Disappointing Stay: Proceed with Caution. Our stay at this cabin in Crompton, North Yorkshire, left much to be desired. While we hoped for a hidden gem, the reality fell short of even basic expectations. The tagline 'Tired, dirty, 2 star at best…' sadly proved to be an accurate depiction of our experience. From the outset, it was evident that the cabin was in need of attention. The tired appearance and lack of cleanliness detracted from any potential charm it may have had. While the rustic ambiance initially seemed appealing, it quickly became overshadowed by the neglect evident throughout the property. (Cobwebs in every room, shower either unbearably hot or freezing cold, hot tub, just a large warm bath.. jets not working and dirty. Just an overall feeling of ickyness.. Adding to our disappointment was the dining experience. The food in the restaurant was below par on every level, failing to satisfy even the most basic culinary expectations, this didn’t surprise us. Additionally, the prices in the on-site shop were exorbitant, with items such as bread priced at a staggering £2.60 for a half loaf. This pricing disparity seemed particularly tone-deaf in light of the current cost of living crisis. In conclusion, while this cabin may offer a rustic retreat, it falls short in numerous aspects. For those considering a stay, it's essential to manage expectations and proceed with caution. With improvements in cleanliness, dining quality, and pricing, this location could potentially redeem itself. However, until then, it's best to explore other accommodation options in the area."

Our first Forest Holiday at Cropton and didn't leave much to be desired unfortunately. On arrival was greeted by friendly reception staff and given our lodge number. On arrival at the lodge we walked in and the cabin what was to be expected, although no log burner starter pack left and no time left on the hot tub as to what time we could start using this was quickly resolved by a call to reception. Over the course of the stay we noticed the cabin was covered in black dog hairs (on the floors, sofa and beds!) in our "pet free" cabin booked specifically as I suffer from asthma. The more we looked the more black hairs we found I understand the staff cannot guarantee guests won't sneak pets in but the cabin had not been cleaned throughly at all. The staff offered a deep clean. The area the cabins are in is beautiful and it was a much needed relaxing break but unfortunately this really put us off and on return have been offered a small amount refunding for the price you pay.

Just back home after a 4 night stay at Cropton we really love it here it’s small and peaceful and even though was March fell really lucky with the weather which was an added bonus First time in a silver birch lodge normally go for the golden oak but never use the BBQ so saved on cost and was no difference in comfort Kitchen / Lounge well equipped lovely big open plan with forest view and decking and hot tub Personally I would plump for the golden oak purely because at Keldy they have an upstairs bedroom and en-suite so it’s much quieter if your children like to make noise on phones you Will hear them through the walls if like at cropton your all on the same level ! its a little thing but after all everyone’s on holiday ! Hotub was used everyday by us its a great fun addition and best at night when its super dark and peaceful and everyone ( other lodges ) respects each others noise levels which makes for a better experience Very hard to pick flaws as have been for 3 years now we love the peace and quiet and there’s plenty to do , however the decking needs a spruce up cleaning and a preservative applying as the inside is so lovely the outside needs to be the same in our opinion. TV screen grubby needs a good polish! And under the sofas which as a note are Really low! Highlights - zip wire and Axe throwing AJ is a great instructor and very friendly All the staff on site are lovely helpful and friendly All in all love it Will be back !!!

We Had a brilliant short break , cabins lovely , facilities great , staff very friendly , nothing was too much trouble for them , we had a couple of minor issues with the T.V. and the boiler , both unforseen things that couldn't be helped , both issues were dealt with quickly and we were even compensated for our inconvenience although I tried to reassure we hadn't been inconvenienced, the bed was the comfiest I had ever slept in, would definitely recommend Forest Holidays to friends and will be booking with them again. We did nothing but enjoy the seclusion and the wildlife and came home fully refreshed and relaxed , just wished we could have stayed longer

Had a wonderful stay at Cropton Forest. This was our third Forest Holidays location and loved it. Hot tub was perfect and enjoyed watching an array of wildlife- including Greater Spotted Woodpecker, various finches and Pheasant from the tub with a cup of tea or a Prosecco. We stayed in cabin 14 which had everything we needed. Blind in main bedroom needed a repair on arrival as couldn’t open blinds but didn’t cause us any problem. Good location to explore the forest and had a drive to Whitby, the abbey and Robin Hoods Bay- all beautiful and well worth visiting. Looking forward to our next Forest Holidays trip.

We love Forest Holidays and the seclusion that comes with a stay there. The cabins are lovely, warm and well looked after. Staff are great at keeping the hot tubs safe and looking after you. The up-selling for things like the Premium Wi-Fi is a bit frustrating as this is often offered at a discount when you arrive which means we paid more by planning ahead.

My fiancee and I, My in-laws and two dogs - This was our 7th Forest Holiday, over 7 sites - Cropton is arguably our favourite. We loved it that much we rebooked it for our June 2024 holiday! Again the relaxing feel, cleanliness , fantastic onsite facilities /retreat and beautiful surroundings that Forest Holidays pride themselves on were all consistently brilliant! The Forest retreat is by far the best in terms of stock, size and comfort of the bar area. Also with the added bonus of a quiz - which we won!!! (We were the only team to get full marks on the forest holiday site location map!) To comment on other reviews and comments regarding poor cleanliness and tired cabins , our experience at Cropton was the complete opposite. Yes it's and older site but, the site and cabins in our experience was al well maintained and cleaned to the high standard you expect. Our booking was for Cabin 32 & 33 - both in fantastic locations, looking directly out to the forest. No walking paths near by and neither overlooked. Brilliant location to see the stars at night too if you're lucky to get a clear night like us! The New Inn - most definitely recommend a trip to the local pub, the brewery tour was fantastic and the food was out of this world. The best pie i've ever eaten!! We're looking forward to visiting you again, see you in June!

4th visit to Cropton and best yet! Stayed in our usual lodge of 34, and was great to see it had been refurbished since our last visit. New sofas, curtains, bedding and had been painted throughout. Lodge was extremely clean throughout, liked the new touch of a knock on your lodge by a member of staff to check everything was ok and if you needed any help with anything. Weather was really mild, so hot tub was actually too warm! We would leave it open for half an hour before getting in. Lights on hot tub broken, but a really minor fault jets worked fine. Minor thing they no longer leave free toiletries so bring your own. Had a great stay have rebooked for next year!

Another wonderful stay at Cropton! We chose to stay in the Silver Birch compact which wasn’t really compact at all. The only real difference was that the main bedroom doesn’t have an en-suite. This looks like a newer cabin and we was really impressed. The decking space was huge! We did however feel the cold and had the staff out a few times to check the underfloor heating. Maybe it was just the time of year I’m not sure but definitely felt a lot colder than usual. We opted to take our own tree which was £10.99 from home bargains. You can pay for one in your cabin but at nearly £80 it’s a bit steep. The retreat was lovely and cost as usual. We used the local pub for lunch one day and went into Pickering for an Indian takeout…delicious! Lots of lovely walks, especially in the snow. Booked again for next year.

Please don’t listen to the bad reviews! We honestly had such a wonderful break away here. We stayed Monday - Friday (me, my partner and 3 year old.) We didn’t have high expectations after reading the reviews, but I’m glad they were wrong! On arrival, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The retreat was welcoming and clean. They gave us our key and check in details, we stayed in cabin #3. Stepping inside the cabin, we were pleasantly surprised (after reading the bad reviews, months before). It was modern, clean and spacious. A member of staff checked in with us on the night, to see how we were getting on. We had an overall really good, relaxing time. The hot tub was really nice after a long walk in the forest, you could watch all the birds and squirrels from the hot tub too which was really relaxing. The hot tub also had daily checks, around 8:30 each morning We didn’t do any of the activities, or buy any food/drinks so I can’t comment on that. There is a Lidl about 15 minutes drive away, which was a good! The cabin had everything we needed, so I wish I didn’t bring my whole kitchen/house! It has plenty of plates, bowls, mugs, cutlery. Definitely bring some toilet if you’re staying longer than 2 days as you only get 1 roll in each toilet. The fridge was big enough for us 3, and we had meals every night (mon-Thursday night). The freezer is very small but that didn’t concern us, we’re just glad the fridge was big enough. The only thing I could say, is the showers aren’t the best. I don’t know if the shower heads need replacing, but really not good showers! Apart from the showers, I’ve got nothing bad to say at all. Thank you forest holidays! We’re definitely booking again
