Since the hotel was taken over ownership in 2008 we have gone through a refurbishment programme and now offer both Deluxe and Premier rooms individually designed to a high standard with unique features, most with sea views. Enjoy a relaxing drink or bite to eat in our Cwtch bar/lounge with views overlooking Caldey Island. Our restaurant is open to the public and for residents of the hotel throughout the year including Christmas Day. We're a short walk from the historic walled town of Tenby and a stone throw away from Tenby's South Beach with spectacular sea views overlooking Caldey Island. We have a small car park at the rear of the hotel with 14 parking spaces.

We booked a couple of nights at the Giltar to celebrate a significant anniversary, so decided to splash out on a Deluxe room with a sea view. When you spend a significant sum (for us) on a hotel room for a couple of nights you then start hoping it lives up to your expectations, we weren’t disappointed!
We arrived several hours ahead of our check-in time but managed to find space in the small car park at the rear and were told by the friendly receptionist that it was fine to leave the car there and go for a wander until it was time to check-in.
The friendliness of the staff was a recurring theme throughout the weekend, everyone from the owner, the reception staff, bar staff and dining staff were super friendly, polite and helpful.
Our room, once we returned and checked in was stunning! We were given the St Margarets room on the third floor which was huge! It was tastefully decorated with a large bath in the corner and a smart and modern bathroom with a walk-in shower. The bay windows looked across the South Beach and out to sea.
Bath robes were provided for each of us (although mine was threadbare on the collar and probably at the end of its life), plenty of towels and a good selection of teas and coffee.
The king size bed was wonderfully comfortable, and we had no trouble sleeping, it was lovely to drift off and then wake up to the sound of the waves crashing onto the beach below us.
Our booking included breakfast which provided an array of continental options – fruit, yoghurt, pastries etc and a “Full Welsh” with all the usual ingredients. Have to specially mention the scrambled egg which can often be rubbery and overcooked in hotels, however here it was creamy, soft and obviously freshly cooked to order. My only slightly negative comment was the terribly downbeat background music playing though breakfast that drew wry smiles and comments from several guests around us. You don’t want music blasting at you while you eat but something a little more cheery and upbeat to start the day would be welcome!
Drinks in the bar weren’t overpriced in the current climate and we found the lounge a comfortable place to enjoy a drink before going out for the evening and then again on our return.
The hotel location is perfect, little to no passing traffic in the early morning and late evenings, a 3 minute walk to the town wall but far enough away from the drunken revellers we witnessed enjoying all Tenby has to offer on Saturday evening!
The hotel and our room in particular made our anniversary weekend something very special (the anniversary card we received on arrival was also much appreciated!). We would definitely return here when we next stay on Tenby and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hotel to family and friends.

Very conveniently situated on the esplanade overlooking the sea. Close to the town center as well. Parking is a few minutes walk away and is £7 for 24 hours. Friendly staff welcomed us at our designated check in time observing COVID regulations. Lots of sanitizers all over the hotel and there is a one way entry and exit system. Our room was clean and tidy and had tea, coffee and hot chocolate sachets along with a kettle and tea pot. There was a hairdryer and shower gel and shampoo/conditioner was supplied in individual sachets. Tv in the room as well. There is free wi-fi but we had a problem connecting but didn’t worry too much about it and didn’t query. You get given a breakfast menu which you then phone reception to order and it gets delivered to your room. The breakfast was very good. They also offer a limited dinner menu but we chose to eat out. The bathroom is quite small as you can only use the basin if you close the door, but it’s really all you need. Price of room was very reasonable and I would highly recommend staying here.

From the start of our stay until we left - all staff were friendly and attentive, especially the girl that worked in the restaurant everyday ( she did not stop). Breakfast was pre-ordered the night before and a time slot - it was good as we tried different items instead of having the full English, all orders were correct and if you wanted extra it was no problem, all food was very good. Had afternoon tea at the hotel which again was a good experience and valve for money. All the downstairs areas have been upgraded but due to restrictions have less seating and feels stark. As you venture upstairs the hotel does look dated with old fashioned carpets and decor needs abit of work. We did have a small sea view room and were aware it was just a standard but it is due to be upgraded (we did see one of the deluxe rooms and they looked excellent). We did have afew issues with the room but were very quickly sorted out. Even though they have a small limited car park to the rear we had no problems parking also free parking on the roadside. We would go again as these family run hotels do deserve our support.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a thorough review, particularly highlighting our wonderful staff and the value for money. You'll be pleased to know that updating our carpets in the public areas is a high priority for the next phase of our refurbishment. We'd also like to thank you for highlighting any issues you had during your stay as it is important to us as a large hotel that customers are able to do this, allowing us to address them promptly so as not to spoil your stay. Thank you for your support. It is very much appreciated. We do hope to see you again soon, hopefully in one of our luxurious and spacious Deluxe rooms.

Hotel in a very convenient location. Stayed in room 101 which is a recently refurbished room at the rear of the hotel. The room was spotless, the bed was huge and really comfortable the one disappointment was the actual shower not a great flow and it merely had a sprinkler system so you could not adjust or hold it in your hand. Why after spending good money on the room you would then install such a poor shower puzzled me. Everyone we came into contact with was switched on and efficient, as was the hotel's response to Covid. The big disappointment was the breakfast, when your served cheap catering anemic baked beans, it's just penny-pinching. The toast was warmed up bread and the sausage and bacon were also cheap. Did I eat it?...Yes. Did I enjoy it?.... No. Would I stay there again? Yes, but only if breakfast was not included in the price and id walk to a cafe. Charge a pound more for your breakfast and get decent ingredients. Would add the sea views for those staying at the front would be worth the extra.

We have stayed in the Giltar before and love its setting - overlooking the South Beach and just a few minutes from the centre of town. The staff were helpful and pleasant - especially those serving in the restaurant and bar, and the food was great.
However we paid extra - £135 a night for a room and breakfast and it was just totally lacking in any 'Wow' factor. The room was small and mean. The toiletries very cheap and the TV tiny.
It did have a great view of the sea which was a plus but I wouldn't recommend paying £70 more (we stayed for two nights) just for the view.

We're sorry to hear that you feel the size of the room, tv and toiletries resulted in your stay being disappointing. We're very fortunate to have such wonderful views over South Beach and Caldey Island and be just a short walk from the centre on the town. All of our Premier rooms are of a similar style, design and style. Had you stayed with us before you would have been familiar with these rooms therefore we are confused as to how this would have come as a surprise to you. To clarify for anyone reading this review, the price difference for 2 nights in a non-sea view premier room and a sea view premier room is £25 per night (not £32.50 as mentioned)

We stayed at the GILTAR for 2nights including New Years Eve, we booked in August because the hotel advertised a Gala dinner and an evening show titled the Rat Pack, which, we both liked. The Gala dinner whilst was enjoyable took two and a half hours to be served which took up most of New Year’s Eve and therefore we had approx an hour and half to enjoy the show. We were a little disappointed to see that instead of the anticipated trio as the Rat Pack we quickly realised there was just the one solitary singer who did his best to keep us entertained. We stayed in room 805 which was ok except for a few minor annoyances, the bathroom door did not close properly, the shower screen seal had worn out and therefore every time we showered the bathroom floor became soaked and finally the dressing table lamp didn’t work. Overall although the staff are friendly and extremely helpful, we were disappointed considering we have had great stays here in the past.

We picked the Giltar Hotel for
It’s location, situated on the Esplanade overlooking the sea.
We understood that some of the rooms were undergoing refurbishment and acknowledged that the price we paid reflected the room we were given.
It was small and did get really warm, but we were given a fan as soon as we asked for one. the wall dividing our room from next door was really thin which meant we heard their tv quite clearly. But these thin walls are being taken down in the refurbishment programme. We did have a couple of “niggles” in the room but they were dealt with immediately.
The staff at this hotel are all really lovely, very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was great - we had breakfast each day and the selection was good. We also enjoyed an afternoon tea (something to do on a rainy day!) - that was really scrumptious! We will definitely book here again but would rather pay extra for a refurbished room.

We appreciate that you flagged up your 'niggles' with us in order for us to address them promptly. We look forward to seeing you back at the hotel in the near future.

Firstly the housekeepers deserve a medal. The room was spotless. Absolutely sterling job. In this climate they have done the manager proud. I cannot fault the cleanliness of the hotel and the rooms

On the average side the hotel is very dated and needs a few little tweaks. The hallway carpets are victorian. They are so out of date it's almost funny.

Now the bad.

The menu sounds lovely and seemingly about the right price, until you get the meal. Then you feel a real sense of disappointment.

I ordered the belly pork £18 and my wife the sea bass £17.

My belly pork was about 2" square. The accompanying dauphinoise was about half the size and about 2cm high. Smothered in what was clearly bought in gravy mix that once it cooled turned to the texture of cold custard.

That's bad. The so called vegetable selection was broccoli cooked to within an inch of its life. One carrot. Overcooked mange tout and peas that were so overcooked they were bright yellow. To make matters worse they were just thrown on the plate with the finesse ofa sumo wrestler..

It was hot and it filled a gap but for £35 it was seriously overpriced for the standard of cooking that went into it.

Desserts. White chocolate and raspberry torte. Vegan dark chocolate torte and carrot cake roulade.. Three Desserts and if you don't like raspberries then you are stuffed. No hot desert. No cheese and biscuits.

If the food could match the cleanliness of the rooms they would have a belting restaurant. As it is the rooms we're lovely. The staff great but the food is a huge let down.

Firstly, thank you for recognising the hard work that our team of housekeepers do. As you have witnessed and experienced first-hand, cleanliness within the hotel is of high importance to us. We recognise the need to update the carpets and had planned to do this during the spring, however due to the uncertainty of the pandemic we did not proceed with this, however it is most certainly in our plans for 2021. We’re sorry that you weren’t satisfied with our a la carte dishes & menu choices. Our dishes are designed and cooked by our team of chefs where our focus is quality rather than quantity, however had you requested more vegetables we would have been more than happy to have accommodated you at not extra cost. It's a shame that your concerns were not flagged up at the time of your visit as we would have done our best to address them.

Stayed at The Giltar for one night in one of the refurbished rooms on the 4 th floor with an amazing sea view. The room was huge with a sofa, table and chairs and 2 t.v’s and the bed was very comfortable. We had to phone pre arrival to arrange a check in time to avoid queues forming which I thought was a good idea and then we pre ordered our breakfast food and selected a time slot for the morning. Breakfast was delicious and hot, couldn’t ask for more. There is a pay and display car park a 2 minute walk from the hotel and at £7 for 24 hrs I found this very reasonable.

A lovely setting but if you’re in the back of the hotel, you’ll have a view of the car park which is plain at best. Don’t be fooled by the modern pictures and the pictures of beautiful views across to Caldey.

The hotel was clean, the staff were lovely (apart from checkout where we were snapped at for checking out late - 10.30am is checkout, which is a bit early if you ask me…). The breakfast tastes lovely but is tiny. You’ll have one of everything and it’s a choice of English breakfast or continental - you can’t have both or a mix and match!

We joked that we’d eat at the hotel in the morning and then go for some breakfast afterwards…

The lift is very slow, rooms old fashioned but it’s nice enough if you aren’t staying at the hotel. I’d say the hotel is overpriced for what it is and you’d be better off paying the same to stay somewhere nicer/more modern and with a better breakfast service.

There are a couple photos on the hotel’s website of deluxe rooms. Not certain which of those is a deluxe single. We had a premier double with sea view and it was fine.
