Just to warn others, this B&B is For Sale/Sold, which may explain what I'm going to say, and possibly why. First impression not good when seeing "For Sale" signs outside, overgrown front garden, and empty drive. To all purposes the B&B looked actually closed.....it of course wasn't. The interior was dingy, looked dirty, and looked in need of extensive TLC. My room on the first floor was described, and pictured on the booking site, as a Single Superior room. I felt it was anything but......very small, although it did have a double bed, I should add, with a rather old uncomfortable mattress, and a Fridge located in the wardrobe !! (it wouldn't have fitted anywhere else,.....but an all out safety hazard). Many parts of the room had seemingly not been cleaned for ages, thick dust & grime in places. To be fair, the one shining light was the breakfast area, and breakfast which was superb and served quickly, and nicely, on every day I stayed there, in fact the only reason I have given this property a rating of two and not one. In view of the other positive reviews, this B&B must have some good points, but I didn't see them !

Response from westfieldbb, Owner at The Westfield
Responded 10 Aug 2019
I wasn't going to respond to John's review & had decided to treat it with the contempt it deserved. But then I thought even though we are leaving the hospitality industry, He may decide to take his bad mood out on somebody else in future. I am pretty sure John phoned the day before his arrival at 11.45 pm (waking my wife and I from a deep sleep) said he was wanting to book for late August & wondered why he could not, he said he had noticed on another review that we were Sold, I told him if the room was available on our booking system we would be here to honour it. When John arrived I meet him at the front door as is my usual practice to show the guest the code lock function. As I approached him I asked what I had done to upset him as he was obviously very aggravated, I showed him the Breakfast room & then up to his room, He immediately said this is not the room I booked it's too small, I assured him it was but he then went into a rant about it, how it was bigger on the website & not what he wanted. I feel he was expecting me to move him to a larger room, but his attitude had done him no favours on that front, so with him cursing at me and calling me a liar I left him to it. I told my wife what had happened & she even checked the photos, ( the dimensions were on the internet) in case they had been moved, replaced or corrupted, we could not understand his attitude (we had only ever had a problem with this room when let as a double) Hence it was now a single all be it with a Double Bed. He had also only paid £50 per night including a full English breakfast. At breakfast the next morning John apologized to my wife and asked me to come so he could do so to me, I refused as I felt that to be even more insulting than the previous day. So all I can say is it's not right for someone to be so contemptuous & expect to be forgiven so easily. For the record we have sold The Westfield but will be here until the purchase is complete & any bookings will be honoured.

Perfect accommodation for the festival weekend. Breakfast was our main meal of the day and we were certainly looked after. Hunger was kept at bay right through to early evening. When we arrived and saw the sold sign, and it was explained that they were indeed selling up, there was a little nervousness that our stay might be marred by an attitude of ‘it doesn’t matter now’ but that certainly wasn’t the case. Well done to the owners on maintaining their caring attitude towards their guests as they work the final weeks. If you were there next year I’d have booked again.

Deciding to visit friends in Isle of Wight on a last minute whim, we secured a room at the Westfield for a few nights, and was fully prepared to not spend much time there. However, the Westfield is a real gem, and we have a lovely stay there (our friends had a real problem getting us out!) The room was fairly large, very clean and with a shower that was quite strong. Although on a semi-busy road, the Westfield is set back, so there was no issue with traffic noise at night, plus as it's not too close to the sea front it was pretty peaceful. The owners are a nice couple, and made sure that we had a hearty breakfast before going out each day. Very reasonably priced, and highly recommended!

I stayed here for a couple of nights. The owners were friendly and welcoming, access at all times to the B&B. My room was clean and spacious, with a nice bathroom. I also had a TV and tea / coffee in my room, which was of good standard. The fridge was a bonus as I was able to keep medication cold. My room overlooked the main road at the front. I did sleep with the windows open and was not disturbed by traffic at all. Plenty of parking. Breakfast is cooked fresh to order in the morning. Would return.

First time in Isle of Wight and choose the Westfield to stay at as it’s good value for money and close to Many attractions. The staff are very friendly and it’s a family run business. The room is the right size for a couple with an en-suite and a wardrobe and a mini fridge to put drinks in. You are allowed to order a takeaway and eat this in the B and B in the games room and also allowed to bring in beverages. The breakfast is superb and they accommodate to what you would like to eat. Would recommend to anyone looking for a Isle of Wight holiday is to stay here.

We enjoyed our three-night stay. Our room was very clean with a superb walk-in shower. Having a fridge to keep bottled water in was wonderful as the weather was so hot, we needed to take water out will us. The room's ceiling fan was very welcome and was definitely needed for our stay. And a great cooked breakfast set us up for the day. The Westfield is run by friendly staff and is very conveniently situated with the station and bus stops close by,

Nice little room that was comfy and clean. It’s a cheap hotel so the room decor reflects this. However room ten is directly above the kitchen and from 8-10am the owners banged about continuously slamming doors. I went for breakfast, which was very nice and had a polite word with the staff about the problem. They said they would keep the noise down yet for the next 2 mornings the banging still woke me as t was so loud. Either fit some soft close hinges or stop booking the room out would be my answer.

Response from westfieldbb, Owner at The Westfield
Responded 27 Jun 2018
Hi Paul Sorry to hear about you being disturbed. I asked my wife & daughter about this and discovered the noise was mainly from the ladies from Guatemala in room 9. We had a language barrier right from the outset with them, They even tried to check in at 6.30 am and were very noisy. I am not saying non of the noise was breakfast preparations but it most definitely was not all of it. Any way I don't think you would have found anywhere quieter over the Isle of Wight Festival Weekend even though we were full. Most of our residents didn't come down for breakfast as they were sleeping. Soft close hinges are not possible as Fire precautions dictate a firm close & I have never had a complaint about room 10 before. Room 8 & 9 are over the kitchen. Thanks for saying we have a nice Hotel. Barry

we booked a room with 4 poster bed and jacuzzi bath. On arrival we were greated by the owner and show to ourroom which felt a little dark but was lovely and clean. There was the best choice of teas and coffees that we have ever seen! Sandown centre was a level walk of around 10 minutes and there was a free car park at the Westfield. Barry the owner was very knowledgeable about the Island if you have never visited before, Recommended

We booked the superior room with the 5' bed as my partner and I are tall and are used to having a large bed. Superior it was, too ... plenty of room, a large flat-screen TV on a wall mount, fresh milk for the tea and coffee in the mini-fridge tucked away in the wardrobe (A nice touch). Best of all, a killer Full English breakfast each morning with exceptionally tasty sausages. The property itself is within easy reach of Sandown esplanade (10 minutes walk at most) and its seafront restaurants as well as a short drive from Shanklin, Ventnor and Ryde. Heisenberg (one of the resident cats) also put in an appearance outside in the driveway to say hello. A little wary at first but he soon worked out I wasn't a danger and got the tail-up-you-may-now-scratch-my-head treatment, which he quite enjoyed. Don't expect to see any of them inside the hotel premises, though (house rules). Definitely worth a stay if you're visiting the Isle of Wight.

The Westfield is my favorite place to stay on the Isle of Wight. So much so that we've just booked again for the third year in a row! We stayed last year and the year before. We were impressed with our rooms last times we stayed- full of nice little touches. Our favourite thing about this B&B is how friendly the owners are. We are always very well looked after and we love the sociable atmosphere during breakfast. Looking forward to our next stay!
