Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Husband and I stayed for 1 night, beautiful surroundings and setting, very peaceful and calm, our room was lovely and overlooked the garden. Carol and Elliott couldn't do enough for us, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. If we visit the area again we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

What an amazing weekend we had at Lowther House. Carol, Elliott (and Nutty!) couldn’t do enough for us. The room was comfortable. I slept better than I have done in weeks. Breakfast was spot on, as was afternoon tea. It honestly felt like we were staying at a friends house. We will most definitely be back and we can’t wait. Thank you Carol & Elliot, so much.

Wonderful stay! What super hosts Carol and her son Elliot are. Lowther house really is a little gem. The tea garden is so inviting and peaceful. We stayed here for two nights and felt most welcome. Our room overlooked the garden and forest beyond, a delight to wake up to. Nothing is too much trouble for the hosts. They are new to Lowther house and are really making a great go of it. Nutty the family dog is a real character and super friendly - as a dog lover she really added to our stay. Around twenty minute walk to the marketplace and a great location to get into Whitby, Scarborough etc. We wish you all the best for the future and we will most definitely return. Thank you both so much for a wonderful break.

Stopped at lowther house B&B 4th and 5th April. Was a bit of a last minute booking. Its a lovely place 20 minute walk into pickering , slightly less to the Steam Railway , which we did on the 5th and took the train all the way to whitby, great day out (apart from the rain). Our hosts Carol and her son Elliott were great, couldn't do enough for us, they have only been there eight weeks, so are still settling in and learning the business. The room was compact but more than adequate and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was very nice good to have a proper runny fried egg (well done elliot) . After we returned from our day out on the train Carol gave us a selection of cakes to have with a warm cuppa , which was a nice touch as it was the wifes birthday Hopefully will return one day and get to sample tea in the lovely garden

Had an overnight stay bought us as Christmas gift so stayed on a Friday night. I only give a honest review of what the stay was like. Unfortunately the house was freezing cold and the owner said she didn't know how the heating worked so had to bring us a portable electric radiator into our room which heated up well. No radiators were on in all the communal areas hall, stairs etc but they did light up a real fire in breakfast room. The breakfast was fine. Bed was comfy, asked for a spoon for our room and was given 2 dirty ones. We are not pet owners and perhaps we were sensitive to the dog smell. Much more attention to detail must be given if the new owners wish to succeed. The owner was kind enough to give us a lift when we had a downpour which was kind of her.

Stayed here for two nights with my mother in November, what a great find. Lovely room, very peaceful location. We chose to eat there on the evenings and both meals were delicious - John is a great cook! Breakfasts were also lovely - great selection of fresh fruit and continental option had lots of choice. We will be back

Lovely place, great breakfast, nice rooms, people are lovely. 15 minute walk into Pickering which was fine along a footpath. The rooms were warm with ensuite and were nicely finished. Breakfast choices were great and couldn't have wanted a better place to stay
