout. USB ports in the plug sockets in the room were handy along with shaver sockets in the ensuite to charge an electric toothbrush. Soft dressing gowns were also in the room plus a hairdryer and nice little touches like pocket tissues and dettol wipes left on the dressing table. There is a games room downstairs and it’s in good order too - too often games rooms can be shabby or broken but that’s not the case here. There is a pool table, foosball table and magnetic darts which our children loved. There is an additional play area for kids at the front of the B and B with board games, Lego etc. We had no issue with parking directly at the front of the house and it is only a 15 min walk down the coastal path to Shanklin beach (though it’s not a walk for those less mobile as it is quite hilly.) We borrowed buckets, spades and a beach mat from the B and B as well as beach towels which is so handy when you don’t want to bring all those things with you on holiday when it’s only a few days away. The breakfast here was delicious with something for everyone and it felt like nothing was too much trouble to just ask. Our children enjoyed the waffles and pancakes. The eggs - both poached and scrambled - were spot on every day!! They have a great system where you circle what you want for breakfast on a laminated sheet the night before and leave it on reception by 8pm. Cereal, yoghurt, fruit and toast were all on the side in the morning to help yourself too. We had such a great stay here and would highly recommend The Royson to anyone. Shanklin is a really lovely place to base yourself for an IOW trip and we will most definitely come back and stay here again in the future. Thank you Nigel and Sharon for a lovely stay!

Depressing little place. Something a bit off about the owners. I witnessed them being rude to some poor guests. Food bland. Odd vibe. Apart from that location lovely and you can't fault the Isle of Wight for things to do.

Response from Nigel Hunt, Owner at The Royson GuestHouse Book Direct
Responded 13 May 2022
Not sure quiet how to respond as we cannot find a booking relating to your name and as it took you six months from the alleged date of stay seems a little off to me

We were made to feel very welcome by both Nigel & Sharon, a lovely friendly couple. Excellent breakfast on all 4 mornings we were there and Nigel even helped to jump start my car on the first morning due to me leaving the cool box plugged in overnight, doh! Room 5 is cosy but well equipped with everything you could need. The games/family room had a fridge we could use (to keep my beer in mainly) and they even allowed us to bring a takeaway (we had it delivered there actually so maybe not technically a takeaway) in to eat in the dining room using crockery and cutlery supplied by our hosts. We would certainly consider staying here again, thanks Nigel & Sharon from John & Kim.

We had 3 nights here in October and have actually just checked out. Cannot fault the hospitality or service from Nigel and Sharon - what fantastic hosts! Breakfast has a wide range of cooked breakfasts, cereals and delicious big bowls of superfood fruit. The rooms are very comfortable and we loved the honesty pot in the games room. The local knowledge and recommendations of places to visit and eat was really helpful and they both are super helpful. Great location, clean and definitely worth staying at. We will definitely go back, not only because we promised a night of drinks with Sharon and Nigel but also because the whole experience was lovely. Thank you both x

A lovely clean, welcoming establishment. Sharon & Nigel are simply the best hosts, helpful, entertaining & friendly. Room was spotlessly clean, facilities are more than we have experienced elsewhere & the breakfast is whatever you choose, well presented & delicious. I feel that I have made new friends & certainly look forward to returning to this lovely place!

Sharon and Nigel are the most perfect hosts and the welcome you receive is so warm and friendly. Cleanliness is absolutely spot on, breakfasts are amazing (especially the fruit pot!),beautifully decorated biscuits (nice little touch by the very talented Sharon) in your room on arrival but ultimately nothing is too much trouble as Nigel and Sharon aim to please every step of the way. We will be returning next year as this is now a regular date in our calendar. An absolute jem!
