We attended the Hotel Valentine's night. What we were told was a 5 course taster menu and overnight stay. The room was of good quality quirky and spacious with perhaps a few improvements required to the en suite which is clearly on the owner's radar, but we understand Rome wasn't built in a day. The view was to die for and a lot of work has clearly gone into trying to upgrade a magnificent old building, something that is not easy or cheap to do. This is a gentleman's residence built on a cliff, so has many stairs and nooks and crannies so maybe not suitable for anyone unsteady on their feet. Now to the food. The 5 course taster menu turned out to be a full blown feast, with good sized portions and a well thought out balanced menu which would suit most people's taste. It was well cooked and presented. Breakfast was equally good with a good selection. Perhaps serving the toast in a toast rack would be a nice touch, rather than a whole piece left on a plate. All in all excellent value for money and a really fantastic experience in a most enchanting environment with the staff doing all they could to make your stay enjoyable and relaxed. Well done to everyone and good luck for the future of the Wellington hotel.

It's worth mentioning that the place is undergoing renovation and although that had no negative impact on my stay it's worth mentioning. And I'm looking forward to the finished article. Another thing is that I booked through a certain well known booking site and got a discounted ferry price which saved me a bout 50 quid so book the hotel before your ferry.
There is no parking but there is a public car park a couple of minutes walk away so no big deal. The hotel is perched on the side of the hill overlooking the beach and sea so try and get a room with a view as I did. Reception was welcoming and cheerful and the hotel was quiet with tasteful decor and nice period details.
My room was very smartly decorated, spotlessly clean and with a nice balcony and I couldn't wait to get the doors open and enjoy, eventually, a summer's day. Bed was big and comfortable, good quality TV with the main streaming options available, fridge in the wardrobe, Nespresso machine, proper big glass glasses in the bathroom, decent shower with good quality soapy stuff, and of course the sound of the breaking waves to lull you off to sleep.
Just one negative point. All of the balconies had a fairly bright light come on once it was dark and this could not be switched off in the room. It did eventually go off but not until after 11 o'clock. You could shut the heavy curtains to keep out the light if you wanted to sleep before that but then you'd lose some of the sound of the waves and the breeze.
So a very nice experience and as my daughter now lives in Ventnor I will certainly be back.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a detailed review in relation to your recent experience with us, here at The Wellington. We’d like to thank you for noting that although we are currently undergoing renovations this does not have an impact on the stay. We have a great deal with Wightlink, and I’m pleased to see you benefited from our ferry discount. I’m pleased to see you enjoyed your bedroom balcony, amenities and being so close to the sea. Thank you for highlighting the balcony lights, this is useful information. We’re looking forward to seeing you return, and we wish you happiness and health throughout your future travel plans.

We stayed for a night on the 18th May. We had a lovely room with an en suite, which was extremely comfortable and very clean. It had a large balcony with comfortable seating which overlooked the beautiful Ventnor beach. We went to see Blank Xpression, a new wave punk band , that were playing there. They were brilliant. The Terrace where the band performed was very well organized with comfortable seating and tables, so that you could view the band wherever you sat. Checking in and out was very easy.

Lots of on street parking/ if you don’t mind a 10 min hill walk. Pay when you check in, alarm bells should have rung at that point. God help you if they have a fire, every fire door was propped open, with a fire extinguisher all the time. Our room was on the fourth floor with low level windows, (less than 2’ from the floor) safety catches on the windows, one was broken, the other had been removed. Bedside light was hanging off the wall. Extractor fan in shower reported not working on the first night, still not working 4 days later when we left. Shower jell nearly empty when we arrived, had to ask for it to be filled after room had been done on the second day, and ask for bog roll. Reception area in the evening looked like students accommodation with bicycles against the wall, the empty bike rack outside looked good though. Breakfast chef really needs to go to catering school, I can cook a lot better myself. Call me old fashioned, but at 150 a night I expect my breakfast to be at least as good as I can do but preferably better and I expect basic health and safety regulations to be observed, I also don’t expect to have to go and chase up basic supplies. That being said, the place was clean and the staff were polite.

Good Afternoon. We are deeply saddened by your review and rating. Full parking information is provided at the point of reservation via automated emails and also on pre-arrival notifications and displayed clearly on our website including information/address for a 2 minute walk car park which is a completely flat route. Should you require a carpark or hotel parking we suggest booking a hotel which state they have this facility to offer. Alternatively, please read all information the hotel provides before you arrive for smooth process. All payment is due on arrival is a very normal procedure to expect and should be noted for your future travels to start up businesses and also when visiting small, seasonal seaside resorts. Again, this information was provided on the pre-arrival notification which I can see was delivered successfully on Booking.com. Doors are only open for short times during busy periods e.g. stock deliveries, but have taken note of this. We note some vandalism happens in public spaces and often guests will break certain items to gain a better view, which we continually replace. Your note of the bathroom fan was taken, and acted upon. As you are aware deliveries for items on the Isle of Wight take a little while longer. It is now replaced. We thank you for bringing this to our attention. Housekeepers routinely replenish items such as toilet roll and shower products during daily and weekly checks, should you have ran out of toilet roll, upon the next inspection a new roll would have been provided. All guests are informed to use the bike rack, some feel uneasy to do so and bring these inside. This is something we are able to do to accommodate guests needs - our main aim is to make people feel comfortable when staying with The Wellington. Sorry breakfast wasn't up to your standards, as you can see from reviews on Booking.com we're rated the best in the area, because of this Booking.com have awarded us the 'Exceptional' flag in this department. We are a small family ran accommodation, having taken over a derelict building during covid and are learning along the way. We hope more people in future can see the amount of love and hard work goes into The Wellington Hotel (nominated for 3 awards just this year alone). We wish you well in your onward travels, however feel your review has been unnecessarily negative. We would ask you in future to consider speaking with the hotel about your concerns. We have guest feedback forms displayed in reception which are helpful for hotels when completed by in house guests. Kind Regards, Management

Lovely location, managed to check in early which was great! Balcony was lovely however on the Friday night there was a bit of noise coming from the bar below but that's to be expected and not a huge issue.
I stayed in a room on reception level and it was at times a little noisy, also as a solo female traveller my room felt quite exposed, there was no 'Do not disturb' room signs which lead to housekeeping waking me up. Would highly suggest they get some!
There was a public car park less than a 5 min walk away which was fairly priced and great access to the beach with loads of great cafe's. and close access to the town
Room was clean, bed was comfy will definitely be returning!

We took our elderly mum to the Isle of Wight to see family and requested 3 rooms with easy access. We were given 3 fantastic rooms on the reception level with balcony's and sea views. We arrived on the back of the Isle of Wight Festival and it was fully booked with guests who had been attending and/or performing there. As we had a dog with us we asked would it be possible to eat breakfast on the terrace, and it was no problem a table was set up and orders for food promptly taken. On a couple of mornings our mum didn't feel like coming down the stairs for breakfast, so she was asked what she would like and it was delivered to her own room where she could eat indoors or on her balcony. Nothing was too much trouble. Our coffee machine didn't work the first morning, we went for a walk and when we got back it had been replaced with a new one. Its a family run establishment and you can see that they care for their guests.
We are planning to return when time permits.

We were really excited to be staying at The Wellington as the reviews were good and we know the location very well but we were disappointed. Starting with the positives, the view from the room was amazing. The breakfast was great, so tasty and lots of choice. When there were staff about they were friendly (they seemed very short staffed and the same person was running around doing reception and serving breakfast on one of the days). Now the negatives, it may just have been our room but it was very tired looking, the bathroom was a good size but looked dirty (it could have been it just needed updating). The carpet was very stained and needs replacing, there were stains on the ceiling where there had been a leak at some point (would be easily fixed with a lick of paint). Through no fault of the hotels, the people in the room above us were so noisy, but the old, creaking floorboards didn't help (even with earplugs in this still woke me up). The walls seem quite thin (we could hear the conversation in the next room). They didn't seem to have enough staff. On one of the morning's the gentleman who was serving breakfast was also having to go up two floors to answer queries at reception and then back downstairs to serve breakfast again. We personally didn't see anyone at reception that often (although the did have a Ring doorbell that you could press and someone would come up). The hotel has so much potential but the bits we saw were tired looking (coving coming away from the ceiling, stained carpets, big cobwebs out on the balcony).

We went as a party of 30 people to this little gem of a hotel for Burns Night. Several of the party had also booked rooms to stay over (which they told me were very nice with lovely sea views). What a night we had! Andy, Gary and all of the Kinnaird family were dressed in traditional Scottish attire (Gary even piped in the haggis - amazing!). The attention to detail in this beautifully and tastefully restored Victorian hotel is just exquisite from the reception rooms through to the dining room, bars and even the loos! Great care has been taken to create a relaxed atmosphere with a traditional feel. The sea views and terraces to the rear of the hotel are pretty spectacular. The food was top notch, plentiful, perfectly cooked and of excellent quality (predominantly home- made). We had an excellent array of non-alcoholic and alcoholic cocktails, wines and even given free tasters of single malt Whisky “as a nod to Scotland”🏴. The entire front of house, kitchen, bar team worked in unison to make sure we had the best night, it was beyond amazing! The party were also treated to some Scottish dancing demonstrations and encouraged to join in, great fun. In conclusion, go ahead…..……stay here, eat here, have a drink and take in the views here, you will not be disappointed and receive only the warmest of welcomes from this lovely family run business who take a real pride in their enterprise.

Took advantage of an attractive room rate linked to a supper talk given by a local sailing legend, so decided to stay over (we live near Cowes). An attractive building high above the sea, which gives exceptional views. And because it’s on the mid level of the town, the walk in to shops and bars is easy with no major hills to tackle. Having been empty for several years, the hotel is a work in progress but the reception area shows the intent and it’s very smart. Lovely staff who gave a warm welcome and our room, with balcony was immaculate. Going to sleep with the balcony doors open and the sound of the surf hitting the beach 100’ below was wonderful. It’s great to see an Island business with plans and vision and I wish them every success.
