Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Bit dated hotel but spotless clean lovely views . Staff are really helpful it was a tribute weekend buffet style breakfast and dinner great value for money.Id highly recommend this hotel . Great location next to bars and takeaway shops. The drinks weren't extortionate considering its a hotel. More like pub prices.

We stayed for 1 night check in was 3:30 but we arrived early at 2:30pm. The hotel looked really quiet with no quests anywhere so my partner asked if we could check in early. The receptionist said no which is fine but I know for a fact the room was ready but that’s fine fair enough check in was 3:30. The room had a lovely view of the front and was spacious, the bath room shower was so powerful! We all felt nice and refreshed after a shower. The beds however were not comfortable in the slightest. The mattress was heavily stained, bed sheets hard and the room was boiling! We all didn’t sleep well. Breakfast was a little too early for us 7-9:30am but we did enjoy the breakfast and there were a lot of options. I would have preferred some more fruit options not just pineapple and apples. Overall an average stay and worth what we paid for the night. We would come back at the price we paid.

One of only two hotels we prefer to stay at when in Southport. Situated right on the esplanade it is ideally suited for the gardens, fair, shopping - either in town or the nearby retail park which is 10-15 minutes stroll over the lake bridge. On arrival greeted by Kitty it was a lovely surprise to spot the yukky lounge bar furniture has GONE, replaced by beautiful leather chesterfield sofas throughout; I usually bring a blanket out of the car to sit on … yay I no longer need to :) We prefer a room at the front (referred to as ‘seaview’ 😳😂) so we can watch any fireworks displays that may be on but also in the early hours I like to watch the world go by with a coffee while hubby catches up on his sleep. So we were initially disappointed not to get one of the front rooms (you have to request one) on this occasion our room was ground floor and at the back BUT appeared newly decorated and we soon spotted we had the bonus of a terrace with garden furniture, an unexpected surprise! Our room situated at the bottom of the stairs it was quite a noisy on the corridor outside with unsupervised children playing at jumping off the last few steps right outside our door, running around and shouting (having fun), but as they were part of a very large group we decided not to complain and just turned our tv up, we’re both hard of hearing anyway. Top tip *** bring an extension as neither the mirror or dressing table are near a socket for hair dryer / straighteners also for using & charging a mobile or tablet in bed - I forgot to pack one. It was disheartening to see visitors encouraging their dogs up on the obviously new sofas - we were not impressed they didn’t put a blanket on :(

Stayed 4 nights in a sea view room which was spacious and great view overlooking the gardens and pleasure land amusement park. Also lovely view of sun sets. Stayed on a dinner and breakfast basis and all food buffet style self service. Well presented and plenty of choice. Excellent value for money and cheaper than eating out in Southport. Breakfast served until 10.30 am at weekends so no rush to get up in a morning which is great. Lovely to see new furniture in the lounge and a trunk of games to play if you want to! Plenty of tea coffee etc. to help yourself to for your room, at reception. Staff here very friendly and hard working, and hotel very clean and tidy. Britannia, you get a lot of negative feedback but well done for the improvements you are making here. The best I have seen it as it was VERY run down before you purchased the hotel. Thank you for a lovely stay. X

Stayed for 2 nights early march. Arrived about midday and room was ready. Was pleasantly surprised at the lovely spacious room we were given. Was expecting a twin standard and got a triple front facing 1st floor with lovely views. Staff were all really helpful and pleasant. Overall we had a lovely break and would definitely return.

Came for the uk breaks tribute weekend with Tom Jones and Gary Barlow both ok but saw an older Tom at Bosworth last year who was brilliant. Couldn't fault the hotel rooms clean tidy and comfortable even had radiators in in the wardrobe incase it wasn't warm enough. Staff were friendly and helpful even when coping with a rather inebriated lady , evening meal and breakfast was quite good. Hotel a bit dated in places but could see it was having a spruce up in places.

What a totally disappointing experience. The hotel was in total disarray with building work going on and we had to walk through it to get to our room. The room was at the back of the hotel. The furniture was probably from the 70s. It was very dark and gloomy. The free wifi is ONLY available in the public areas. Otherwise there is a charge of £7 per person for access in your room. The website did not mention anything about building work. The receptionist did not tell us about building works. We were advised when we complained that there is a notice on the reception desk regarding the work. This ‘notice’ is on A4 paper and unreadable from any sort of distance, particularly if like me, your eyesight isn’t good and your partner is dyslexic. The website showed pictures of lovely bright spacious rooms. Basically it was all false advertising. Needless to say we did not stay and we didn’t get offered a refund.

Bought this 2 night stay as a gift, after reading reviews we was not expecting much, Pleasly surprised, yes the hotel is going through refurbishment slowly, but the room was clean and warm , never had a problem with hot water, good at the hotel was good, all budget style but good and piping hot, Entertainment was available, All in all we had a very pleasant weekend. For what our daughter paid for the 2 night bed breakfast and evening meal, True value for money and 2 drinks for the price of one until 10 pm, This of course slowed the service at the bar but no more than a few minutes wait.

I'm disabled and they gave a room with shower in Bath. You have to pay for WiFi £7 a night. We come a couple of times a year and WiFi has always been free . The breakfast is cold not very good whitch you have to pay £10. Plus £5 parking . The hotel chain are trying to get ever penny out of you . It used to be a reasonable priced hotel not no more . There are better ones for the same price.
