Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Charming hotel, friendly staff on reception, housekeeping & catering. Lovely location, parking initially a concern but the council carpark nearby isn't too far. Breakfast was a lovely start to the day. Navigating to the rooms is a bit of a warren system but still, lovely experience.

This is a great hotel right on the seafront. The staff are very professional and friendly. Rooms are clean, and the beds are very comfortable. The prices are very reasonable and include a very good buffet breakfast. I will certainly go back if I'm in the area.

A warm, comfortable room with a large en suite bathroom inc walk in shower. There was a kettle and tea tray and a free view tv. The single bed was comfortable and I had a good sleep. The breakfast buffet was excellent with lots of choices and a good way to cut waste by having guests choose their own breakfast foods. I really enjoyed my cooked breakfast. There was no view to speak of and there was pigeon noise early in the morning. The stairs up to the rooms and dining room were rather steep an anyone with mobility issues could struggle but it was good that the guest rooms and dining room were close together on the same floor. Overall it was a great value stay and I would definitely return.

It was my third visit to the Royal Hotel. It's a convenient location for me. I paid for a larger room this time, which was better than the tiny room I had last time, but it was freezing in there all the time. The view was also terrible, but I found that if I kept the blinds closed all the time, it helped with the heat. I finally got a second duvet cover, which kept me warm enough to be able to sleep. I did like the new TV system, however, the people are always very nice, and the buffet breakfast is very good. The Wifi worked consistently this time, which was an essential plus. (Last time it did not) Overall, my stay was very good.

I booked this last-minute after another booking fell though. The booking process was easy and the staff member at check-in was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable if slightly dated, and an extra space heater was quickly provided by staff to make it nice and toasty. Breakfast was a hot buffet, okay quality and plenty of it to fill me up for walking around Newcastle. The location was good, on the sea and walkable to the metro.

Whitley Bay is a town I always love to visit, being right on the coast and this hotel had everything I could possibly need. Easy to find along the sea front and parking out the front. A warm welcome, a comfy bed and an excellent breakfast. Only a short walk to the Metro station as well for a trip into Newcastle. I will definitely stay here again.
