What a fabulous place to stay! Nigel and Sharon are lovely and very welcoming. Their B and B is just delightful. We stayed in room 7 on the top floor with our two young children and the room had everything we needed and more!! Hot chocolate with marshmallows was a lovely touch (being a non tea or coffee drinker, I often don’t have anything) and squash too. Everything is clean and tidy and beautifully decorated throughout. USB ports in the plug sockets in the room were handy along with shaver sockets in the ensuite to charge an electric toothbrush. Soft dressing gowns were also in the room plus a hairdryer and nice little touches like pocket tissues and dettol wipes left on the dressing table.
There is a games room downstairs and it’s in good order too - too often games rooms can be shabby or broken but that’s not the case here. There is a pool table, foosball table and magnetic darts which our children loved. There is an additional play area for kids at the front of the B and B with board games, Lego etc.
We had no issue with parking directly at the front of the house and it is only a 15 min walk down the coastal path to Shanklin beach (though it’s not a walk for those less mobile as it is quite hilly.) We borrowed buckets, spades and a beach mat from the B and B as well as beach towels which is so handy when you don’t want to bring all those things with you on holiday when it’s only a few days away.
The breakfast here was delicious with something for everyone and it felt like nothing was too much trouble to just ask. Our children enjoyed the waffles and pancakes. The eggs - both poached and scrambled - were spot on every day!! They have a great system where you circle what you want for breakfast on a laminated sheet the night before and leave it on reception by 8pm. Cereal, yoghurt, fruit and toast were all on the side in the morning to help yourself too.
We had such a great stay here and would highly recommend The Royson to anyone. Shanklin is a really lovely place to base yourself for an IOW trip and we will most definitely come back and stay here again in the future. Thank you Nigel and Sharon for a lovely stay!

Our stay with Sharon and Nigel was exactly the stress free week that we needed! They are natural hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them. They have excellent local knowledge and were a pleasure to chat with. All the little extras including the beautiful freshly baked biscuits in our room on arrival, the buckets and spades available to borrow for the beach and the daily weather reports at breakfast to help us to plan our day - we honestly felt we were staying in a home from home!

The breakfasts were perfect; such a large choice - we loved the full English, massive homemade waffles, pancakes and huge bowls of fresh fruit and berries. They kept us and the children filled up all day which meant we could enjoy our activities without anyone being hungry or grumpy!!

They had clearly thought through the current Covid guidelines and implemented a one way system through the house, two separate sittings for breakfast and we were impressed with the system to reorder any towels etc without the need for anyone else to enter our room. We stayed in one of the Family Rooms and found it had everything we needed. The fridge was a bonus so we could have cold drinks at the end of the day.

Our daughter turned 5 the first morning we were there and Sharon and Nigel went above and beyond to make it a special birthday for her by decorating our breakfast table with a big helium balloon, a card and a gift! So thoughtful and really appreciated! Along with her dream of sleeping in a bunk bed and the amazing play room and the beach only 5 mins drive away she keeps asking when we can go back!

The Royson is in such a great location - you can walk to the beach along the coastal path but it is a bit steep with a buggy so we opted to take the 5 min drive which we were more than happy with. We had a full adventure packed week but there are so many other days out that we would love to do so we will definitely be booking back into the Royson in the future!

We stayed at the Royson as we had a family member seriously ill. Nigel and Sharon made the stress and difficult time a lot easier to cope with. They set us up with a great hearty breakfast to keep us going and on our return each day they asked how things were and if we needed any assistance.
The royson is the friendliest place to stay at on the island as we have stayed at a few over the years.
The royson is situated in a lovely location on top of the cliff with sea views with good access to walk to shanklin or Sandown beach. This was great for us to go on a regular walk each evening to distress from the days events.
We look forward to seeing you again in the summer.

Nigel and Sharon are such a caring and fun couple, nothing is too much trouble. We were there for 4 nights. The rooms are very clean, comfortable and had every home comfort to make our stay wonderful. With covid still very much in "full swing" the mask wearing in communal areas, hand sanitizer everywhere, and even the remote control in a bag to keep it virus free made us as a family feel so safe on our first trip during the pandemic. The breakfast was amazing, my husband opted for the full English every day, my daughter had something different every day cooked breakfast, cereal, pastries, yoghurt, pancakes or fruit salad. I opted for the fruit salad every day (not your tinned fruit salad) it consisted of fresh melon, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, mango, pomegranate, grapes and raspberries. The pancakes and waffles are the best. My husband borrowed a body board for my daughter and she had a great time in the water, my husband had a go and snapped the board in half...Nigel and Sharon saw the funny side when we took the broken board back and were so kind telling us not to worry. Thank you Sharon for teaching my daughter to juggle and donating the juggling balls, you both are really very kind. We will see you soon!

This was our second stay, and once again, it was absolute perfection. Everything is bright and clean. The family room was huge and full of thoughtful touches, like colouring books for the kids, homemade cookies waiting for us, slippers, robes, and a lovely coffee and tea station. So much variety for breakfast, and everything cooked to perfection. Games and toys for the kids meant we could sit and enjoy a cup of coffee while they played. We loved every minute and will very happily stay again next time we're at IoW.

We stayed at this B&B for 5 nights so had enough time to settle in and write an informed review. On arrival we were greeted by the owners who were very friendly and professional, given the Coronavirus situation we were provided with a thorough brief and then shown to our room. First impressions were good, the room, although small had a comfortable double bed, it was tastefully decorated( nautical theme) and was very clean and tidy, pillows, sheets and towels were clean, the bathroom was spotless. The wall mounted shower was fine and shower and hand soap was provided. Tea and coffee provision was really good so no issues there. Although our room did not have a sea view, we found it to be very quiet and just what we wanted, the wall mounted tv worked well with excellent reception and the usual channels provided . Breakfast was excellent with wide variety of choice catering for all dietary needs, we had full english - all locally sourced produce and delicious. Service was excellent too and we had no issues either with the food and quantity- better than some premium hotels I have stayed in.
There is parking for cars in front of the B&B and enough spaces for all guests- even when fully occupied so a real plus . You can walk into the old town or the beach quite easily and we found a lovely small restaurant withing five minutes walk on the footpath on the the Hideaway) not far from St Boniface Cliff road.

This is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle but close enough for easy walking to Shanklin sea front and local beaches. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable and relaxing time was had and credit to the owners for making us feel so welcome.

The Royston guesthouse was so welcoming and so lovely inside, the hosts Nigel and Sharon are really friendly and very helpful and a great understanding on how to make there guest feel comfortable and relaxed and enjoy there stay at the guesthouse.
Our room was immaculate and had all what we needed and more.
The breakfast choice was outstanding and was excellent.
Cleanniness was top of the shot perfect. Well organised for the COVID rules /entrance and exit and hand sanitizers and masks worn
Location was excellent close to Shanklin and Sandown just by taking an alleyway at the end of the road, great for walking and taking in the sights again perfect.
Would highly recommend the Royston guest house it is catered for singles/couples/families cannot fault anything at all.

We had a fantastic 5 day break and we would certainly return again

Another wonderful 4 night stay here! Sharon and Nigel are the most down to earth and nicest people you could wish to have as hosts. Nothing is too much bother and they genuinely bend over backwards to ensure your stay is as comfortable and relaxing as possible. Our room was bright, clean and comfortable with plenty of refreshments. Our two children really enjoyed the playroom and all of the toys there as well as making friends with other guests children too. Breakfast was absolutely beautiful as always, we have honestly never had a better breakfast than The Roysons! Contrary to other reviews, the guesthouse does not smell like stale cigarettes or grease fat, it smells clean and fresh. In regards to Covid safety, you’d be hard pushed to find a safer environment to stay. Sanitisers everywhere, a separate entry and exit door, social distancing, the works. We were really sad to come home but we will be booking to stay again next year. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and hospitality Sharon and Nigel, we really enjoyed our stay :)

Absolutely amazing!!
Sharon and Nigel were incredibly friendly, nothing was too much, lovely family ran accommodation.

We arrived 4 pm on a Monday, correct guidelines were followed by all staff & other stayers in the Royson. Everything was explained to us about the Royson by both Sharon and Nigel.

Our room was better than any hotel we’ve stayed in (we stayed in room 1), it was very clean and very homely. Sharon even makes cookies which I requested more as they were beautifully designed by Sharon and very tasty. It was child friendly with lots of games and beach toys etc provided if needed. Breakfast was amazing, both Nigel and Sharon explained that if we’d like a certain breakfast a certain way then to just ask and they’d happily oblige. The food was always fresh which is a major added bonus. I’d recommend Sharon’s waffles with fresh fruit and Nutella, it was something I looked forward to every morning.

If we ran out of any towel, teas, coffees, toilet roll etc.. we simply had a check list to hang on the door each morning. This was a very handy way to keep our room topped up in a contactless way.

Both Sharon and Nigel happily told us where the bars were and local walks. We told them we like quiet beaches and they guided us the best they could. Really helped our stay even more enjoyable.

All in all we can’t wait to stay again and would 100% recommend for families, couples & singles.

Thank you both Sharon and Nigel.

We’ve just got back from two nights at this delightful guest house run by the brilliant Nigel and Sharon. So much thought has been put into every corner of every room, from the homemade biscuits (works of art!) and hot chocolate and marshmallows in bedrooms, to the clean and well-equipped playroom and lounge, which our girls (2 and 5) really enjoyed exploring. The breakfast was fabulous. Everything prepared fresh daily, with a huge range of hot food cooked to order in addition to self-serve cereals, yoghurts and juices. The location was great, with the coastal path just a few moments away and some lovely beaches and restaurants within easy reach. Thank you so much to our wonderful hosts and we look forward to coming again in the future!
