Room was a good size, it was clean (our cleaner was Khyla) spa was great, used all facilities there and had an amazing massage from Vicki. Breakfast was good, afternoon tea nice, dinner was disappointing with limited menu. Plus, I am gluten free and although g/f bread was available for breakfast and afternoon tea with some nice g/f cakes, there was very limited g/f options for dinner. Hubby (who is not g/f) was also disappointed in dinner menu.

This was our third visit, although the last two times were many years ago. We were allocated a deluxe room on the 3rd floor with a great view over the town and beyond. We were very pleased with our room the chairs and the bed were very comfortable. The shower and the bath were excellent with oodles of hot water. We were looking forward our evening meal. We were seated close to a doorway. When we were asked if the table was suitable for us, my Husband asked if there would be human traffic behind him he was assured that no there wouldnt be - this was not the case. We took this up with the waitress herself advising of our displeasure. The service was extremely slow we must have waited well over 30 minutes for our sharing bread basket and olives. We were booked for 7pm and didn't return to our room till well after 9pm and and we certainly did not loiter after our meal. The food when we got it was very nice. We had an allocation for our dinner with any drinks over and above. At the end of the meal we asked if there was snything to sign for but were advised no. We knew we had gone slightly over our allocation but were not aware of by how much. When we came to check out the bills had already been made up and were not itemised so it was very difficult to question. We had a reduction of 15% on drinks, but had no way of questioning if this had been applied was this because we ordered these with dinner/had we ordered these at the bar would this discount have been applied we will never know. We were pleasantly surprised that breakfast was a much more enjoyable experience than dinner had been

Hotel was grand to look at on the outside but our room was very tired and in desperate need of a refurb, beds were very uncomfortable felt loke a well worn mattress, shower was rubish and bathroom could do with upgrading. Bar prices were very expensive so we drank elswhere because of this. Breakfast was average. Leisure facilities old but usable.

The staff were all very friendly, helpful and extremely competent during my stay, especially when I had an unplanned accident at the hotel and they organised the appropriate emergency services who carted me off to a local A & E dept. A huge thanks to the staff on the reception desk, at the Leisure Centre pool, and to the managerial staff (under manager) who assisted me. My grandkids loved the pool and the family room!

This was our 3rd stay but sadly our last as our experience wasn't as expected from a Hotel of this standard. Our room was clean but basic, bathroom was really dated and grubby! In need of a complete makeover. Dinner wasn't great either. My main was chicken schnitzel with fried egg and chips, egg yolk was hard so asked for another. Chips were lukewarm & schnitzel was overcooked and tough! Waitress asked if there was a problem as I barely ate any of it, I explained what I thought of it & she just took away our plates & said she would mention it to chef!!! I refused to pay a service charge of £6.95 as I felt the service wasn't up to the standards of the Hotel. Never been asked to pay a service charge on our last 2 visits!!! Breakfast was fine I suppose, bacon was solid, sausages not nice at all. Thank god for the cold buffet.

Staff were lovely very friendly. We stayed in a king room. Unfortunately the hotel room looked 3 star at best. It’s very run down, bathroom was mouldy and in need of a good clean and updating. The bed itself was a “king” which was 2 single beds pushed together and they are obviously very old mattresses as we could feel all the springs. The travel cot provided had a little kids duvet and pillow which was perfect for our toddler. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the children’s chicken nuggets were excellent, home made ones. Unfortunately the ribeye steaks came with a sauce which was buttery and no option for the usual steak Diane or peppercorn sauce, no vegetables or mushrooms on side either just very basic which was not the best when paying £29 for a steak. We used the pool facilities which were good however the pool was very cold. Overall we are sad to say we wouldn’t return.

Never in my life have I seen a more run down, dingy, grim hotel. This place needs a serious refurb to be considered 4*. It is dirty and dilapidated. Tiles cracked, carpets worn away, mould everywhere, curtains hanging off the window, wallpaper peeling off walls. I am beyond shocked this place is still operating! You’d be better spending the night sleeping in your car than spending a night in this hotel!!!

We stayed at the hotel on Easter Sunday. Parking was fine. Room was fine, but appeared that restaurant was understaffed. On waiting to be seated for dinner, staff were reluctant to make eye contact and acknowledge that we were waiting to be seated. There were less than six tables occupied and three members of staff on duty but they gave the impression of being busy and overworked. The food was very nice and our main gripe was that when the bill arrived a service charge of around 12% had already been added and there was still an expectancy on the bill for a gratuity. Having questioned the "discretionary service charge" which was automatically added, it was removed. The restaurant manager explained that this had been introduced when a new menu was recently launched and that it was displayed on the menu. It was displayed on the menu but in such small type and in an obscure position that it was clear they were trying to hide it. This sneaky attitude did take the "shine off" what would otherwise have been a very pleasant stay.

This is our 3rd visit to Highland Hotel. Previous visits were great this one not so much. Room was clean but cold on arrival, as was standard room no robes so enquired at reception since room was quite cold. Had to hire 2 robes and slippers for 2 for £15. Robes arrived soon after, but were rough and washed out not the fluffy "new" feeling would expect. Coldness was due to draughty window, as on ground floor our window was inches from parked cars so curtains were shut at all times. Small heater just didn't heat all of the room. I woke up a few times during the night shivering. Bedding was not anything special, quite basic. Lights above bed did not work. Could have done with having a fridge as no way to keep our drinks we brought, cold. Bathroom needs maintenance work, discoloured grout, marks and some mould side of shower screen. Silicone messy and missing at bits. Paint on ceiling above bath, missing in 2 patches. Carpet in room bit worn. Wilting lillies flower display in corridor. Expect more from 4 star. Spa was busy - with 2 couples (not together) in sauna for a very long period of time, 1 lady decided then would be a good time to talk rather loudly to her husband about a friend who had lost job and decorating plans for their house! My partner decided not to join me in the sauna as felt no space for 6 people. He decided too busy in general and left spa. Guests need to be more mindful of how long they are spending in sauna, steamroom, to allow others a fair turn and consider other guest don't need to hear about a strangers personal life when trying to relax in a confined space. At one point jacuzzi was filled with a family including primary school aged kids splashing around and another woman with a baby (aged about 9mths) who should NOT have been in there! When they left I sat patiently at the side waiting on the jets, and another primary school aged child jumped into the jacuzzi playing around in it (no one is even meant to enter it at this stage) her parents looked on from pool and just told her not to splash (me) When jets went on I went in and to my surprise the lady with baby came back in again! This is dangerous babies can easily overheat. I have 4 kids and know a jacuzzi is not a fun pool! Staff really need to monitor this more. Not sure if after this trip we will be back. Pros - good breakfast, staff professional, friendly and approachable, excellent location, cleaning staff do a great job!
