Stay at the Ellan Vannin and you are putting yourself right at the centre of the action. We are located in an extraordinary location on the sea front in Douglas, in the heart of the international business and banking area and surrounded by the best of Douglas shops and restaurants. The main sea port and picturesque marina are only a 5 minute stroll from the Hotel, as is the Villa Marina and Gaiety theatre.

Thank you for a welcoming stay in the Isle of Man. We were able to check in early which helped as we had flown in early, so able to freshen up before exploring for the day. Prosecco on arrival is such a lovely gesture (we did have later). Very accommodating to all in the choir and very much appreciated the early breakfast, which was delicious. Fantastic service throughout, thank you.

The Ellan Vannin is the perfect hotel because of the hotel staff, wonderful rooms, and location for a trip to watch the TT races. Our room was a good size for a standard room with a king sized bed. The modern bathroom was recently updated and sparkling clean. The bed was comfortable, and there was a good amount of storage in the closet and on the floor for all of our motorcycle luggage, gear and the massive amount of TT souvenirs we bought! The location is within easy walking distance to restaurants, bars, and TT activities in Douglas. The best part of the Ellan Vannin is the staff! I broke my foot while riding a motorcycle in the middle of our stay, and the staff went out of their way to help me. They cooked and brought me food even when the restaurant wasn't open, called cabs for us and helped with our luggage, brought us beautiful homemade treats every day, and always greeted me with well wishes and smiles to help brighten my day. They boosted my spirits during a very difficult situation, and I will forever appreciate their kindness. We will 100% stay at the Ellan Vannin the next time we travel to the IOM. Thank you all!…

Booked a double room sea view, I think we were given a room on the top floor (there were no more stairs to go up) not sure if this was an upgrade. Either way great view across Douglas Bay as you would get in any rooms at front of hotel. Room was large, clean, comfortable but of course this is not a modern hotel. Parking is a nightmare along the front normally (free overnight but limited to a few hours during day, not possible to pay for more), but as we were here for a weekend and a bank holiday we managed to be able to leave the car outside the hotel during part of day we were not out, as it was free during that time. Make sure you get a permit from hire company for parking which allows you to park in certain places. Staff working here were very nice particularly the guy working at breakfast. There is a bar on ground floor and also a gaming room.…

We had asked for a room with a separate shower and facing the sea. What we had was a room with a shower facing two rendered walls. The room was vary small, gloomy and rather claustrophobic with very little space to move around. The "easy chair" was low and very saggy and difficult to access as it was in a corner behind the dressing table or desk. The shower was ok and we had one towel each, no hand towels were there but we did have a bath mat to step out onto. The vegetarian food was very, very unimaginative served in a dark, thick liquid which could have been thick Bisto gravy. Some of the starters and deserts were good though. The bar, lounge, television room and games room was just one, all encompassing room with a sea view from the bay window, it could accommodate about 20 people in total I think. I found it strange that there were no marked fire exits or directions to the rooms, which were accessed from different stairs. There seemed to me to be little attention to health and safety re trailing leads etc. It was all rather disappointing compared to the website pictures. The location was good. …

Thank you for your review. I am sorry you were disappointed with your stay but It is neccessary to point out some inaccuracies with your comments for the sake of future Guests. You were part of a large group on a coach trip and the room you had booked and paid for with this coach company was a rear facing room not a sea view. The room you were allocated is one of our larger rooms with two separate windows and a large bathroom with a separate double size walk in shower. It has an extra large six foot bed, separate desk and work area and an easy lounge chair. No reasonable person could ever describe this room as claustophobic. I think that on arrival you decided you should have chosen a sea view room and are blaming the Hotel for being unable to upgrade you. I feel that you should address your disappointment with the coach company you booked with instead of unfairly blaming the Hotel on Trip Advisor. I am also very disappointed that you felt the vegetarian food was unimaginative as we tried hard to provide you with choice and high quality homemade meals. You were one vegetarian in a large group all eating who enjoyed their meals. You were not served our homemade gravy which is made from scratch using beef bones which is not suitable for a vegetarian. The bar and lounge area is a lovely light room facing the sea and is registered by the Fire brigade and the Alcohol unit for 50 Guests, I find it strange you miscalculated the room size so completely. The games room is situated at the rear of the building and is the same size again as the lounge and bar. The dining room is also a completely separate room, exactly the same size as the lounge and bar, facing the sea with a lovely big bay window and also licensed for 50 Guests. During the day this room is set up with club chairs for Guests to use in addition to the lounge. Finally your comments on the health and safety are extremely misleading and possibly libellous. The Hotel is rigorously inspected by the Fire department annually and fully complies with all the regulations including signage. Unlike the UK the Isle of Man accommodation providers are also inspected regularly and licensed by the IOM Government who set a high standard on quality and health and safety.

We hadn't previously stayed in Douglas, and selected the Ellan Vannin largely on its position and positive reviews. We were delighted with it. Breakfast is the usual hotel buffet, but comprehensive and of better quality than some hotels. Dinner was excellent but has to be booked in advance. Service isn't fast, but there is a view of Douglas Bay from the dining room. Our room was spotlessly clean and well decorated, and we slept well. The staff were friendly and helpful. All in all, an excellent experience.

Just had a lovely 4 day stay . The hotel is situated in an ideal location with close access to local transport and amenities. We had a Seaview double room which was excellent. Had a fabulous view, courtesy tray, very clean and comfy. Huge TV and tech available. All the staff were very professional and friendly and the place had a good atmosphere. This was our second stay and will definitely be back!

Just spent one night in the Ellan Vannin for nostalgia. It was my childhood home from 1957-1971, and I wanted to see how it had changed and what it was like now. I have to say we were impressed. Room was clean, nicely decorated and well equipped - even a "washlet" style toilet that delighted my Japanese wife. Very stylish bathroom. The gorgeous view out over the bay was much as I remembered, though you will only get that if you book a sea view room. Nice buffet breakfast with some good produce. I notice a few complaints about the absence of a lift. Back when I lived there we looked at installing one, but it was simply not physically possible given the age and layout of the building. Overall it's still a great choice for a stay in the centre of Douglas.

Great week here at the Ellin Vannin, will certainly book in here again if staying in Douglas on our next visit to the island. Friendly staff, clean room. If we needed anything it was dealt with straight away.

It's difficult not to like this hotel. It does has some minor issues but there are a lot of up sides as well. Lets get the issues out of the way first ( and they are minor but I should mention them ) Room service forgot to put towels in the room one day which is hardly a disaster since we noticed before showering ;-) and a trip down to reception fixed that quickly. The second and by far the most serious is that they didn't have any Pinot Grigio for the first two evenings. My God, how can you run a hotel and not have Pinot! Other white wines just don't cut it do they, and I still may sue for damages since my wife then discovered the joys of Prosecco ! ! To their credit we did get a complimentary bottle when it was back it stock.... but it was too late, my wife was already a Prosecco convert by then. People who give bad reviews about stairs and stuff should really look at the pictures and consider the age of the building. It's never going to have lifts and escalators etc. We could only have 4 of our 5 nights in a sea view room as it was already booked so we had to move on our last night but that was our choice and to be fair to some other posters though it was located somewhere in the sky! Whilst the hotel does not advertise porter service the guy on reception offered if we needed it and was incredibly helpful throughout . In summary, the hotel is an old building and a bit tired but is in a great location, all the staff we met were pleasant and helpful. If you expect the MGM Grand then you are going to be disappointed but if you expect a large Victorian ( or whenever ) home converted to a seaside hotel like most of the other hotels along that stretch of the front then you will be fine. My advise would be, kill or offer your first born child to get a sea view room. Take it for what it is and you will have a great time.…

Thank you for your wonderful review. Firstly, I do apologise that your towels were not replaced during your room service - I can only assume this was a genuine slip of the mind moment from our housekeepers. We almost always offer a range of white and red wines in our bar and when we run out of any stock we endeavour to replace it as soon as we have the staffing numbers to. However, I am delighted that you appreciated the complimentary bottle you received. We really enjoyed looking after you both and we hope to welcome you back in the future.

Ok stayed in Ellan vannin for 2 nights at £178 pounds. Hotel was very quiet. But we ended up in room 8. 56 steps up to room and as an oap felt it was a bit bad. Never the less room was very nice, bed comfy, shower fine. My only complaint was there was only one pillow,To have another it would cost £1.50 never actually heard of that before. And if you where there for a week and wanted your sheets changed it woukd cost you a fiver. Bit much I think, you expect them to he done as part of course.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. You booked on Booking.com a budget double room which is advertise as being on a high floor, accessible by stairs only. We emailed you on booking to also inform you that your room was on a high floor and to let us know immediately if you required a low floor which you did not. There was low floor room available at the time of booking however you chose to book the high floor. By the time you arrived the hotel was fully booked not as you imply very quiet. The hotel provides a complimetary linen change and room service every 4 days. Therefore, if you were staying for a week you would not be required to pay any additional money for a room service. I am confused as to why you believed otherwise? It is increasingly common for hotels to provide 2 pillows per bed. The £1.50 for additional pillows is for the contribution towards the cost of laundering the extra pillow which like all costs at the moment is rising out of control.
