We have just returned from a week long stay at St Maur. David, the owner gave us a warm welcome. Our room was very comfortable. Nicely furnished and not cluttered like so many bedrooms can be. Really cosy feeling. Everything was colour co-ordinated and it was obvious much thought had been behind this. Even the pictures blended. Could have done with a little bit more in the way of lighting. Having said that, no problem. The bath towels were beautifully thick and the water was the softest I have ever experienced. Wonderful sea views. The front garden is beautiful. Pretty obvious that it has a great deal of TLC? The breakfasts were amazing. So much choice. We were greeted each morning by two charming ladies. We didn't eat in, in the evening but caught sight of a menu and there was plenty of variety. At night it was very quiet and peaceful. There was ample car parking, but on a couple of occasions we parked outside in the road, which was not a problem. Would highly recommend St Maur to anyone thinking of taking time out in a beautiful location on the I.O.W. Great location in Ventnor for accessing the coastal path but also for walking into the town. ( Re COVID, they are very aware, but it is not rammed down your throat. Adequate signage in the communal parts of the building).

St Maur is one of the few remaining “traditional” family run private hotels, where the owner’s lifetime of experience comes shining through in every aspect of this charming Victorian hotel. The breakfast is simply the best. I’ve not tasted better anywhere!! and the five course dinner was particularly tasty and well presented
The rooms were comfortable, spotless and well equipped, however it was the owner with his attention to detail that gives this hotel the full 5*****
Nothing was too much trouble for him.
The grounds were delightfully laid out and contain many of the original owners exotic species, now fully mature.
The location is very convenient occupying a quiet elevated situation, on the edge of town.
Highly recommended

We visited the St Maur as a one night trip on dinner, bed and breakfast deal which was excellent value. The 3 course evening set menu was freshly cooked and plentiful followed by a cheese board and tea/coffee with a chocloate. The room was a good size, comfy large bed, well equipped bathroom and a lovely sunny balcony. Breakfast again was all freshly prepared to order, tasty and filling. After our meal we walked into town as several of the local pubs do live music on Friday and Saturday evenings but the hotel lounge is welcoming and I believe there is an honesty bar for drinks should you decide to stay in. We would definately stay at The St Maur again.

We booked direct with David the owner for our honeymoon.
This is very much a guest house rather than a hotel and has a trusting relationship with guests such as a honesty bar.
We stayed in room 2 which we were told is their best and largest room. Huge bathroom with lovely bath, decent sized shower and his and hers sinks.
The bed was large, two singles pushed together but still comfortable. Nicely decorated throughout and very clean, good covid compliance. The balcony was nice with good views of the lovely garden and a glimpse of the sea in the distance. Camping chairs were provided as well as sunloungers to sit outside, but the sunloungers were a bit rusty from being left outside so we didn't try those.

The breakfasts were lovely too. Due to covid you had to submit your breakfast order the night before but lots of choice and catered to my gluten intolerance.

The location is great, with the village only a 10-15m walk away with plenty of restaurants and pubs to choose from. The beach is similar distance away, but beware of steep hills!

All in all David and the team at St Maur made our honeymoon very special, leaving us to it but there for anything we could have needed. Thanks again

An exceptional guesthouse in Ventnor. Very clean and comfortable - we were made to feel very welcome. Beautiful garden and a lovely short stroll into town . Breakfast was on a par with many higher grade hotels and the lounge with honesty bar very welcome at the end of a long day walking

We were in a room (15) with a lovely outside space and large bathroom. The room was clean, everything was wonderful. Breakfast was as big as one could manage, plenty of choices and one could also eat dinner there at additional cost. Our host, David, is a charming and very friendly host, obviously has green fingers as the garden is stunning. He is a font of local knowledge on walks and the surrounding area. Two weeks we spent there and it was very relaxing. There is off road parking for a few cars, alternatively there are no restrictions parking on the road. We heartily recommend.

Having secured tickets for my 5th IOW Festival I then needed to find somewhere to stay having retired my tent after my 3rd visit. Finding decent accommodation at a reasonable price proved difficult. I was meant to attend the festival with my partner but due to personal reasons she couldn't come so I invited one of my friends. I contacted David who runs St Maur to ask if I could change the room to a twin but sadly due to there being no vacancies. We arrived at St Maur on the Thursday at about 1730 to a friendly welcome from David himself. He informed me that although he couldn't change my room to a twin he had managed to swap rooms with another guest for one with a much larger bed. The hotel was really nice and quiet and just what we needed after a long day dancing and singing to a wide variety of artists over the 4 day period. We only ate breakfast at the hotel as we weren't getting back from the festival until late. The breakfast was fantastic and set us up perfectly for the whole day. We both had the full English as it fuelled us for the day but there was also the option of fresh fruits and cereals. Although we were younger than most of the other guests who were staying at the hotel they were all very friendly and were even interested in who were playing at the festival and how good they were. . So to summarise, if you want a nice friendly hotel with a friendly owner and staff with exceptional breakfast in a lovely location then you won't be disappointed with the St Maur.l

We spent 2 nights at the elegant St Maur Hotel as my birthday treat and just wish we had been able to stay longer! David, the owner, had organised our ferry (we wanted Lymington/Yarmouth and he was able to get that route) and was on hand with excellent service throughout. The 5 or 6 course dinners both nights were good and breakfast was freshly cooked each day too, with no waiting about. The gardens were just beautiful, huge tropical planting throughout, and with the incredibly blue skies that weekend and the hot sun, we felt like we'd been transported to the West Indies with none of the travel hassle. Excellent value for money, nice bedroom with separate bathroom and balcony with outside seating and cushions. A great base for exploring the whole island but in particular the south with its beautiful coastal walks and beaches. We look forward to returning as soon as possible.

room 7, top floor, double aspect (both seaviews, plus stunning vast gardens, in which there is seating area (maybe more than one, I don't know, but they're huge and gorgeous). Plenty windows for fresh air, plus fire escape in our room, leading onto a safe level rear area , very unusual for the height of house., enabled by the properties being on ascending levels, set into the terrain.
Large bathroom (with bath & shower/2 skylights). Comfy ample bed (2 pushed together expertly), at home we have emperor 7 x7, so often size is an issue , thankfully here, with bonus of quiet hotel/area, sleep was great! As expected cleanliness /comfort all sorted. Huge brekkie, in lovely dining room overlooking the leafy exotic gdn. Could have delved into the amply stocked bar downstairs. Actually , icing on cake was the pleasant ,welcoming efficient staff , I mustn't forget that bit. I don't think children are catered for here, ideal for couples/singles, although you can get down to the beach via a lovely park and walkways

We've just had a three night stay at St Maur and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. David and his staff are all so friendly and welcoming. The room we stayed in was spacious and spotlessly clean. Added benefit of a fridge with fresh milk in was a bonus. Excellent cooked to order breakfast. St Maur has a lovely lounge to sit in and also an honesty bar in separate room. It has lovely gardens to sit and relax in. All in all, it is a perfect place to stay! If you stay here, take a short walk from St Maur to Steep Hill Cove (no road access) an unspoilt beautiful little beach.
