Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I’ve been camping here for the TT since 2012. It’s an excellent location, close to Douglas for Tesco’s, ferry etc. Quarterbridge pub is over the road (for when it’s raining – obviously), and is trackside if you want to watch the racing without travelling (hung over/late up etc.) 
Make no mistake, this is a rugby club that opens its doors to campers for the TT, not a full time campsite with all the facilities. But, for what they charge it’s very reasonable. Since I started staying there they have improved things year on year. They now have quite a few staff on duty all the time, and they’re always helpful. They don’t allow bikes on the field (not a bad thing) but they do have a farm buggy type machine with a trailer that they’ll happily use to transport you and all your gear to and from the pitches (no charge). There are strategically placed wheelie bins all over the site (no excuses for being litter bugs) and the site is patrolled/cleaned regularly.
Toilet & shower facilities are ok. You need to pick your times for the showers, if you go down in a morning, expect to queue for a while and then stand under a cold, slow running shower. The same can be said for the toilets, and they’re not spotless or odour free, simply because of the sheer number of people using them. Again, they have improved since I first stayed there. But, I was there for 7 nights again this year, don’t remember having a cold toilet seat the whole time. If you want 5* accommodation, stay somewhere else and pay the appropriate price .
The clubhouse was updated considerably 3-4years ago and looks a lot better. But, the number of people staying at the site has increased, so you can seldom get a seat in there on an evening. The bar prices are reasonable, but, if you want to watch the TT highlights on an evening (which we do) it can be difficult to get within viewing distance of the TV’s, and you can’t hear the commentary. That might sound trivial & petty, but we’re all over there for the same thing, bikes, bikes, bikes, so some improvement needed there. A/V equipment isn’t expensive or complicated these days – hint hint.
Now, the catering. For the first two years I stayed there, they had external catering. By this I mean a hot food/butty van, with a trailer hitched to the back that did fresh pizzas on an evening. They were brilliant, open all hours, quick, efficient, good quality, and in my opinion, very cheap. When the clubhouse was refurbed, they took the catering in-house ( I understand why), but it’s now awful. Slow, inefficient staff (cos they don’t do it for a living), poor menu, poor quality (tinned curry on lukewarm, under cooked chips, clap cold burgers on dry bread, and expensive, I won’t go on). Please, please, bring back the butty van, leave it to the experts, and continue to spend your money & energies on everything else, you’ve done a great job with the improvements and we’ll be back next year as per usual. As a side note, most of the local pizza places etc. will deliver to the site. But, they’re very, very, busy during TT, so expect to wait for a while. We just rode in to Douglas and strapped them to the back of my GSX, way quicker.

We came over for a week during TT and the facilities are fantastic. Every aspect of the clubs setup is spot on.
Showers - Hot!
Beer - Cheap & good!
Food - lovely & good value!
Organisation - great!
Location - brilliant!
Price - more than fair!
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they dealt with any problems swiftly. At the end of our stay we had some bits we werent taking home and they found a home for them almost instantly, hope the chair is comfortable! To all TT fans, if you want to camp with good facilities, beer, food and also a great viewing spot, this is the place!!
Thanks guys
Jesse Mortimer

Let's start with positives. Well maintained and run bar, if small for the number of campers. Staff were excellent. Equally, food in the clubhouse was good and staff great. Had pizza from outside catering, cold in the middle. Far too few charging points for the numbers. No C type charging points, although staff member did say it is one to add next year. The tent was a fully erected one with mat, table and chair. Had to ask for the second chair twice. The mat is useless to sleep on. Blow up beds needed.
External toilets and showers appalling. Dirt, urine all over the floors etc. Obvious very little cleaning is undertaken. Only 3 male showers available early doors. Queing at 0530 to 0600 approx in very low temperatures. Overnight staff are emloyed, so open the club house toilets and showers at 0500 latest. With vast numbers staying, they are needed virtually 24/7.
Those paying the most for pre erected tents are the furthest awsy from the facilities, whilst those paying minimum for a plot to erect their own tent are closest. Swap them. The more you pay, the more advantages you should receive!
Bikers need to be told to park up in the large reserved area for them and not to park in the limited space for cars!
I am done with camping. Will be sad not to go to IOM again, after 61 years, if I cannot find a hotel for next year.

Excellent organisation and bar staff but lack of toilets/showers and the tents crammed In just wasn’t good enough.
First part of the week the bins were always emptied but as race week came the bins all around the site were overflowing with rubbish.
One way system was a good idea but not managed due to bikes parking all over the place.
Bar to small to cope with race week numbers and pizza van was a joke. Burned outside cold in the middle.
They need to book less people in or will start to loose numbers.

I go to several motorbike rallies throughout the year and Douglas Rugby Club is a good venue which does a good job given the numbers of people who descend.

The staff are great (or at least were when I needed help). The amenities are a bit of a mixed bag, the showers are good (it's a rugby club so can offer several communal changing rooms with good water pressure), the toilet facilities are not so great and the food is average at best.

The toilet facilities were a let down, a lot of them were in an old semi-permanent structure which rocked alarmingly with only a couple of working taps. Perhaps it would be possible for the organisers to hire portaloos for the duration of the 2018 TT?

Food, this was exactly what you'd expect from the UK. Chips with everything, burgers, curry, fry-ups etc. I don't remember any healthy or veggie options for dinner. Personally, I would have much preferred to have seen a couple of catering vans offering some variety of cuisine while the club could have focussed on selling drinks.

Other than that, it was a great week, helped hugely by the good weather!

A final point, I found the booking engine really confusing, both this year and last year. There was no way to specify how many pitches are required if you bring your own tents and are in a large party with mixed sleeping arrangements. I tried calling and emailing, but to no avail.

If the club is willing to spend a little money and book some better toilets and outsource the catering, then I think this would be hugely appreciated.

I stayed here for 12 nights during TT 2017. I chose the paddock area as I could park next to the pitch. The field was very uneven. It was very noisy at night with music blaring out and bikes being revved and nothing seemed to be being done about it. Security seemed none existent. The toilet blocks weren't the cleanest and the showers whilst having dividing shower curtains there was no choice but to dry and dress yourself in the communal changing room. There was food on sale in the clubhouse but it was very expensive. I was charged £9.00 for a small plate of fish and chips that wasn't even that nice. I did not eat there again. All in all I was very disappointed after reading good reviews. I have booked another site for next year.

Apologies for the delay in responding. Thanks for your feedback on our campsite. We have security on the campsite 24 hours a day and do try to ensure that the few don't spoil things for the majority of visitors. The toilets and showers are cleaned 3 or 4 times a day however it can sometimes be challenging when all your visitors want to shower and eat before 8.30am and all return at about the same time in the evening - but that's what the TT is all about . I'll pass your comments on to the people in charge of the catering. We take on board all feedback both positive and negative and try to improve each year and have made a note of all the comments from our visitors and these will be taken into consideration when we're planning 2018 Anne

I stayed here for the TT with a group of 20 friends celebrating my 50th! Facilities were good considering the number of pitches. We paid extra for the paddock which was worth it. On race days you have to walk through a stream to get across the road which was fun!
Food served in the club was good wholesome grub.hit the spot!
The showers were good, hot if you timed it right (early afternoon was quieter)
Bar prices were reasonable & was never packed.
I would definitely recommend this site.

Don't be fooled this is not a campsite it is a rugby club, you will not find anywhere you can dry cloths, you will cue to use the toilet stand up to eat from paper plates.Access to and from the main road is dangerously potholed. The club house is used for dining with limited seating you can sit outside in a drafty marquee . The only good thing was the food .

Hi Thunderbarn Apologies for the delay in responding to your comments. I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay at our campsite . As you point out , for 50 weeks of the year we're a rugby club which we then do our very best to turn it into a good campsite. It's sometimes challenging to manage when all of your visitors want to shower and eat before 8.30am and all return at about the same time each evening - but that's what the TT is all about . we take on board all feedback both positive and negative and try to improve each year and have made a note of the comments from all visitors and these will be taken into consideration when we're planning for 2018 Anne
