From the moment we were met at the train station by Esther we knew we were going to have a great stay. She gave us a quick tour of her beautiful house, with amazing library where we would dine in evening and breakfast and the living room which was warmly furnished with comfy leather sofas and chairs. Through a sliding door in the living room was a room stocked with wines and liquors available for the guests to purchase and enjoy. Our upstairs room, The Leslie, had beautiful view out front where you could see the Fort/barracks in the distance. Beautiful bed with fluffy linens, and gas fireplace, desk and ample comfy chairs. Complementary whiskey from the region, coffee and teas. The bathroom was a treat: full freestanding tub and huge separate shower. Bathrobes and slippers encouraged us to relax! We were fortunate to have booked prior to August after which dinners would not be available to guests. Esther served us a six course gourmet meal which was truly amazing: huge, perfectly pan seared scallops, freshly baked bread accompanied the delicate soup course; choice of venison or chicken - both delicious ; desserts of lime meringue and strawberry cake wedge with berry coulis with lovely cheeses to finish the perfect dinner. Breakfast was equally well prepared, accompanied with French pressed coffee, fresh berries and yogurt and warm bread that Esther had made earlier that morning. Unfortunately we had a very very short stay at the Viewmount and we wished for longer. We left some things in the room and Esther contacted us immediately and arranged for them to be sent by post to our location a few days ahead. We were so appreciative! Thank you Esther for the wonderful stay and hospitality!

After touring the Highlands for a few days we were privileged to spend a night in the truly glorious Viewmount guest house. From the moment we arrived our host Esther showered us with kindness, her incredible attention to detail ensured we had everything we required and so much more at our finger tips.

The house is magnificent, our bedroom was luxurious and comfortable, with a breath taking view of the snow capped mountains. Our ensuite bathroom was amazing, complete with fluffy towels, soft robes and beautiful toiletries. Downstairs we relaxed in the drawing room taking in the views and enjoying Esther's generous hospitality and we were served a delicious breakfast in the library the following morning.

There is a wonderful sense of calm and tranquillity in the house. Our stay at The Viewmount was without doubt the highlight of our visit to Scotland, & we look forward to our next visit!

The Viewmount has been beautifully renovated. The rooms and bathroom are very spacious. The beds are extremely comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and Esther is a warm and generous host. She thinks of all the little things that make guests feel at home. We were offered a complimentary drink on the evening we arrived and found a wee bit of whisky in the room, and Esther’s wine cellar is full of amazing South African wines. Esther will enthusiastically help arrange any activity you may be interested in, but we unfortunately had to rush to our next destination to avoid a snowstorm. If you find yourself in or near charming Kingussie, The Viewmount should be at the top of your accommodation list!

The Viewmount was easily the best overnight stay in our 10-day trip through Scotland - the warmest welcome, finest surroundings and most delicious gourmet meal. Still savouring the chicken in champagne and leeks. In the décor, the attention to detail all adds up to a treat for the senses. A great launching pad to see the nearby historic Ruthven Barracks, go biking or hiking in Cairngorms National Park, and visit the outdoors Highland Folk Museum just up the road. But also, The Viewmount is, itself, a worthy destination and experience. Be sure to book far in advance - you'll be competing with others for the few rooms available.

The Viewmount was wonderful. Ester was an amazing host who paid attention to all the little details to make the stay exceptional. The house and room were beautifully but comfortably decorated. A lovely evening snack and drink was provided. Breakfast the following morning was the best we had during our trip. I can't wait to go back and spend more time just relaxing.

After a seamless journey from London’s King X we were warmly greeted on the Platform by Esther and within 8 minutes we saw The Viewmount’s chandeliers sparkling through the windows.
We knew as soon as we stepped into the spacious hallway we were going to have a wonderful New Year (Hogmanay )break. Esther showed us to our rooms they were fabulous with huge cloud like beds the en-suite the size of my London flat! A delightful view of the snow capped Grampians ,the cherry on the top. Each evening Esther asked what we would like for breakfast & at what time? We were served in the Library another wonderful view. It was always on time with delicious fresh local produce. There is so much to see and do around the area we hardly scratched the surface so thankfully it means we have to return. Esther went above & beyond to make our stay a magical one. The Viewmount abounds with ambiance & tranquility. We will be back!

What an amazing place! Beautifully restored with attention to detail and sensitivity to the history of the building. Spent a weekend with friends in this Scottish gem. We had long chats around the table in the library/diningroom with its huge bookshelf and a gorgeous view across the Grampians, enjoyed the setting sun in the garden and had late night discussions cosied up in the lounge with a glass or two of wine. Esther’s hosting is superb. Breakfast was delicious. I stayed in The Reid, a large room with a little sitting area and huge ensuite. Lots of space for my stuff! The bed was very comfortable with the puffiest, squashable bedding and beautiful bedcovers. I woke up refreshed. We explored the walking trails, forest and stream nearby, walked down to the Co-op and had a fun time at the local monthly market. I will definitely be back and looking forward to experience more of this part of Scotland. Highly recommended.

We splurged to stay at this beautiful inn and I’m so glad we did. The views from the porch across the valley are stunning. The owner, Esther, has superb taste and has lovingly restored this home to make it warm and inviting. There are no cramped quarters here, just spacious rooms and over-sized baths. No need to go to a gallery because Esther has curated a fine collection of original pieces that are beautifully displayed throughout the home. Breakfast was so good we decided not to eat lunch. And all of this is served up by the kindest innkeeper I have ever met. So glad we came, so sad we had to leave.

How can I possibly improve upon the well deserved 5* reviews already posted? I fully endorse all that has been written thus far. The welcome and warmth of the host Esther is outstanding. The accommodation is not only luxurious but every attention paid to detail making this experience all about your comfort.

What is worth mentioning is that there is complimentary charging for your electric vehicle. No complications, no extra cables just plug in and it works.

There is no “if” you come back it’s just the “when.” Unbelievable stay - Thankyou Esther.

A year ago exactly we stayed and reviewed that stay (5/5) and such is the success of The Viewmount that we should have asked sooner for our next stay. As The Viewmount was fully booked we had to get our “Viewmount fix” through an exquisite afternoon tea complete with hand baked patisserie by Esther. This is open to the public (pre booking only) and we understand that afternoon tea is popular with small groups for special occasions, and having sampled it today I can see why. We are looking forward to returning to stay but in the meantime I can recommend the tea experience.
