Powered by AI
The Burlington Hotel offers a mixed experience, with guests commending its prime location near the seafront and the cleanliness of refurbished rooms, yet some find the atmosphere and room furnishings lackluster or dated. While the amenities and service generally meet expectations, receiving accolades for staff friendliness and helpfulness, reports of uncomfortable beds and inconsistent experiences suggest room for improvement.
The value is deemed satisfactory by many, though the dining experiences do not always meet guests' standards.

Detailed Reviews
We were camping when 55mph winds damaged our tent. After a late night move into the car to get some sleep with our 6 year old son we had two options - either call our holiday to a premature end or find a bed for a night so we opted for option 2. We booked a place on booking.com which got cancelled an hour before check in so we were desperate and worried. Thankfully we came across The Burlington Hotel which had a spare room! Honestly the lady on reception couldn't have been nicer, she was an absolute angel in our hour of need. We arrived and paid for our room quickly and asked where we could get something to eat. We were given a list of local places to eat and a chinese menu, after calling all local resturants and pubs who were all fully booked we ordered from the chinese. When the food arrived, a lady (we believe was the owner) brought the food up to us but offered us the use of the empty restaurant (currently closed for evening meals due to COVID) as well as plates and cutlery, which we gladly accepted.
Beds were comfy and the room was set up wonderfully, the only issue was a lack of water pressure in the shower but the water was hot so we could still have a effective freshen up.
Breakfast was amazing! Big portions of tasty food in a spacious and clean dining area.
COVID precautions were in place and we felt very safe throughout our stay.
All in all I wouldn't hesitate to book again, fantastic staff, a short walk from the beach/town and lovely food. What more can you ask for!

Returned yesterday from a 5 day break at this hotel on a coach trip with Caledonian travel . Quick easy check in allocated room 14 first floor large family room. Dinner was served 6.30 to 7.30 allocated table for the week dinner was served by smashing hard working staff many thanks to Andrea , Paul and Lou all dinners were lovely fresh homemade food lots of fresh vegetables or salad if preferred the portions were more than ample. Breakfast was buffet style and again good fresh produce with local foods served nice to support local suppliers. Plenty of juices tea & Coffee. The rooms had tea coffee facilities bedding was lovely and fresh, towels were large white and fluffy, a safety deposit box was in each room also in our room was a game console with separate screen not that we used it ! but great addition if you had any younger family members with you. The only slight negative on our room was poor shower pressure but lots of hot water . Lovely large bar area with evening entertainment Jules the comedienne was fantastic, nice tidy garden to the rear of the property. There is an indoor pool at this property but it is closed at the moment due to on going refurbishment at this hotel. The hotel is ideally situated for touring and local bus services. Once again we would like to thank all staff members for their had work and continuing smiles.

We enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Burlington. We had a pleasant room with a seaview! Plenty of wardrobe space and drawers, also coffee table and 2 chairs.
Reception staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. We found the heating to be overpowering! There is plenty of parking out front and its just round the corner from the bus stops and High Street and beach. The road was quiet at night so we slept well, although the bed was quite firm. The bathroom was dated but perfectly functional, shame the tiling was only 3 tiles deep so the shower went on the wallpaper. The restaurant looked very nice when it was all laid out, but the tables were only 2 inches apart so you were all on top of each other. The restaurant staff worked really hard. The meals were hit and miss - the first night my soup had a thick congealed skin on the top, cod in parsley sauce was lovely, whitebait was nice, but overall OK. Cooked breakfast was nice but only 1 of each item so we did have to treat ourselves to a lunch each day as it didn't keep us going till dinner. I am glad they took our dinner orders at breakfast as the first night they did not have my choice of main course. The 99p bar was good for beer/cider but the wine was low alcohol. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would definitely book the Burlington again.

Arrived at the Hotel late Friday afternoon First impressions from the outside were Fresh and clean with beautiful hanging baskets, we found a onsite parking spot and headed to reception, where we were greeted with a warm friendly smile from the owner Sarah, she quickly checked us in and gave me directions and the key to our room, we were asked if we managed to get onsite carparking, as this is limited.
Hotel reception was clean and modern looking.
Our room was on the ground floor and was a deluxe double, with a beautiful bay window, again new carpets seating area, wide flat screen T.V, mini fridge, Tea, coffee making facility's, separate open wardrobe area, draw space, bathroom was very clean with new toilet and walk in shower, brand new bedding and towels, if there was one niggle it would be a lack of a mirror over the dressing table, all though the room had a massive mirror on the adjacent wall.
Breakfast was self service, with plenty of choice, tea, coffee, juice, toast, jam, marmalade right up to the full English, everything being regularly replenished, waiting staff were friendly and polite, though I was told finding staff is quite a problem in the hospitality sector due to staff moving on to other Employment because of lockdown, we found all staff were willing to help and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them, there is a bar area with plenty of seating and entertainment nightly, including bingo.
Overall we had a fantastic stay, Sarah, Paul and team have done a brilliant job after taking over the hotel and giving it a new lease of life, Sarah told me they have not finished modernising the hotel and there's still plenty to do, the swimming pool is closed this season due to on going work and there's still a couple of rooms that need bringing up to there high standards, it's clear they have a vison to bring the Burlington back, and is probably one of the best hotels in the area after many have failed to bounce back after the pandemic. We will definitely be returning to this hotel, the location is just minutes from the beach, shops, restaurants and bars.

We had a few days break staying at the Newly refurbished Burlington hotel in Sandown, one could not find any fault, the hotel has been painted top to toe and new carpet throughout.
Our board was bed and breakfast with evening meal, the breakfast was self service from juice, ceareal to a full cooked brakfast. The evening meal was booked in advance and waiter service with a new menu each day with a selection of 4 mains to include a vegan selection. We could not fault the food each main course was well cooked and thought through.
The staff were wonderful and many thanks to Andrea our waitress, they pointed out the hotels self service laundary room, if spills or spashes needed to be dealt with in a hurry.
There was live entertainment each night starting at 8:00 pm, with a break for bingo at 9:00 pm and then continuing to 10:30.
The hotel is a short walk to the beach which is sandy, a good location for quick dip although too cold this time of year.
I was very impressed as they set the bar very high and the only difficulty I could see would be to keep the standard at this level, well done Burlington Hotel.

Just want to say a big thank you to all the staff at this hotel you all work so hard well done good team work by all.
The choice of food offered at each meal was amazing our favourite member of staff was the young man at breakfast time always pleasant and kept everyone happy it annoys me to read such damming reviews from some people what planet are these people on what do they expect for the price they pay I was more than happy with what we received wishing you all a happy summer season.

I have just returned from a five day visit to this hotel, curtesy of a Caledonian coach trip and I have to say that we both had a wonderful stay. The hotel has recently undergone a refurbishment and the rooms were very smart and clean. Hairdryer, coffee, tea and biscuits replenished every day. We were allocated our table in the restaurant for the duration of our stay with all meals being served seated, no long queues for buffet style. The menus are all posted near reception so we were able to plan our choices for the whole 5 days. A number of choices were available for entrées, mains and deserts, delicious meals. There are also extra choices of meals (chef specials) available at a small supplement. There is Wi-Fi in the common areas. Unfortunately the pool was closed during our stay but there is a leisure centre a short stroll from the hotel. Staff are very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone heading to Sandown.

The first thing that hit me was an overpowering smell of chemical lemon which was noticeable from outside the hotel. This was even more overpowering on arriving at my room when i opened the door. The bedroom window was closed and it made me feel quite unwell. The following day I spent in bed with a migraine which I do not normally suffer from. I managed a short walk on the Sunday but on arrival back to the hotel the stench was again noticeable from the outside. What are they trying to hide to need that strong an air freshener? I spent the weekend unwell and almost a week later am still not 100%
The restaurant staff need some sort of basic training like you do not pass plates of food across people who are eating and if one of a party does not order a starter you don't bring their main out while the rest are just beginning their starters. Some of our group were not told about hot puddings and had to ask.
Having said that the hotel itself was clean.
The quiet room is upstairs so its handy for those with mobility issues and it isn't a room. Its an area in a corridor where people walk through to and from their rooms.
My room had a window at the foot of the bed and I could sit in bed and watch people walking the corridor opposite and give them a cheery wave and they waved to me. Some privacy film on the corridor window would have been nice.
I would not recommend.

Response from Burlington Hotel, Owner at The Burlington Hotel
Responded 30 Sept 2022
Thank you for your rather sarcastic almost irrelevant review. Firstly we would not want you to return to the hotel based on your behaviour whilst you were here, and the fact that your group paid absolute minimal money to be here, yet had the stance of people that had paid 5* prices. We embarrassingly received numerous complaints from our other coach party about the total lack of disrespect in which our dining room staff were treated during your stay. These members of your group should be ashamed. Our Dining Room staff work incredibly hard and instead of disrespecting such young and inexperienced people, and basically laughing at them, you should be encouraging them. You obviously have no basic knowledge of how hard it is to work in the hospitality sector at the moment or how hard it is to retain staff, so I shall leave this point here so as not to embarrass you further. Now to address your "migraine". If I had of been affected by anything in the hotel that had caused this, I certainly would have raised this as a matter of concern straight away and not left if until you returned home. With your migraine you managed to get up every day, have breakfast and attend a Bowls tournament, come back to the hotel, eat your evening meal and then attend the evening entertainment. Now I dont suffer from migraines, and as you state in your review, you dont suffer from them either, but I'm sure you would not have been able to achieve the things you did during your stay if you were that poorly. The air freshner we use is 100% chemical free and keeps our new interior fresh and clean smelling at all times. Maybe this is something you arent used to at home, but here, we like to ensure freshness due to the high volumes of guests through our doors on a daily basis. I really cannot see an issue with this, and again, had this of caused you ANY problems at all, why did you not come and see me or tell your group organiser? Afterall, that was what he was there for. To move onto our lovely and very different quiet lounge. This is not designed for people with or without disabilities. Its a room with a difference. Would you had any ideas where else to put it?? I think most people would walk through any type of lounge, but in this case, guests that take the wrong route through the hotel to get to their rooms, namely yourself, would walk through it. This is such a pointless statement. One thing you do fail to mention is your departure day. You had an accident in Reception, and when your own group walked past you when you were on the floor, we were the people there to put you into a recovery position and call 999 for you. We were the only ones that looked after you, with no thank you whatsoever, which wasnt surprising. So you see, if you are to write a bad review about any hotel, it always has more substance when its balanced out with the good things. If only there was such a thing as "Guest Advisor" where hotels get the chance to review guests as guests do hotels. It would make for some amusing reading and would also encourage better behaviour from guests when staying in someone elses "home"!!!!

Positives first the food was very good both breakfast and evening meals for the duration of our stay .
Bed comfortable apart from the soft pillows (my opinion) and made daily .
We had a door out into the garden near the bar.
Reception area and out front very tidy
Tea coffee and biscuits in the room daily
Breakfast...just like a free for all as everyone had only an hour to eat (staff shortages apparently)
With us being near the bar area everyone was having to push past and queue near us for toast cereals and hot drinks goodness knows how nobody got a hot drink spilt down them it's a miracle
Knives forks and spoons over near the hot food queue this would be much better somewhere in the middle of the restaurant
Room...quilt cover marked on the top looked like blood from us getting there
Very dated bathroom and with me being 6 foot couldn't sit properly on the toilet but on the plus side could wash my feet when there
Room not cleaned properly a biscuit wrapper was under the side of the bed and crumbs on the carpet all through our stay.
Mirror dirty
Board on the back of the door for the cleaner to tick cobwebs was ticked I think it was to say there was one over half of the bathroom window for our full stay tiles and pipework filthy down the side of the shower needs blocking in

We went on coach trip for 4 days and stayed at The Burlington hotel which is in a very good location just a couple of minutes to beach. We were given a room with a double bed and a single although we booked a double. Room looked directly onto a brick wall and had the smallest en suite and smallest shower cubicle, in avocado. We had asked for a quiet room and this we got. Towels were large and fluffy, plenty of hangers and drawers. Food was british, good quality and plentiful, the evenng mains being ordered at breakfast. We had a drinks package with coupons valid 6pm to 9pm, bar opened to 11pm. There is an enclosed rear garden with tables and chairs for relaxing after evening meal. Evening entertainment is club style with bingo at 9pm. The hotel staff are very friendly and soon replaced a faulty hair dryer. Easy walk from Sandown to Shanklin and bus to Ventnor. We had a lovely time.

Safes are provided in our family and deluxe double rooms. Shampoo, body wash and soap are provided.
Thank you for your question. You would need to make contact with the channel that you made your booking with and request to modify and make changes to it.
Good morning
Due to extensive damage by the previous owner of the hotel, and the running/maintenance costs we have taken the decision not to reopen the swimming pool and to reinvest further money into the hotel itself.
With best wishes
Sarah
