We stayed last weekend for just a one night staycation, having got the train down to make it more a mini stay at home holiday! We had a lovely room directly facing the Castle with a sofa in the window, to sit and gaze out over the square. The room was really large and was very nicely decorated, with everything you need including an iron and a coffee machine. We ate in the bar that night and we both had a lovely meal of steak and fish and chips, both cooked to perfection. Breakfast was very good too, with a full english on offer and other hot alternatives, as well as cereal and fresh fruit. Above all the staff work very hard and are extremely pleasant and welcoming.
There's lots of things on your door step in Castletown, walks, bars, coffee shops and restaurants and a lovely historic town to stay in.
All in all a really lovely short treat and stay at the George, we would return at any time of the year and recommend to our friends, thank you!

The George Hotel is situated in historic Castletown opposite the medieval castle. A friendly welcome was received on arrival. Our family group of three was shown to our comfortable bedroom comprising of a large double bed (two singles together) and a sofa bed as the third. A compact ensuite shower room was part of the accommodation. The room had plenty of storage in the form of a wardrobe, bedside tables and dressing table. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water, biscuits & Manx chocolate were available and replenished every morning when the room was serviced all made for a comfortable stay
Breakfast did not disappoint with a varied menu served until late morning to set us up for the day and a good evening menu was also available.

There is a little noise that can be heard in the room from the bar in the evening but nothing to disturb.
We could have done with an extra large towel as there were three of us.
The room was serviced every day to a good standard and if there were any problems we only needed to ask our friendly host and it was quickly rectified.
Very friendly and welcoming staff to make our stay enjoyable.
Car parking on site
Easy access to a frequent bus service to Douglas via the airport and Port Erin
I already have my next booking and looking forward to my return.

We had a lovely large room on the first floor looking out to the Castle across the square. Large comfy bed, very clean and good hot shower en-suite. We had a meal one night downstairs in the pub/restaurant at a very reasonable cost, very tasty and good sized portion. The breakfast choice was all the usual and the full IM was plentiful and locally sourced high quality. But what made this place stand out is the friendly staff and great service. We will most certainly return soon.

I only stayed at the George for one night, as I was just visiting Isle of Man for one day as part of my holiday. However, I’d have been very happy to have stayed longer. The staff were exceptionally friendly towards me, and when I told them I was a solo traveller, they were keen to advice me on some of the best places to visit, which I was able to since I had hired a car for the day. My room was spotless ! I was provided with a really comfortable bed, all fresh bedding and towels, and there was a kettle with a choice of hot drinks including herbal ones too, plus biscuits and fresh bottled water. Also a fair sized tv and free Wi-Fi provided. I could not fault the cleanliness of my room at all. From the moment I checked in, I felt very welcomed, there was nothing the staff wouldn’t do to make your stay enjoyable. And the food was very delicious, all fresh, home cooked and reasonably priced. Not to mention the bar….they served me a great pint of Guinness which went down a treat after my long journey getting there. All in all I would most definitely recommend this hotel, which caters everything you need for a comfortable stay.

We have recently stayed at this pub/hotel on three occasions, and we will have no hesitation on returning when we are next in the Isle of Man. The bedrooms are comfortable and look as though they have been refurbished - and unlike a lot of hotels, there were two armchairs in the bedrooms, so one of us didn't have to sit on the bed. The shower room was really good.

The breakfasts are excellent, and the meals in the bar are first class. Without exception, all the staff were friendly, efficient and very welcoming.

There is a bus stop very near to the hotel, with frequent buses to the Airport and to Douglas. The hotel has a car park at the rear, and it only takes about 10 minutes to the Airport. An ideal situation in a pretty little town - and a visit to the castle opposite the hotel is recommended.

The George was a recommendation and one that more than filled expectation. Without exception All the staff were cheerful warm and welcoming making sure 'their' guests received the best of service! The rooms were spotless, beds most comfortable and the dining room menu of both breakfast and evening meal extensive and delicious. Our four night stay was a fantastic base totally relaxing after a day's sight seeing and would certainly 'pass-on' the original recommendation.

Stayed for three nights a few days after TT Races. It's a pub with rooms so don't expect 'hotel' care despite paying £154 per night. Pub is situated in pedestrianised area with its own tables and chairs, plus public deckchairs and table tennis tables. Room on first floor had king sized bed and sofa overlooking The Square. The wardrobe was foul smelling having been 'treated' so an air freshener was necessary and its doors had to remain open. Adequate drawer space. TV with limited Freeview channels. Tea/coffee/hot chocolate supplies/biscuits. Bathroom was cramped but everything worked, one small shelf for toiletries. Room had limited service, indeed Sunday no service at all. General Manager whizzed around restocking tea, etc., supplying towels, and emptying bins. She apologised for my being 'overlooked' but she was short-staffed. Table in busy pub needs to be booked for lunch and dinner. Breakfast only in restaurant at rear, served from 8 am Saturday/Sunday, 7 am other days. Small buffet of cold food and toast, hot food cooked to order and was piping hot. Unfortunately, my first breakfast was delayed 30 minutes due to the staff being locked out of the restaurant, then a 30 minute wait for my hot food, second breakfast 20 minute wait, similar third breakfast. At most, I saw six people at breakfast. First dinner in pub had 30 minute wait. Food is very good when it arrives but the ambience is busy, busy, busy.

All perfect: comfortable stylish and quiet room with everything you could possibly want, also delicious breakfast options and the many dinner meal choices made it difficult to choose!
There are two sunny outdoor seating areas, depending on the time of day, the hotel is in a gorgeous location in beautiful Castletown overlooking the castle and attractive square with lots of fun things like table football and ping pong tables, etc for all to enjoy, there’s a lovely community atmosphere which we really enjoyed.
The staff were friendly and attentive.
They stored our bags before and after check in /out which we appreciated.

The only thing we missed were options to eat locally sourced foods.

My husband and I stayed at The George for a 3 night birthday treat and it couldn’t have been better. The George is set in the perfect location and we enjoyed a lovely spacious and stylish room overlooking Castletown’s famous Castle and town square. The staff are so friendly and accommodating and genuinely interested in guests. The food was excellent with a huge choice at breakfast and dinner served with relaxed efficiency. Looking forward to returning again soon!

Our family group of six, two grandparents, two adults and two teenagers spent a most enjoyable week at The George. Our three rooms were all very well appointed - overlooking Castle Rushen - and were extremely comfortably equipped. The staff are, without exception, most welcoming, cheerful and obliging: nothing was too much trouble.
The situation of the hotel is both lovely and convenient: it is the dominant building in a most attractive square facing the castle, is a lively hub for the local community, and there are several excellent restaurants within easy walking distance.
Breakfasts are hearty and generous, and the dinner menu is both wholesome and very reasonably priced.
We are all delighted to recommend The George.
