Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Amazing staff, extremely helpful. My husband fell outside the hotel and broke his pelvis in 3 places and spent 13 days in Noble Hospital. As a result I stayed behind when our coach returned home. One member of staff helped me book a flight home after I was scammed. I was made to feel special by the staff, asking me how my husband was and how I was managing. Cleaners moved my luggage to different rooms when I had to change, extremely pleased as I wasn't relishing doing that on my own. Special thanks to bar staff who kept me going, also reception, waiters/waitresses, chefs and cleaners. Delicious food.Couldn't have had better service anywhere. Would definitely recommend this hotel. Huge thanks to everyone x

A well maintained and friendly hotel, well situated centrally on Douglas Promenade and just a short walk from the city centre Good ramped alternative access and elevators to cater for disabled guests and visitors. However, lighting could be improved between the entrance door and the door to the lift corridor. Well equipped rooms - we paid slightly more for a sea view - rooms cleaned daily. Would have liked some more coffee/ milk/ biscuits in the room ( although I am sure we could have got this from reception if we asked) Food in the restaurant and bar was of good quality and reasonably priced. Friendly atmosphere in the bar and restaurant Self service breakfast was well managed and breakfast was ofvgood quality and plenty of variety - both cooked and continental. Breakfast room is clean and spacious, however the decor is a bit dated compared to the rest of the hotel. All staff were friendly and efficient.

Very noisy full of contractors who get up at 6am. The walls are plywood and the showers sound like helicopters taking off in the room next door. When I complained the maintenance man listened to the noise and walked away. Reception told me noise was to be expected as it is an old Victorian building. No apology or sign of management taking responsibility. Horrible hotel

The Empress has great location on promenade. Staff friendly in all areas. Room was sea facing and very clean. Very good selection for breakfast hot and cold and also extras to order on request. Nice piano bar with hot food available. Bus stop handy if using public transport which is amazing on the island. Would definitely return to isle of man and The Empress Hotel..

Lovely clean hotel. Very conveniently positioned. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Evening food selection also very good. The only reason I can't give it five stars is that it's not wheelchair accessible.

We have stayed at the Empress before several times and always met with a lovely smile at reception. Comfy bed and great breakfast. Nice relaxed feel at the bar area and great view over promenade. Loved our overnight stay and will definitely stay again.

First time on the Isle of Man and it didn’t disappoint, such a beautiful Island and the people are so lovely and friendly. The Empress Hotel where we stayed did not disappoint, we had sea view room, it was a lovely size, bathroom was big as well, the breakfast was amazing lots on offer, staff very attentive and friendly. Would definately stay again. Great value. Wonderful atmosphere. We ate at the piano bar and had room service for dinner and were more than happy with the meals and value.

Excellent location, comfortable, spacious rooms, high ceilings, beautiful architecture. The rooms are tastefully done. Very clean. Staff couldnt do enough for us. Nothing was too much trouble. Very friendly, professional, accommodating and polite. We travelled with my elderly disabled father, who had additional needs and requirements. All were met and more. The food in the hotel restaurant is easy 5 star. The bar area is very pleasant. The pianist in the lobby is a pleasure to listen to. But the stars of the hotel are the staff. Every one of them. A shout out to Darinka, Victor, Magdalena and O'Riley! You made our stay extra pleasant, memorable and special. Also the beds are comfortable, all furniture nice and very functional, loads of storage space, everything up to standard. Although there is no hotel parking, there was plenty of available spaces close by. The breakfast is more than adecuate, you can try the local smoked kipper. Also the prices are more than acceptable, and we felt we get value for our money. If I have to be very picky: the continental option could include some cheese and perhaps some cold cuts. The colour of the walls in the corridors was not to my taste (shade of cold gray) and the carpet is nice pile, but if you push a wheelchair on it, you have to put a bit more effort. But this is really nit picking. We will gladly return!
