We stayed for 2 nights in the Royal and, as usual, the service was brilliant. All the staff are friendly, smiley and nothing is too much trouble. The room was brilliant with a view over the gardens and swimming pool. The food was absolutely delicious. Care was taken with the current restrictions for social distancing etc., with sanitising units situated all around the hotel public areas. The menus were, unusually for this hotel, single use also complying with the current regulations for Covid-19. The room itself upon entering had everything we could need, towels in plastic bags, tea/coffee in plastic bags, milk in plastic bags, even the tv remote was in a plastic bag. The room had been sanitised and disinfected before use and had a sticker across the door and door jam to say the room was ready for occupation. In the restaurant, where we would usually receive a basket of bread, this was replaced by an individual plate of bread wrapped in a napkin. The cutlery was also individually wrapped in a napkin. The waiting staff kept their social distancing as far as was possible. The reception staff were exceptionally helpful. The bar staff were able to come to your table, whether in the conservatory or outside, and take your drinks order and bring your drinks to your table. Highly recommend this fabulous hotel.

The Royal is such a luxurious hotel, we felt so lucky to stay there. Staff couldn’t have been more friendly, food was out of this world and the room was wonderful! We can’t thank you enough for such an incredible 3 night stay!!

The hotel have done everything they can to help during the pandemic. Check in was online and we were greeted outside the front to be handed our keys. The room had been ‘sealed’ so we knew it was cleaned properly and the hotel even left bottles of travel hand sanitizer. The hotel is incredibly luxurious, we felt so lucky to be there. We had a garden view room which was so worth it! You can’t beat waking up to such a beautiful view every morning.

The food was like we’d never tasted before! They have some incredibly talented chefs and I wish we could have stayed longer to try more dishes. Each one was perfect in its own way, so delicious! The staff during dinner were friendly and ever so helpful, they made you feel welcome.

Staff at the hotel were fabulous, so friendly and always wanted to hear about your day. We asked to have dessert one evening and they quickly accommodated us!

The grounds are beautiful, the gardeners must put in so much time and effort to keep it looking so fabulous. They are a real asset to the hotel.

Finally, the hotel is in a great location. The beach down the hill is gorgeous. There is a great ice cream shop about 20 minutes along the seafront which is definitely worth a visit.

If we were going to stay on the Isle of Wight again, we’d choose here in a heartbeat.

We recently had a 2 day DBB break at this traditional, upmarket seaside hotel. The entrance is welcoming and impressive and all areas clean, comfortable and smart with an eye for detail. The staff were polite and professional. Although we upgraded from an entry level room we still found it rather small and would have liked a separate shower and not have to get in the bath to use it.

The food was good but not outstanding and unfortunately our first night was spoilt by a rib eye steak that was so tough that it was not edible which was taken away and replaced by a sirloin which should have been medium rare but was nearer raw. By now we were close to the last diners and the other meal had also been replaced once rather than try and keep it warm. We were offered a complimentary glass of wine each while we waited for the replacement food but this was far from the relaxed dining experience we had been looking forward to or expecting, we were assured by the maitre'd that the steak would be removed from our bill.

When it came time to check out we were surprised that no adjustment had been made to our bill. After several telephone conversations the gesture was made to deduct the cost of both meals that night. This we felt was appropriate as it spoilt an otherwise enjoyable break, we would rather have had the meal we expected.

We stayed in The Royal for the first week of August. First impressions were not great, we’d had a long journey and the “greetings lady” was on a break so I checked into reception by someone who was so miserable and disinterested. The lift isn’t working (maybe closed due to Covid) so we were told to carry our suitcases up the stairs. The parking spaces on site seemed to have been reserved so we parked in their car park around the corner after unpacking.
The rooms/bathrooms are clean but really need a bit of an upgrade.
Due to Covid rooms are only cleaned once if you stay over 4 nights (we were there a week). You can exchange towels when required by leaving them, along with your bins, outside. It wasn’t really made clear that we could request water bottles for the room (they would have been replenished each day in normal times) so subsequently we spent a lot of money on bottles of water from the bar for our family for the night time.
The restaurant staff were fantastic and the food was superb, we had dinner there 3 times. Dawn was a big hit with us! Marios was “fantastic, excellent and marvellous”.
The pool, although small, really entertained our children and the pool staff were lovely too.
Ventnor was a great holiday and somewhere we’d all be delighted to return to one day. The Royal is ideally situated for this and the hills give you a workout!

Another warm welcome awaited us in this wonderful hotel. Every precaution had been made to ensure staff and guest safety in this Covid-19 time which allayed any concerns we had before arrival. Hand sanitisers available around the hotel and even small bottles available in our rooms.
Our bedroom overlooked the garden with views across to the sea. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and plenty of toiletries were available for our stay. In the dining room the usual buffet breakfast had been replaced by table service - which I hope will be continued once we are out of this pandemic. Dinner as usual was excellent.
Grateful thanks to the wonderful front of house team who were so welcoming, making us feel special.

I agree with the review suggesting that perhaps the Royal is not as good as it has been. Our Christmas break was spoiled by poor quality Christmas lunch and having to wait 40 mins on another day for a meal, I do not loose my temper often but I snapped then! The duty manager quickly produced a bottle of champagne to apologise.
A warning to all, ask for details of your bar bill, we were given a refund of £68.00!!

We stayed for one night on the dine and stay package. We opted for a Premier room as we were celebrating our 40th Wedding Anniversary we were in room 20 on the first floor which was beautifully decorated with views over the gardens and sea ,the bathroom was spacious with a shower and Bath also lots of amenities. The dining room is very grand ,the food was amazing we had gallybagger soufflé which was so light, fillet steak (locally sourced) melted in your mouth, citrus posset and local award winning cheeses the servers were very attentive at all times . We were bought a Happy Anniversary plate which was a nice touch. The bed was very comfortable and we awoke to a lovely sunrise as the weather was very good during our stay. Breakfast was served in the dining room we choose from a menu which had a good selection of choices with help yourself juices, cereals. The grounds are very well manicured as is the riviera terrace over the road from the hotel with views over Ventnor beach. There is also adequate parking. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return.

Our fourth visit to the Royal Hotel and every time it seems to get better. We've just enjoyed their New Year package along with two friends. This hotel is elegant without being snobbish, the rooms vary in size and outlook and have everything in them that you need, comfortable beds, tea/coffee making facilities, either showers or bath with shower, bath robes available upon request, all kept spotlessly clean. There is parking available either directly across the road or behind the hotel. The gardens are a delight and even in December their wonderful climbing geranium on the front of the hotel is in flower. The staff are friendly and efficient and go the extra mile to ensure that you have everything that you need. The piece de resistance for us though is the amazing food. I can't remember when I've enjoyed such consistently good meals. Breakfast has a vast choice which due to current covid rules has to be bought to your table but the service was fast and efficient. Our evening meal choices were outstanding and there is a comprehensive wine list. Ventnor seafront is at the bottom of a very steep hill which isn't suitable for everyone but there are lovely scenic drives from the hotel and charming places to visit on the flat.

the pool and poolside area is very welcoming with plenty of towels and poolside refreshments available.
just a quick wander down the hill to the lovely beach - weather helped this year of course.
well worth a visit or holiday trip. Many guests of all ages - including young families and children well catered for.

My wife and I were given as a present a voucher for a elegant afternoon tea that we used this afternoon. All I can say is excellence all round .
My wife is normally a wheelchair user but due to the great disabled parking provided this was not a problem .We met a member of staff who was really kind and helpful in every way we could have hoped for .
A member of the reception staff showed me the accessible room and thank you we will be staying later in the year .
The Food was amazing and we were even given a box to take home the few cakes that were left . Once again a big thank you to all
