Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here for a long overdue mini-break in order to visit Whitby via the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Located a few minutes drive from the NYMR Station in Pickering, we enjoyed a very comfortable stay here, with excellent cooked breakfast. Would definitely stay here again if I was in the area.

When we first arrived we was slightly disappointed, seemed really dated … But honestly dont judge a book by its cover We really felt so welcomed and nothing was too much trouble… Bed was so comfortable and we slept so well, our room was at the front and didn’t hear any traffic noise whatsoever The biggest bonus for me was the fresh milk in a fridge in the hall that you could help yourself to to take up to your room at anytime for tea and coffee . Breakfast was 10+

What a lovely place to stay. Superb location and such a warm welcome. Pauline and Simon can’t do enough for you. Definitely recommend having poached eggs with your breakfast - the best we’ve ever had. Thoroughly recommend here. We will be staying again.

We actually stayed here in March 2016 as a family group. We were in Pickering to scatter the ashes of our parents on their anniversary in the churchyard where they had met in the church in the 1950s! This house was actually my mother's home as a teenage girl and, after explaining about our visit, the owners allowed us to scatter some of our parents ashes in the back garden. We wanted to book for March 2022 but the owners told me that, due to their age, they would not be opening for a full season so March was too early in the year. This year, we visited again to honour our parents on their anniversary and discovered that the Crossways sign has been removed and the house is up for sale.

I've stayed here a fair few times and can honestly say it's been a pleasure. The hotel is an old building and has lots of character. I love the finishing touches in the rooms to make it feel like home away from home. Paul and Pauline have always been great hosts and nothing is ever too much trouble. Will be returning very soon for another weekend stay!

We stayed in Crossway Hotel for 2 nights (Room 5). On arrival we were greeted with a friendly welcome from one of the owners and shown to our room. The room was spotlessly clean and the owners had added "special touches" e.g. sweets in a little dish, tea/coffee making facilities, bath robes, toiletries, chocolate biscuits etc. Our breakfast was delicious and cooked to perfection, and although busy, the owners, Pauline and Paul, took the time to speak with us (lovely couple). The Crossways Hotel is spotlessly clean, the beds are sooo comfortable, the food is amazing, the owners are professional, efficient and welcoming. I would recommend Crossways 100% to all. Thank you, Pauline and Paul for a wonderful weekend. We will definitely be back👍😁
