This is a unique place to relax and recharge. The Grange is in a quiet location with access from a gate at the bottom of the garden to a road down to a very nice beach, where you can swim. It takes less than ten minutes to walk down from the house. There is a a spacious terrace where you can have breakfast in the sun, overlooking the large and beautiful garden. At high tide I could hear the sea from my room, which overlooked the garden.
Inside the house is a good-sized breakfast room and a large sitting room/library, where we would have enjoyed sitting if the weather had been bad, which thankfully was not the case. Tea, coffee and herb tea are available for guests to help themselves, something we appreciated very much. Sensible measures were in place to protect people from Covid and the whole place was reassuringly clean. What we liked best was the peace and quiet, the lovely garden and the gentle and gracious hospitality, something which can't be captured by a checklist. In case you are wondering, the hotel is really handy for the high street and restaurants although it is so peaceful.

Sadly we only had a one-night stay in this gem in Shanklin. We were made welcome from the moment we arrived - nothing was too much trouble. The receptionist noticed that I had mobility issues and suggested a ground floor room which was light, bright and airy, with a wonderful shower pressure! She even offered to make a reservation in the town for us to dine.

We were served breakfast under a parasol in the sun on an amazing terrace overlooking the treetops of their wonderful garden.

An added bonus was an "honesty" bar - so we could enjoy a late night nightcap.

We had a two night stay at the Grange in October 2020. The Covid precautions made us feel safe, there's plenty of hand sanitiser throughout the property. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always wore masks. The room was comfortable, with plenty of space. The bed was comfortable and the bedlinens were especially luxurious. We only had breakfast, that was tasty and good portions. They gave great advice for where to eat out in the evening. The location is perfect for exploring the southern part of the island, and the walk from their were lovely. Can honestly say there's nothing to complain about.

We felt that although very reasonable for a guest house there were things that either needed changing or attention. It would have helped had they not told us we did not have a reservation and directed us to another establishment called the Grange. The room was comfortable enough although there were times when the water in the bathroom could have been warmer. However due to a disability the room was not on the ground floor as we had requested and the stairs were much steeper than indicated.. The breakfast was well prepared and served but a minor nigel was the sausages. Any smaller and they would have been cocktail sausages. The car park is ridiculous: crowded, cramped and awkward. The people were pleasant and the service efficient and helpful. However more attention to making people wear face masks and stick to their breakfast times would have been appreciated.

Stayed here for four nights earlier this month and loved it. A beautiful old building very tastefully decorated and furnished throughout in soft natural tones. We had a large twin room/ ensuite shower room with very comfortable beds on the ground floor with full length French doors which overlooked a lovely verandah. Powerful shower with plenty of hot water and beautifully big fluffy towels.

Breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice and tea/coffee available throughout the day and evening in the dining room as well as in our bedroom. All the staff we met were very friendly, helpful and efficient. A very warm and relaxing atmosphere throughout.

The hotel is situated in a quiet location but within an extremely short and easy walk of Shanklin Old Village where we found two good pubs serving food and several restaurants including an Italian and a Thai one. We ate in a different place on each of our four comfortable nights.

I am so pleased to have 'discovered' The Grange and I would certainly highly recommend a stay here.

I look forward to making a return visit next year. Many thanks to the owner and all the staff.

The hotel rooms are very dated and need a facelift. Walls peeling, mouldy and dirty, bathroom same and has a strong dirty odour. Bed uncomfortable and very squeaky. The bed valance etc was marked and also worn in places

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is adequate with enough choice. The car park is a nightmare.

Overall the hotel is definitely not 4* quality but has great potential to be so if they give all the rooms a deep clean and revamp.

We really enjoyed our four night stay at the Grange, being in an ideal location just behind the heart of Shanklin's quaint old town, literally a few minutes walk away. The hotel is a little gem, set in beautiful enchanting gardens, which the owner has taken great pride in to provide a lovely setting for his guests (perfect for breakfast on the patio overlooking the diverse array of greenery). The tiered garden has sunbeds and loungers set amongst it and at night is lit up like a grotto. The hotel and rooms are all tastefully decorated in a classic style, fitting and in keeping with this old attractive property. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful with nothing being too much trouble. The breakfasts were very good, with coffee and tea available from the dining room all day. A nice little bar too, with Yannis the owner available for serving drinks until late. Would definitely return to and recommend the Grange.

Just what we needed a long weekend in the IoW
We walked for three days directly from the accommodation because it is in a very good location. The Grange is in amongst it all but quietly secluded at the end of all de sac. The sea, restaurants and bus routes just minutes away.
The owner made us very welcome and their staff know their customer journey and what service means in a 4* B&B. Welcome tea and biscuits when we returned each afternoon.
Great for us and we would recommend The Grange.

We stayed for two nights for a last minute holiday break.
The Grange is in a great location / easy access to the sea and a sizeable garden.
The staff are friendly and helpful.

The hotel is at the end of a cul de sac so has not passing traffic.
The car park is a challenge even in a small vehicle.
The common areas are sizeable and yet slightly foreboding.

Our bedroom was a reasonable size and over looked the car park.
The room was let down by the mattress which was unsupportive and had a sharp object sticking out of the mattress and through the bottom sheet.
The mattress also sagged. Not comfortable to sleep on at all.

The shower room was small but manageable. It was well light.
The shower itself was in poor condition with the vertical bar for the handheld shower attachment broken. As a result we had to hold the shower head whilst showering. The shower was small and hard to close the door on the unit itself.
The shower was an electric shower and the pressure was reasonable.

A new mattress and refurbished shower room would make a huge difference .

The hotel is in a good position for old and new Shanklin. Old Georgian building, well laid out, hilly garden, but then I.O.W. tends to be hilly wherever you go. It has a gate at the bottom, do a left for the beach, a right for the old village part. A minor problem is parking which can be at a premium in the evening. Personally, I had no problem, as the hotel was kind enough to reserve me a space, as I'm a Blue badge holder. Having said that there is a car park close by where you can dump the car for £2 per night, so it won't break the bank. You will find Moira and Wendy extremely helpful on the management and dining side of things, and also able to advise on dining elsewhere etc.. Not forgetting the cook who you never see, but rustles up a mean breakfast. Can"t fault it really. Added bonus, we met some nice people there. Might even send a Christmas card. Both of us would highly recommend.

Hello Ian, Thank you for your lovely comments. We are delighted that you spent your first break for three years with us. We always reserve a space for Blue Badge holders and, as you say, there is a local car park near by and street parking is available a little walk away. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay here and your comments will be passed onto Wendy, the chef and the rest of the team. We hope to be able to welcome you back another time when you will meet even more nice people! With best wishes, Moira.
