Room 149 was so lovely, immaculate. Breakfast ace. Staff so helpful. Felt like a family run hotel and a family supporting it's excellence. Swimming, Steam, Jacuzzi and Sauna. Car park. Nothing was too much trouble. The patio door to our room was a surprise ! Just jump out in the morning into the gardens. Very highly recommended. 5 star. Me and my son were very well looked after and we will be back. No issues with water pressure and in fact the wifi was amazingly strong , maybe we were lucky. We will be back with the rest of my family hopefully. The Red Funnel ferry was fine and for the times we got via The Wight at reduced rate was amazing, we normally leave home about 4am and leave at about 10pm to get the same price we got for a 10:30am from Southampton and a 1:30pm sail home back to the mainland. We really enjoyed ourselves.

This was our second visit to The Wight and am so glad we decided to return. We loved it last year when we came, but was so good to see it all freshly made over and looking fresh and welcoming with the new paint and furniture within the dining room and pool area.
The staff throughout were all so polite and helpful with us and our questions and worries. So good to see that they are all still so positive and COVID secure.
The housekeeping team were great and always refilled the tea and coffee station for us and left the room smelling and looking fresh.
So grateful that the swimming pool was open as I really loved the pool during our last stay as it was at the perfect temperature for a morning swim before we filled ourselves up in the dining room where again nothing was a struggle and the staff were all on hand to ensure everything was perfect and that you weren't without. The breakfast menu is of all variations so you aren't stuck for choice with what to choose which was welcoming for a fussy eater like myself.
The free WIFI throughout was great and had a stable connection which allowed us to share our experiences with friends and family throughout our stay and pass on our recommendations to them.
the parking is available on site and suitable for all cars.

ideal hotel and location for those that want a quiet stay but are able to get out and see what's around as the beach and attractions aren't too far and with the transport services close by it's not too strenuous to go exploring.

So glad we made an appearance back here and will be definitely coming back soon.

We rented the family room, which was split into 2 rooms, plus the bathroom. It was a good size, with plenty of storage and had a TV in both rooms. The smaller bedroom also had a sink.

Unfortunately, the toilet had a slight leak, so by the morning when the cleaning staff came in, there was a puddle of water around the pan. The shower had mixer taps, but we soon got used to working out how to get the right temperature. There was always plenty of hot water.

In the smaller bedroom, one of the wall lights did not work. We reported it to Reception on the first day. They gave us some advice, but having tried what they recommended, it still did not work. When we reported it again on the second morning, a different receptionist said there was a general problem with the power in this part of the hotel, and they would have to switch off large parts of it to repair it. So we didn't have the use of this light for the week.

Later in the week, we returned to find that we were a bath towel short, but the room staff gave us another one. One day we returned to find that there was only one hand towel for the three of us. When we reported this to the room staff, she came in to check, then gave us a second hand towel. She said that the hotel was nearly full, so we couldn't have a third one.

However, the room was always well cleaned, and there was a generous selection of milk, tea bags and biscuits etc.

The floor boards outside our room were very creaky!

Breakfast was good. There was a decent selection of food, including 3 different fish options, which we enjoyed. Full English was good, and there was several egg options. The serving staff were pleasant, although not over the top in being chatty. On a slight downside, one day when we arrived, we had to wait 20 minutes to give our drinks order. It appeared to us that one of the serving staff had temporarily left, so we were left to wait for someone else. There wasn't any grapefruit juice all week (apparently there was a shortage with the supplier), and they ran out of porridge one day.

The swimming pool is the best that I have seen in a hotel. It is a decent size, and went to 8ft deep. We used it each day. In the room next to it, there is a table tennis table, which was good, and a pool table. The table cloth was rather bobbly, but fine for children.

The Reception staff were friendly and helpful. They kindly leant us a cable and pair of scissors.

The hotel is in a good location for the beach and high street, both being about 5 minutes' walk.

We arrived as a family with 2 kids just before 1pm and as my wife went into the reception, to check in, we were told to come in after 2pm as the rooms were not ready. We went to have late lunch at a nearby restaurant and came back to the hotel before 4pm, checked in and went in the rooms to rest a bit after a long journey. Our 2 daughters, 4 & 13 years old, went to play in the second room we rented.

As we were resting the 4 year old came into our room to say there is an old man in their room. We didn’t know if she was joking so my wife went into their room to check, the man wasn’t there anymore. By the time i stood up and went as well, he had already came back and was inside the room saying he has to change a lightbulb in the bathroom. I asked him what he was doing in a room with my daughters without our permission and to identify himself.

My 13yo daughter told him when she opened the door thinking its one of her parents, to go and talk to the parents next door. But instead he came into the room and went to the bathroom, intimidating my 13 year old and letting her without a reaction as she has never experienced something like this before in a hotel. When i asked him what he is doing in a room with two kids without parent permission, he said he is allowed to because he is the owner. He said that my 13yo daughter looked grown’ as if this is a good excuse for his actions. He kept justifying that he has to change the lightbulb although we have never requested this and there was plenty of time before the check in to do this, especially when they told us the room wasn’t ready before 2pm as well as us allowing them extra time.

It all felt surreal in a world where media is full of cases like Madeline McCann’s. Even more concerning, even though the room was already occupied and he knew we were inside, he came with the room keys. I told him that as a business owner myself, he should give a lot more consideration before entering a room with two children without parents permission and my 13yo daughter saying no.

As it seems the gentlemen didn’t understand the consequences of his actions, i told him i am concerned about the safety of my daughters in the hotel, explaining how i felt as a father and appealing to his empathy as a potential father/grandfather, and advised that we will be vacating the room immediately, looking to stay somewhere safer and asking for a full refund. He asked if we could just ‘forget about this’ and ‘move on’.

Minutes later, a lady came to our door, identifying herself as the wife, apologising for the ‘misunderstanding’ and agreed to give us a full refund or the first night for free if we wanted to stay. We kept our decision and left immediately, not being able to find another accommodation on the island on such a busy weekend and had to wait for the next available ferry to Portsmouth at 11pm.

On the hotel facilities, everything felt like we were back into the 60’s, the beds, furniture, bathrooms etc... They were all very dated. In the rooms we only had one socket so it was either watch TV or charge your phone.
All in all, terrible experience and left us with a bitter taste as a first time experience in the Isle of Wight.

All I have to say is positive things. The staff were so polite and helpful from the reception team giving us advice with places to go and see, the waiting staff also being full of smiles and conversing in conversation with you from your entrance into the dining room to checking how your food is and topping you up with drinks, the house keeping team were lovely and our room was cleaned and topped up daily with all the essentials nothing was a problem for them and they always had a smile on their faces. Was lovely to see the swimming facilities open, the pool was clean and a perfect temperature for a morning swim. Parking is available on site. Hotels not too far from the beach and attractions. Will definitely be recommending this hotel to family and friends, along with making an appearance back here myself.

Also a big thank you to the lady in the dining room with the fetching black boot for always being so full of beans and helping with our breakfast needs.

We have stayed at The Wight on two occasions.
Both times we could not fault the staff who all went the extra mile to make us feel very welcome.
The rooms were maintained to a very high standard and cleaned daily
There is a good variety on the breakfast menu all cooked to a very high standard
We will most definitely be making a third visit

We spent 5 nights at the Wight for a festive break. The hotel offers a standard package that represents real value for money, has excellent facilities and a spacious carpark. Fran and John are fine hosts and the team worked very hard to cover the rules in place for Covid. Although the overall decor is good some rooms are looking a little dated but are spotless a d every attempt has been made to provide many of the facilities of larger hotels. Excellent indoor pool and games room. Christmas is the only full/half-board package, but is open all year round on a b&b basis. We'll worth seeking out

On arriving at the Hotel i was surprised to find a large car park with ample parking away from the main road.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the Hotel felt Covid-19 Safe without appearing like a Hospital.
The room was quiet with no traffic noise and had a welcome good nights sleep.
The breakfast was of many choices with the main English Breakfast being unlimited (ask for the Jurassic Breakfast and see if you can finish it)
The Beach, Sea front, Restaurants and High street are just a short walk away.
The Hotel has a good size swimming pool and outside play area.
There are lots of places to visit locally and if you are into walking there is a location called
"Devils Chimney" near The Landslip with loads of steps up a inland cliff.
I enjoyed my stay at The Wight and hope to visit again.

2 friends and I arrived at the hotel on Saturday 31st July, and stayed for 6 nights. The single rooms are a decent size with everything you might need. The bathroom I had in a double room was very small, water pressure in the shower was poor, but reception staff advised this was a common problem on the island. Bed was very comfortable, as were the pillows. Breakfast was brilliant, lots of choice, all cooked fresh to order. We were allocated the same table for the whole of our stay, Staff took our order and delivered the food to our table. Staff everywhere in the hotel are very friendly, Evening Entertainment is provided, however. whilst we were there the Entertainment offered was not to our taste and for three nights it consisted of people playing an organ. Hotel is 5 minutes walk from the seafront and the High Street in Sandown. The only thing we were disappointed about was the fact the hotel did not have a spa, which was advertised. We found a hairdressers on.the High Street in Sandown which offered spa treatments. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Just be aware they don't offer evening meals, and it would be advisable to book restaurants in advance as they get booked up very quickly. The hotel have restaurants they recommend where you can get a discount.

Reasonable hotel, but don’t think it was the greatest value for money. We paid for a standard room rather than the small option. Room was still very small. The first room we were shone the beds were dreadfully uncomfortable, creaking with springs sticking out so we asked to move. Staff sorted this quickly and efficiently. Not enough plug sockets and room was a bit tired. Reception Staff were generally friendly, a few were a bit blunt. Breakfast amazing and all the waiting staff were great. Hotel is really on the ball with covid guidelines. Good location, lovely pool. Play area very old, area in front of the pool room had bits of rubbish there for our whole stay. We wanted a hotel with a decent indoor pool so suited our requirements. If you’re not really interested in the pool then I don’t think it’s worth the £110 a night.

Yes, 16/17 year old's can check into The Wight without an adult being present BUT on the following conditions: 1. The reservation must be made by an adult using his/her (the adult's debit/credit card). 2. That adult must accept liability for the reservation should it thereafter be cancelled or curtailed after commencement. 3. The 16/17 year old's must behave responsibly whilst at The Wight - any rowdy behaviour which disturbs other clients would mean that they would be asked to leave and no refund would be made. 4. Obviously any attempt to buy alcohol would be frowned on. 5. Lastly, the adult making the reservation would have to agree to be liable in the event of any damage. Regards, John Owner

Thank you for your enquiry. We do accept dogs by prior arrangement but they are not allowed in any of the public areas (including the bar). Our dog rules in full are as follows: 1. We make no charge but make no provision for feeding etc.. 2. Your dog can be taken to and left in your bedroom provided that a) it is kept off of beds and furniture b) is quiet and c) any damage/additional cleaning/laundry would of course be chargeable. 3. No fouling anywhere in hotel grounds & car park. 4. Not allowed in public rooms (dining room, lounges, bar, games room, pool building etc) and must be on a leash when anywhere within the hotel or grounds (this last being a requirement of Health & Safety). 5. We are informed that your dog will be with you so that it appears on your reservation. Regards, The Wight
