We made a booking a couple of weeks before travelling and the hotel kept us up to date with any Covid changes affecting the facilities at the hotel.
Our room was comfortable and give us a stunning view out over Saundersfoot beach and harbour. Both the breakfast and evening meals were excellent. I can thoroughly recommend the veggie sausage for breakfast and the Beef and ale pie from the evening menu. We were made to feel very welcome, all the staff waiting/bar and reception were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely go there again, very well priced and good value for money. I felt very safe as staff were continually cleaning surfaces both inside and out.

We visited the hotel during the covid crisis. With this in mind, I felt the stay would’ve been boring and dreary. However, the hotel and the grounds were so lovely and comfortable that I was very pleasantly surprised. There’s even an outdoor pool, which looked so inviting. Unfortunately it was closed due to coronavirus while we were there.
Our rooms were very nice and not what I would’ve expected from a 2 star AA hotel. We had a sea view room (highly recommended) and it was very spacious with ample wardrobe space. The en-suite bathroom was very clean with a powerful ‘Mira’ shower. Not the usual trickle of water I have seen in higher rated hotels. The bed is amazingly comfortable and I slept very well. Tea and coffee facilities were of a good standard (I’m particular about my tea) and we even had a proper sized kettle.
The staff at the hotel are lovely people and it had a very family run feel. They were very welcoming and helpful. They didn’t interfere or talk too much. 🤣
A couple of issues with the beer on tap, but this is totally understandable due to only recently reopening after the coronavirus lockdown. There was a lovely function room and restaurant overlooking the sea. I’m looking forward to returning when things are back to normal and have a meal.
It really feels like a 4 star hotel. I think the fact that there’s no air conditioning (room too hot for me, but I’m always too warm)or no telephone in the rooms Is maybe what’s letting them down. That said, with the British climate, and mobile phones it’s really unnecessary anyway.
This hotel is up there with some of the best I’ve stayed in. Can’t wait to return. It’s a must visit.

We just returned from a lovely trip to the Merlewood hotel,Saundersfoot. The hotel has just reopened after the covid pandemic, and although some of the amenities are not open i.e the restaurant and pool the owners are trying to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We had a lovely room number 27 its a nice size with a small sun room cum dressing area to relax and have a coffee in. We had the continental breakfast, yogurt, cereals ,toast, croissants, fruit and tea or coffee with orange juice, it was delicious which we ate out on the veranda or you could eat it in your room. The bar was open but with the welsh government guidelines in place you had to drink outside. We hope to return soon when everything returns to a more normal situation and enjoy this lovely hotel in all its glory.

We had a four day break. At the Merlewood Hotel. The Hotel is a 5 minute walk into the town of saundersfoot. The room was of good size and very nice and clean. Crisp white sheets. Big white fluffy towels. The breakfast is excellent. (There is a vegetarian one if you want one.)
The owner Pauline and her family are excellent hosts. And very helpful. Plenty of parking on site. The bus stop is accross the road going into Tenby and is only a ten minute ride. We will return.

We booked a few nights midweek stay and enjoyed despite lots of cobwebs (spotted laying in bed on our first night) in our room which was otherwise clean. The hotel is dated but comfortable and isn't too far from Saundersfoot. There is a walk up a steep hill back to the hotel but I'm asthmatic and unfit but managed it without too much difficulty.

Our room a small double was... Small. This wouldn't have been a problem but there was a huge double wardrobe in the room, and some pointless shelves. There had been an attempt to update the room by painting furniture grey but those sapele doors and chipped plastic fake wood windowsills were a reminder of my childhood home from the 70's, a proper blast from the past.

The bed was clean and comfortable, with a tiny TV with free view. Bathroom was big with a wonderful shower and lovely hot water. Free Internet was good and there was plenty of parking.

We had breakfast which was £10pp and it was nice. There was a selection of cereal, orange juice and apple juice to help yourself but, hot drinks and toast were ordered with a waitress along with the main breakfast which was hot and delicious. Breakfast staff were really friendly and smiley.

There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room but be careful as our milk seemed to be off

As we travel frequently I always leave an extension lead in the case, used it this time as there was no plug near a mirror.

All in all an enjoyable few days, you can tell the hotel is well loved and looked after, with a few little tweaks this hotel could be excellent.

We stayed 5 nights at the Merlewood Hotel. Our was on the first floor with a sea view - great to wake up and see the sea.
The room was quite big and had everything you needed.
The breakfast was amazing and you couldn’t fault the portion sizes.
We only ate in the hotel once the menu was simple and the food was very tasty.
All the staff at this hotel were very friendly and were keen to make sure your stay was a pleasant one - which it was.
The hotel could do with a little updating but for the price paid and that sea view it was value for money and we were pleased we chose it.

We went to the Merlewood Hotel as part of a Grand UK Holiday break. The room was spacious, and the food delicious. Staff were all extremely attentive and professional at all times. Covid 19 rules and regulations were adhered to, so we felt totally safe and well looked after.
A thoroughly enjoyable stay, and the only negative thing was that we only had a 5 day stay and would have liked to have stayed a lot longer!

I was quite enjoying my stay until my last night. There’s a bell at reception. “Anything you need, ring this bell” rang the bell several times. No response. All I wanted was to pop my takeaway in the microwave for a minute….. clearly too much to ask.

Secondly, the bloke upstairs clearly has a snoring issue and the walls must be made of paper, kept me up most of the night & myself and my partner still can’t sleep now.
Extremely dated hotel, surprised it has a 2 star status. I’ve had better stays in a tent…. Make sure you pack ear plugs IF your stupid enough to stay

Went for Motown /Northern soul weekend which is organised by hotel owner. It was the first time we stayed there and we had a fab weekend.
Starting at the reception with Russell, what a real helpful person and a gentleman, made us feel as though be had known us for years.
The owner Pauline is lovely and welcoming and does a marvellous job on organising these weekends, they are brilliant and cant wait to go back. Our room was very nice, clean and on the ground floor convenient for my wife which i asked for because
she has mobility issues. The hotel is about 5 to 7mins walk into Saundersfoot but steep on way back, there that's the one negative out of the way.It has a lovely view over Saundersfoot beach and a lovely small outside pool right outside the hotel bar and dance room.
Enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the morning but didnt have an evening meal as we had booked to go out with friends. As i said Pauline is so welcoming from day one that you feel you've been going there for years.
Such a brilliant experience, the best part about it as well if you are going to the music weekends and Pauline is fully booked her sister and brother in law Jan and Chris own the hotel next door and can accommodate you there.Thats a lovely experience as well as they are also lovely people.
Honestly once you've been there you feel part of the family.
Love to you Pauline and Russell and the boys behind the bar ,Bev and Rob❤❤

Spent four nights at this lovely hotel. The welcome was warm and friendly. The view from our room was of the bay. The breakfast was delicious and the portion sized was very generous. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the owner Pauline. Hopefully we will be back when things are back to normal.
