Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

OMG what an amazing place. Rooms were spotless with everything you need. We stayed in the Stag room and the views overlooking the brook and gardens were lovely and peaceful. Food was amazing, freshly cooked to order and piping hot, varied selection of dishes and definitely good value for money. All staff extremely friendly and very helpful but special thanks to Tim and Becky (owners) who went out of their way to make our weekend perfect and for suggesting things for us to see and do in the surrounding area. We have been home and hour and are already planning our next visit which will be very soon.

Just returned from a three night stay at Cayley Arms. Welcome was great with Becky and Tim very friendly and informative. Room was well appointed and had many unusual features. Food and drink excellent ( 3 breakfasts and two dinners) . Good choice, well prepared and presented. Bar is well stocked and weather allowed us to have a drink sitting out in a well manicured and maintained garden. All covid 19 rules observed and felt perfectly safe moving about premises. Ideal location for touring North Yorks. Felt as though we were one of the family during our stay. Would definitely like to be able to return.

We've had a fantastic Bank Holiday visit to Pickering with the sun shining. Tim and Becky made our stay at the Cayley Arms a special one, with a warm welcome and friendly hosting throughout, along with great directions, help to sort taxis and advice on a curry house. Our room, the Grouse, was smart and cosy, with a comfy bed and a cracking double shower. The setting of the pub is lovely, with a stream running through that you can hear in bed with the window open at night, very relaxing. There are horses grazing in the field by the pub, and the outdoor seating catches the sun, with heaters outdoors for those sitting out after sundown. It's a scenic 7 min drive into Pickering, with ample parking at the B&B. We ate at the B&B one night and while the vegetarian options aren't extensive, we had a tasty meal, and Tim produced some veggie sausages for our Full English in the morning... we certainly didn't go hungry! They're a smashing couple and we'll recommend the B&B to those visiting the area.

We went for a meal, 4 adults, 2 children and a toddler. The surroundings were beautiful as was the decor. The food was absolutely delicious but the staff were miserable and didn’t appear to like children being there. There was no child menu, which we were told in advance, but were told that children were welcome and food could be adjusted for them. Within 5 minutes of us arriving, we felt totally unwelcome and just wanted our food so we could leave. The beer garden was beautiful for adults but had nothing to keep children entertained. My granddaughter who is 5yrs old and disabled, sat near another table to look at some ornaments for a few minutes and we were asked to move as they now needed to sanitize that table again. My grandchildren are 6yrs, 5yrs and 1yr and I would say if you have young children or anyone in your party who has learning difficulties - DO NOT GO THERE. It’s such a shame because the restaurant and food were lovely.

Been here a couple of times for sunday lunch - which can I say is fantastic so decided to have tea here.

You have to pre book a table due to covid but it is well worth it.

Becky & Tim have got all precautions in place & we felt very safe. Face masks to be worn until seated at table.

The food my husband & I had was absolutely delicious. I had poached pear & blue cheese starter followed by whole plaice & my husband had sesame chicken starter followed by belly pork.

The food was beautifully presented & cooked to perfection. My husband said it was one of the best belly pork dishes he had ever had. Compliments to the chef for that.

The pub is tastefully decorated with 2 lovely light burners - very toasty on a wet wednesday evening.

Service very relaxed and all staff very friendly.
Had a lovely evening meal.
Please visit if visiting area or if your local please support this superb pub.

We most certainly would recommend to all our family & friends, as well as return here again.

My partner and I spent two nights here and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. From the moment we arrived we were met with warm greetings and smiles from both Becky and Tim. We were made aware of the changes because of Covid during the check in process. Checking in was so easy. We hadn’t booked a meal that evening in the pub but was asked if we wanted to book one as they stop serving food at a specific time and didn’t want us to be disappointed if not aware. The room was lovely, just what was needed, comfy bed and a hot shower and so quiet on an evening. We had great WiFi access too, I even managed to have a conference call on Zoom without losing any signal!
Breakfast was lovely, freshly baked bread for toast and a large full English breakfast cooked to order.
A huge thank you to Becky, Tim and Aimee who made us feel welcome throughout our stay! Would highly recommend, I wouldn’t hesitate to book again, in fact I might even look at dates now!

It was our Golden Wedding Anniversary in June but due to lockdown we were unable to dine out. Our friends told us they would treat us to Sunday Lunch when we would like to come here so on Sunday we celebrated altogether. The meal was absolutely gorgeous with three of us having roast beef and one the roast pork. We all had different desserts and all again thoroughly enjoyed them. Lovely stylish restaurant with good COVID-19 rules in place. Efficient staff. Thoroughly recommend.

Everything about the last few days was terrific, from the owners Becky and Tim, to the rooms, the food, attention to detail and just how welcome we were made to feel in what is essentially their home. The building belies it’s ancient history with the modern, but totally tasteful interior decor which is sympathetic to both modern requirements and original features. Under the current Covid-19 situation Becky, Tim, Aimee and the team provide a safe, secure and very welcoming envirnonment and we are sure they will for years to come. We will definitely be returning soon.

Four of us thoroughly enjoyed Sunday lunch here but be warned - the roast beef, pork and chicken all come with a HUGE Yorkshire pudding! Best of all, we were given plenty of vegetables including a delicious cauliflower cheese to accompany our meals. And the food and plates were hot. Can't stand places that are mean with the veg or serve lukewarm food on cold plates - this is not one of them. Only one of us had room for a pudding and he reported the apple charlotte was perfect. Wish I'd had room for the rice pudding. Excellent value too at £98.95 including 3 x 2 courses at £22 each and 1 x 3 courses at £27 plus 2 pints and a soft drink. We will return. Oh - the pub is not in Pickering but in Allerston, a few miles from Pickering on the Scarborough side.

We have just spent X2 night's at the Cayley arm's and it was a fantastic trip away.
The hotel was amazing, the room's we're great,we had the stag room, but their all on the same standard,so they would all be great to stay in .
The host's Tim and Becky were so friendly and helpful with everything,a lot of time has gone into the little touches for your accommodation and they really make the stay.
Breakfast was super everyday and the evening meals were amazing,a great chef worked his magic.
Thank you to the owner's and staff there ,we would definitely recommend and we will be booking again in the not so distant future.
Andy and Vanessa.

How long has the pub been closed when was it last open

I've recently stayed at The Vale of Pickering campsite and was asking the lady about this pub and she said it only opens Fri, Sat & Sunday's so the beer is stale, it looks closed from the outside and it is up for sale
