Well on arriving we were not greeted by anyone, just a key safe, which apparently I should have had an email with a code for it before our arrival but i did not, so i dialled the required number for help from a member of staff, only to have to try 5 times before i got an answer. Finally got access to the key and went to the 'room' . Walked in to find the wrong type of bed, I have booked a twin room and we found we were in a double, I should mention here that we are not a couple, it was my carer and I, we need to be in the same room in case something happens and then she is on hand straight away. We then call the number asking why we are in a double to be told that the room originally booked was in the main house which had problems with a fire door and closed to guests the rest of the month, they should have rung me the day before when this happened to ask if a double was suitable and they had not done this. We asked for just a mattress on the floor for my carer, to be told when they rung back after speaking to management that this was not possible as there were none available, then there were no clean sheets available, then they couldn't do it until the following day and then they couldn't do this at all! Between all these phone calls we looked over the room and bathroom to find ripped wallpaper hanging from the ceiling over the bed with black mould showing underneath, the bathroom was disgusting, brown stains in the sink, mould on the grouting in places around the bath, the shower head constantly leaking/dripping almost to a trickle and flooring that was lifting due to damp/wet just outside the bathroom door. Now I don't mind cheap and cheerful as we travel on a budget anyway, but the more we waited and saw the more we wanted out of there, which as it happens, is what transpired. The one good thing was there was no issue getting a full refund so we could find somewhere else suitable to stay.
It could be a lovely place but standards are not good and it needs a thorough clean and re decorate and dry out. I won't be trying this place again.

We stayed in the hotel for 6 nights in the “coachman suite”
Room was large and clean. Bathroom was also large and clean. Water was always hot.
The decor was a bit dated, but that gave it it’s character.
The garden was nice and tidy. There was no restaurant, but we were offered pastries and a coffee for breakfast.
There was no staff on site so we got our room key from a key safe using a code that was sent to us in advance, which worked well.
The staff we did see were helpful and friendly.

Nice location would definitely visit again.

I’m sure some people have stayed at the Columba and had a really good stay, but there was just a few too many niggles that in all honesty could be fixed so easily, that just made this a little disappointing. Nothing major, and to be clear, the room was clean, tidy and secure.

First impressions were not good. A massive pile of dirt half blocked the only door into our room. In fact, we had to make our way around the dirt pile to even see which room ours was. This was after we’d driven up a very winding frozen & slippy drive up to the hotel parking. Granted, this was Christmas Eve when the temperature was -3, but I do not recall seeing any description about the driveway.

Once in, the room was exceptionally cold. We turned the heating up and went out for tea and to visit family in the hopes the room would warm up. It did not.

That evening & Christmas morning was the point we discovered a few more problems. The Shower head was locked in its lowest position, so unless you were 3 foot tall, it was impossible to get under it. Attempts to raise the shower all failed. We then quickly discovered the Blocked drain, which meant most showers then required a ‘paddle’ in an inch of water. Later we discovered that hot water was only available at certain times (presumably when the heating was on, which got switched off at night).

A few other niggles such as the TV being set to Polish language (and set to 4:3 ratio!) as well as a broken Kettle and No spoon was blummin’ annoying.

All in, a bit disappointing and we were glad to leave. Can’t recommend unless everywhere else is booked up, which was why we booked.

A great location that allows you to view the village from many angles. When we entered, the heater was on and the room was immaculate, making us feel at home. extremely spaceful and with a light, airy feel. Our five-year-old daughter could comfortably sleep in our bed without feeling crowded. I heartily suggest it!

we booked a 3 night stay here at a cost of £412.50. (only managed 2 nights we couldn't stomach a 3rd) i didn't read any reviews and just presumed that with it being one of the more expensive hotels it would be nice.......... I WAS WRONG!!
on arrival we couldn't find any staff on site at all to assist with the electronic key box.
we entered the room which looked like it hadn't been cleaned from the previous occupant's. the bed was scruffy and room generally untidy.
only 1 coffee sachet and it was open.
mattress was very uncomfy and gave me a bad back.
the "wet room" bathroom didn't drain properly so all around the toilet was wet constantly.
the shower was cold and dirty.
walls and doors paper thin so could hear everything in adjoining rooms including a dog that barked non stop.
hole in the wall over near the chair and generally run down bad decor and dated furniture.
"house keeping visit" consisted of leaving 2 small bottles of drinking water and 2 lotus biscuits. towels and bedding where left untouched and no fresh toilet rolls left.

only plus points really was good carpark and lovely village and surrounding towns and quick easy access to the A9.
i wouldn't recommend anyone staying here there are lots of nicer places nearby for less money.

I was disappointed. The hotel was advertised as having a restaurant, and even received a menu attached to a welcome email on day of arrival, it was closed without explanation. No sign of a bar. I went next morning for breakfast but all was locked up with no one in the premises to explain. The main property is very run down and deserted feeling, however the room was warm and clean and I suppose what did I expect for the price.

Firstly it was self check which would have been fine if the doors were clearly labelled to be able to enter the property. Secondly the lock in my door jammed and as no staff were on site I was sent a video on how to unlock a Yale lock. This was unhelpful as the door lock had jammed and I was unable to open it. A member of staff came to the property within 15 mins which was helpful and forced the lock open with some brute force. Unfortunately no other room was available so I stayed in this room. The property is being renovated ( or run into the ground) so no catering facilities on site. The doors were temporary MDF doors. To add insult to injury there was no hot water in the morning and the management were unable to get this resolved therefore I left.

brilliant, the key safe check in system was so efficient. Booking, check in and leaving was so smooth. All the information I needed was right there. The extra touches like grab and go coffee in the morning was very welcome. Although i didnt interact with any staff I could tell the hotel had went to a lot of effort to look after their guests.

Everything was great. If i could offer some very minor advice. A blind over door window might be nice (a lot of light comes in from courtyard) and couldve done with a hook on bathroom door to hang clothes/towel. But I have to stress that didnt detract from the fantastic experience we had. A brilliant stay. we will be back

Disliked · Worst place I’ve stayed in Scotland! Shower was a disaster. Overwhelming smell of raw sewage coming from the bathroom all night long. Completely disgusting level of cleanliness. JD the guy who sends check in information and the person on the end of the phone for problems! Has a serious lack of customer service and comes across as rude and simply doesn’t care! So if you have a problem during your stay you’re wasting your time calling him. Rear garden looks like it hasn’t been cut for months! Dead pigeon in the garden, I did see a face plant on the window which could’ve caused his death! But pigeons only usually make this mistake with clean windows so I guess this unfortunate soul was blind as the windows are as filthy as the rest of the place. The company that owns this place needs to look seriously at all these issues and my stay was in the height of the summer period when an extra effort would be expected for the prices paid. I’m a hotel manager myself with 20 years experience looking for a job in the Highlands so if the company is reading this then give me a call 👍🏻

Great spacious room. Ideal for our elderly labrador as on ground floor and loads of room to put his bed down. Great Internet connection. Stayed 2 nights and it was a perfect location for a trip to Aviemore and the surrounding area. It was tucked away and was quiet and bed was very comfortable. The grab and go breakfast was a great touch and the auto check in and out with the key safe worked perfectly with our 4am start on leaving. The local town was quiet but offered a few options for cafes and a pub or two but limited opening times. Convenience store and a great community charity shop nearby. Stayed 2 nights fantastic value. Will definitely stay again. This time was on the way home after a long trip through the hybrids and was great to have a comfy bed and room to relax in before a long drive home.
